I’m dealing with pretty much the same mess as goldenscout9. Broke my collarbone and ended up with that "figure eight" brace on my shoulders—at least that's what the doctor called it. I've gotta wear this thing until my follow-up appointment this Wednesday. So, quick question for anyone who’s been through this hell: how on earth did you actually sleep? It feels like the brace loses its grip whenever I lie down; it just stops holding my shoulders in place, and then the pain hits. Woke up this morning hurting like crazy, though it does settle down a bit when I'm sitting up or standing. I barely managed about 40 minutes of sleep before tossing and turning all night from around 11 until just now.

I broke my collarbone five days ago—fractured right down the middle—and they slapped me in an 8-wrap. To make matters worse, the second I got home, everything felt like it popped out of place again. Two days later, I had to head back to the hospital (the pain was absolutely unbearable while they were resetting it), and they reapplied the 8-wrap. Fast forward to today—day five—and things have gone sideways again. It looks like I'm headed for surgery at this point. I haven't been able to sleep at all; lying down feels impossible, like my spine is just falling apart, not to mention anything else... so, yeah, surgery is probably on the horizon. :// 😠

Total disaster. :/

So, I finally got my brace off about a month ago after rocking it for a month and a half. I went in for three different checkups, but every single time they just tightened the damn thing. At the last appointment—which was like a month after the break—they took some X-rays. Everything looked like it was healing perfectly fine, but they still insisted on leaving the brace on "just in case" we could get even better results. I was supposed to head back in for one more follow-up in two weeks, but life happened. First, I was buried under college finals, and then, because my luck is just stellar, I came down with a massive sinus infection. It spiraled so hard I actually had to go get my lungs scanned. While I was at the clinic getting all that sorted, I just... slipped out of the brace myself. I slid it right back onto my shoulders, finished up with the doctor, headed home, took the thing off, and tossed it straight in the trash. Done with it. 😁
Look, maybe it’s not exactly responsible, but if I can just move it back and forth myself, what’s even the point of having it? Anyway, the bone seems fine now. At least it isn't crooked anymore—it used to be all twisted, like one side was vertical and the other was horizontal if you looked down at it from above. My range of motion is finally coming back. I still get this nagging ache when I bend my arm inward toward my body, or if I sleep on that side too long during the night, or if I suddenly jerk my arm after holding it in one position for a while. But the pain is fading, so I’m not losing any sleep over it. I’ve actually been carrying some heavier stuff lately, but I always lean on my left side just enough to give this side a little extra support while it strengthens up.

I broke my collarbone in a car accident about a month ago. They finally took the hardware out after four weeks, but now I’m dealing with this nagging ache in my shoulder right where the bone was. My doctor says it’s just part of the process, but I can't help feeling uneasy about it. I have one specific concern: is it actually possible for a false joint—a pseudoarthrosis—to form at the fracture site? That's the one thing really messing with my head right now. If anyone has experience with this or knows the deal, I'd really appreciate an answer!

Hey there!
So, I’ve been dealing with this grade two collarbone issue lately.
Since I play Rugby, I was really wondering if I can just power through my training, or am I looking at a surgery situation—is it actually going to cause more trouble down the road if I don't get it fixed?

What's the problem?

I’ve been through an eight-hour procedure myself, so I know the drill. Honestly, being stuck in a hospital bed is best handled if you ditch the pillow entirely—just lie flat and keep your hands behind your head. Not tucked under you, mind you, but actually behind your head. It feels weird at first, but it helps. And look, it’s perfectly normal for the tension to give way; it shouldn't be clamped down too tight. I dealt with my own recovery for about two weeks, and once that period passed, everything was smooth sailing.

I had surgery on my clavicle back on March 3rd, 2017, and even now, as of March 10th, I can feel that metal plate in my collarbone quite clearly. My range of motion is pretty much shot; I can't move my arm in most directions, except for my forearm and fingers.
Does that hardware eventually settle down and become less noticeable over time, or is this just how it is? Because honestly... the pain is driving me absolutely insane.

Hey there

So, I recently went through the whole ordeal of breaking my collarbone. I'm currently in recovery mode after having surgery to get everything fixed in place with some hardware, and I've got a few things on my mind:

Is it totally normal for my Desault bandage to start shifting around on my arm after just ten days?

Also, is it weird that I can feel a bit of a clicking or shifting sensation in the bone when I move certain ways? I guess maybe it's just part of the process, but I wasn't sure.

Since my surgeon didn't mention anything about physical therapy, should I be looking into getting started with that on my own? Maybe I'm overthinking it.

Thanks!

It’s honestly the exact same thing for me...
Every single time I lie down, it feels like those broken bones are just shifting around inside me, and then when I try to get up, it’s like they all slide forward again—it is such an unsettling feeling. It really makes me think they're constantly moving around in there, and I can't help but wonder how on earth they’re supposed to heal properly if they won't stay put, you know? One minute they seem okay, and the next, they're totally out of alignment. I'm feeling pretty lost with the whole situation; they put this metal plate in me while I was at the hospital, but now I'm just sitting here wondering how the bone is ever going to knit back together if everything keeps shifting like this...
