Here’s the situation...
A close friend of mine—we've known each other since we were twenty—was in a horrific car accident about a year ago on the way back from Manhattan. This guy she considered a "friend" was driving her home after a night out, with four other people in the car besides them. He refused to take a turn when she asked him to, slammed straight into some guardrails, and she was thrown from the vehicle. She ended up with life-altering injuries to her heart, lungs, and brain. Paramedics rushed her to the Mayo Clinic, where they performed surgeries on those vital organs, but somehow the rest of her body—her arms and legs—was basically overlooked. Now she’s struggling immensely because she’s paralyzed. She was in a coma for two months until autumn, then moved to Pennsylvania for rehab. She’s made some progress there; she can talk again and has very limited movement in her right arm and leg. But now, she’s been waiting months for hip surgery just so she can attempt to walk, and she's buried at the bottom of the waiting list. To make matters worse, the guy who caused the crash had a blood alcohol content of 0.25, and he didn't face any consequences...
So, I'm wondering what I can actually do to speed up this surgery and get her into rehab sooner? Her family is strapped for cash, and getting this operation would be the key to her being able to walk and starting her recovery.
p.s. I have no idea how much a surgery like this costs...
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. 😁
