Is being a fair moderator actually a massive headache, and what does the job even entail? Honestly, if it isn’t too much trouble and doesn't require some crazy amount of experience or constant attention, I was kind of thinking about giving it a shot by running a smaller thread for a bit, just to see how things work... please, if possible

Basically, you have to make sure nobody breaks the rules of that specific subforum—things like insults, ads, spamming, and all that junk. You hand out bans when necessary, issue warnings, delete posts, merge threads, help people out when you can, etc.
Depending on the section, it might be pretty chill, but some subforums are absolute nightmares to moderate and incredibly stressful. Honestly, quite a few moderators have quit because of it.
If you check the banned users section, you can see who people complain about most and which subforums they're from. Those are the good moderators—the ones actually keeping things under control.😁
As for "temporary" moderating, I don't think that's going to happen...👍 🙂

The last two sub-forums in General don't even have a moderator... seriously, is it really that much to ask to let someone step up and learn the ropes on these smaller sections? It wouldn't bother anyone, and nobody would end up hating them either, since if we managed to get by without one until now, a moderator won't exactly be busy handing out bans all day anyway.

The archives don't need a moderator, if that's what you're getting at.
And the classifieds section isn't some high-stakes zone either, so there's no need for oversight there, either.
But look, if you actually want to be a moderator, you have to meet certain criteria. If I told you right now that having only 200 posts disqualifies you, you’d probably just start spamming to rack up numbers—but honestly, you'd more likely just end up getting banned.
Another thing: someone actually has to nominate you. That means you have to be liked, which implies you're actually decent, smart, don't post nonsense, aren't boring, help people out, or show some actual value in something.
We've seen plenty of these requests and questions before, but I don't think anyone ever becomes a moderator "just because."
And one more thing: there have already been complaints about you, and from multiple people at that, so you're better off dropping this whole suggestion. The sooner, the better.

First off, this forum isn't some training ground. Second, this whole site is a business—part of a larger company with an owner. That owner picks the admins and moderators, who basically act as "employees"—even if they aren't getting a paycheck—to handle specific tasks. It’s actual work, not just a way to kill time when you're bored. It's a responsibility, not a hobby.

So, if you actually want to be considered for a moderator role—whenever the owners decide they need one, rather than just whenever someone feels like it—you'd need to be around for more than a month, maybe hit a few hundred posts, and actually contribute something useful to the discussions. You also need to follow the rules, show some basic manners, and demonstrate a sense of fairness, integrity, and common sense.

That's just the baseline to even get noticed. It doesn't guarantee anything, obviously, since there are plenty of other people meeting those standards. Usually, when a spot opens up, the current mods suggest candidates, and then the owner makes the final call.

Hopefully, that clears things up.

PS. There's a shortcut, though: just wire $1,000 directly to the company account or the owner. 😁
