Best places to exchange EUR to USD?

Quick question: where’s the best spot to swap my USD for cash if I'm hanging out in NYC? Anyone know a decent exchange, a bank, or even just some random shop or cafe that won't rip me off?

I tried swapping some cash for $2.50 a few days ago, and someone told me there's this one bakery that gives you as much as $2.50. Only problem is, they only do small swaps up to 50 bucks a day. What a joke, right?

It depends. We're talking anywhere from $5,000 to $20,000.

Banks will actually give you a much better exchange rate for larger transfers compared to what you'd get at a local currency exchange kiosk or just swapping a quick hundred bucks at a branch. If you walk into a Chase or Bank of America and negotiate—basically letting them know you're moving a significant amount—you can usually score a better deal. I'm fairly certain they'll budge once you hit the $50,000 mark. It doesn't hurt to ask.

If you’re looking to swap larger sums—say, north of $3,000 or $5,000—any private currency exchange in NYC will pretty much give you a better deal if you just ask for a negotiated rate.
Last year, I was swapping USD for Euros and needed about $20,000. The spread between the buy and sell rates ended up being roughly 5-$2.25/100 USD
