I really need some help here!!! I’m 20 years old and my cycle is usually super regular. My last period started on July 21st, and now it’s already back—it just started again on August 6th. Normally, my cycle runs about 33 days (give or take two), and it’s always been pretty predictable. The only times things ever shift is if I get really stressed out or if I start panicking about the possibility of being pregnant—since I don't take any birth control. But this? This is more than two weeks early!!!!!!

What should I even do?? Does anyone know why this happens?? My boyfriend is insisting that I should probably go see a doctor (though, honestly, I’d rather skip it since my usual physician isn't available and I'd have to see some random guy instead)

Please, if anyone can give me some insight, I would appreciate it because I am genuinely freaking out..... thanks

But I've never dealt with anything like that myself—so I'm really skeptical that's what's going on here!!!

Everything happens for the first time, and it is entirely possible that this is merely a heavy period, or perhaps just a sudden physiological shift in your cycle.
Why don't you just reach out to your doctor?
Regardless, they won't be able to perform a proper examination while you are on your period anyway.

I’ve actually had a couple of those 1-2k situations happen before... even though I’m only 16

Are you absolutely sure it's just your period? My mom actually had some serious kidney issues once and she mistakenly thought her cycle had just started early...

Man, the exact same thing happened to me about six months back. My OB-GYN was basically like, "Look, it could just be stress or something similar, but honestly, it’s not even that unusual." He told me there was no reason to freak out... 🙂

Oh, honey, don't go jumping to conclusions and panicking just yet. 😉

It’s most likely just stress doing its thing. I remember one time when life got particularly chaotic, my own cycle decided to show up three whole weeks early just because of the pressure.
So, think about it—have there been any big shifts in your routine lately? Are you feeling overheated, maybe getting worked up over the small stuff, or is there some drama going on in your love life? 😉

But look, obviously, you should go see a doctor and get checked out just to be safe.

I’m honestly feeling pretty anxious right now because I had surgery before I even turned 18. I had these massive dermoid cysts on both ovaries—they were huge—and now I’m terrified they might have come back, God forbid! Usually, I’m supposed to go in for checkups every six months, but I actually skipped my most recent appointment because I just assumed everything was fine.

@malehico_girl @ It’s totally understandable that you're feeling this way—you're still young, and honestly, Mani went through the exact same thing at your age.

@hawk @ I don't know if I'd call it a "normal" period, though... I only got a tiny bit of spotting and nothing else. It didn't even hurt this time, which is weird, because usually, I feel like I'm dying from body aches every single month. My cycle typically lasts at least seven days, but this one seems to be wrapping up already.

And how exactly would you suggest we assist you?
First and foremost, please do not panic; simply make an appointment with your doctor at the earliest possible opportunity.
And I must reiterate, there is absolutely no need to panic.
Oh, and in case I haven't made this sufficiently clear—do, truly, stop panicking.

Honestly, I don't think it's such a big deal. Sometimes things just happen when you're stressed out or if you've been messing with your routine... there are a hundred different reasons why it happens
If you're really that worked up about it, just go see a therapist

It’s definitely possible it’s just ovulation. Honestly, that only happened to me once in my life. It lasted about two days and then totally cleared up. It wasn't even bright red blood, just this dull, brownish spotting, and I had some mild cramping.
Or maybe you didn't quite finish clearing everything out during your period, so your uterus is still doing its thing...
Look, if it doesn't clear up within two days, go see a gynecologist just to be safe.
You aren't pregnant👍

Are you experiencing any pain?

Only a doctor can explain this after an exam, especially since your cycles are typically regular.

I used to deal with things like this all the time before I started taking birth control. Now that I've stopped, I can never seem to predict when it's coming.

See a doctor.🙂

Could it be that you weren't on vacation? Or maybe you changed locations? No joke, this happened to me while I was in Turkey right in the middle of my cycle. I planned a trip right when it hit, so I didn't have any issues. But then, on the 4th or 5th day, it actually started! I went into a store looking for pads in the self-service aisle, but they were nowhere to be found (I was so certain it wasn't happening that I hadn't even packed any pads, God forbid). Eventually, I found them tucked away in some corner behind an advertisement. Later, I realized they were probably just embarrassed by those things, so they hid them out of sight.

😁 I have always found myself wondering how they manage to sell items like that in environments such as this.

I know plenty of women who’ve dealt with this when they were switching up their birth control... For some, it was two weeks late, while others actually got it early....

Totally! Like, when I was down at the beach in Florida, my cycle would be all over the place—sometimes early, sometimes a week or two late...

Look, you really ought to see an OB-GYN. Honestly, you might be better off seeing a male doctor; they tend to be much gentler. In just the last month, I've dealt with about ten different doctors—mostly men—and I've definitely become convinced they handle things better.
I don't want to scare you, but bleeding this far outside your normal pattern isn't something to ignore. Go see a professional and get an ultrasound so you can rule out cysts or whatever else might be going on.
