I actually deal with the exact opposite issue—dry mouth. I have to rely on artificial saliva just to get by. My doctor told me that whenever I feel that parched sensation kicking in, I should grab something sour to kickstart my system. Usually, I’ll just suck on a sugar-free sour candy or squeeze a bit of fresh lemon juice into my water to trigger some saliva production.

😁We really are a bunch of total weirdos, aren't we? :-)
In any case, for me, it feels less like a natural reaction to eating fermented foods or anything of the sort, and more like a localized nervous tic—almost like a "mechanical glitch" triggered by things like stress.
I could honestly sit here all day just stretching my face and twitching because it provides such a genuine sense of relief. I’m planning on seeing a doctor eventually, but I’m currently just waiting to see if there’s a positive shift on its own first. It’s actually quite funny to imagine myself sitting there in an exam room, trying to mimic these facial grimaces and twitches for a physician. :-)
So, I suspect I might be a bit of a rare bird in this regard. To be honest, I don't think I've ever actually discussed this with anyone else... I should probably start filming it.
Then again, who knows? Maybe I'm just some medical anomaly 😁 that would make for an excellent case study for medical students.

I’ve got some mild swelling and pain in my right parotid gland, so I went in for an ultrasound. I have the results, but since I can't see my doctor until Tuesday, I was wondering if anyone here could help me make sense of this:

Salivary gland ultrasound: The right parotid gland shows diffuse low echogenicity with several intraparenchymal lymph nodes measuring up to 15.5mm. These show reactive echomorphology and vascularization. No cystic or solid lesions were found in the parotid region.
Other salivary glands—left parotid, submandibular, and sublingual—show no significant echomorphological changes.

The findings suggest inflammatory changes in the right parotid area.

I really need some advice. Two weeks ago, I had a blocked salivary gland along with some stones and a high fever. Antibiotics helped for a bit, but now the same thing is happening again, just on the other side of my neck. Even though I saw my doctor today, they didn't prescribe anything new, and my fever didn't even kick in until this evening. I’m feeling pretty rough and honestly don't know what to do next.

I don't know, my lymph nodes haven't actually swollen up, but they definitely get inflamed sometimes. Where are yours acting up? For me, it usually flares up right under my ear near the jawline, but it just clears itself up in two or three days.

Thanks for the reply, but I’m still running a fever, and my throat and neck are killing me—even my ear hurts. I'm on antibiotics right now, but I can't help worrying that this might be something more serious. BEST

Are you absolutely sure it isn't a swollen lymph node this time? Like, do you have any swelling anywhere else? Where exactly?

Look, just go see your doctor and tell them you've run a fever.

I just got back from the doctor, and they said my gallbladder is blocked with stones. I've already finished a second round of antibiotics, but this time the pain is worse and I'm having trouble swallowing.

So, can't I just pull it out? 🤷

The real issue is that I can't tell how many of them are stuck in my tonsils versus under my tongue, and everything is so painfully inflamed that even swallowing water feels like a nightmare—I’m seeing stars every single time.

Does anyone have advice on how to get these little stones out? Also, is it normal to be running a fever? Thanks.

Man. 🙂 I feel for you. I know exactly how it feels when inflammation kicks in—that specific kind of pain. It’s hard to even wrap my head around what you're going through right now. Wish I had some actual advice to offer. 🙂

And by the way, if there's inflammation going on, running a fever isn't unusual. That's just the body doing its thing, fighting off viruses and bacteria. 🙂

Hey everyone, if there's a doctor here, I could really use some advice—or maybe someone else has dealt with this before. How long does it usually take for an antibiotic to actually kick in? I'm already on my third dose of ???

So, here’s the situation. Like the title says, I’ve got damage to my parotid gland, right there in the cheek area. I had to get stitches in my face, and they were cutting into the wound to insert a drain. Now, every single time I try to eat or drink anything, saliva just leaks out of the incision. And I mean, it leaks a lot. If anyone else has dealt with this kind of mess, I’m curious—how long does the healing process actually take? My doctors are being pretty vague about it.🙂

Hey! I was wondering, is a salivary gland infection contagious?

Can someone help me make sense of these results?
I’m open to any advice or info you guys might have.

The report shows a well-differentiated parotid mass (differential diagnosis includes adenoid cystic carcinoma and pleomorphic adenoma).
Surgical intervention is recommended.

What exactly are
adenoid cystic carcinoma and pleomorphic adenoma?

Is this curable?
How long does the surgery take, what are the side effects, and how long is the recovery process?

Had my surgery three weeks ago—it was a benign tumor. Currently on vacation and feeling pretty good. Huge thanks to the doctor...

Hey, I really need some advice here. I’ve been dealing with this nasty cold for a few days now—runny nose, coughing, losing my voice... but no fever.
My temp hasn't even gone above 97 degrees. At the exact same time, though, I noticed a swollen sublingual gland on my left side, and it’s making eating a bit uncomfortable.
Any idea what might be going on with this?
Thanks.

Had a tooth pulled ten days ago. Wound got inflamed, so they did some curettage to pack it with blood. Then the real pain started. Tried ice packs, didn't work, so I popped some ketone. That same night, I felt this lump—about the size of a small walnut—moving around under my fingers. It's leaking a little, too. Doesn't even hurt much. Asked my dentist about it; he told me not to sweat it, said it's probably just a swollen salivary gland.
Because my mouth was so dry, I started getting antibiotics directly in the wound and taking Klimicin orally last Wednesday. The wound is finally settling down, the intense pain is fading, but that damn lump is still right there.🙂
I can swallow fine, no pain when opening my mouth or eating. Tried feeling for it from the inside, but it’s deep down in the jaw. Under the extraction site, or maybe just opposite it.
Any reason to worry? Dentist says no. He wants to let the wound heal first, then deal with the lump if it's still there.
