Do you guys actually go to the urologist?

Seeing a urologist in Washington, D.C. isn't exactly the highlight of anyone's life, but it’s certainly not the worst thing you'll ever go through. Especially once you've spent a week suffering from that intense burning sensation, finally figure out what's causing it, and realize all you need are some anti-inflammatory tablets for your kidneys... 🙏
The exam itself is incredibly uncomfortable, obviously. They have to run through all sorts of diagnostic tests to rule out different diseases, and yeah, I had to go through it all... but honestly, after a year passes, you just forget about it...
My advice to everyone: if you notice any changes at all—even if you think you're just being a hypochondriac—just head to a general practitioner for a checkup. It might turn out to be nothing, but it could also be something serious...

It’s been going on for a little while now—a couple of years, actually (I’m 22)—and I can feel this pea-sized lump near my right testicle. To be clear, it’s not ON the testicle itself, but just inside the scrotum or whatever that sac is called. It feels hard and it doesn't hurt, and I don't think it has actually grown in size since I first noticed it. Honestly, the only reason I haven't gone to get it checked out yet is because... well, let's just say I'm feeling pretty embarrassed about it.

I’ve done a bit of reading online regarding symptoms of testicular cancer, like pain and all that, but I haven't dealt with anything like that. I've also been really active with sports for several years now.

On another note, does anyone know if you usually go in for an ultrasound or some other kind of test when you get an exam?

Honestly, I can't be bothered to go to the doctor either—I'm just feeling lazy—but man, the amount of nonsense men pull in mixed company... it's a disaster. Total cowards. Some of them are just straight-up aggressive about it.

And when a girl actually has HPV, some guys are too terrified to even go in for a checkup because they don't want the doctor poking around. That's the kind of guy you run from.

It’s probably just a cyst, but since I’m no doctor, you really ought to see a urologist to get it checked out. They’ll do a physical exam and then might run an ultrasound or a color Doppler if needed—they might even pull some blood to check tumor markers. Look, it's better to deal with ten minutes of awkwardness than to spend days worrying about what it could be!

I’m dealing with a bit of an annoying issue here. Every time I finish urinating, it feels like I haven't quite cleared everything out; a few drops always end up leaking afterward, and frankly, it’s incredibly irritating. I went to see a urologist about it, but without even performing a physical exam, he just told me to drink some cranberry juice to flush everything out. Needless to say, that hasn't done a single thing. Is it possible that I've picked up some kind of bacterial infection that's causing inflammation?

It’s totally possible you’ve picked up some kind of bacterial infection. Your best bet is to get a urine culture done. Just grab your first sample of the morning and take it down to a local diagnostic lab.
I was wondering, does anyone know if there are any good female urologists around here?
Honestly, I’d just feel way more comfortable being examined by a woman rather than a man.

So, I’ve got this lump near my right testicle—not actually *on* the nut itself, but more like around it, maybe in the scrotum area... and man, it hurts sometimes when I ejaculate. It’s this sharp pain in my lower right abdomen right before everything comes out, almost like it’s hurting while the sperm is traveling through that spot where the lump is. I'm 17. About three months ago, I was basically overdoing it with the solo sessions (yeah, okay, I went a little overboard, my bad...), and I felt this stinging sensation in that area, and my testicle hurt for a few days after. Then, a couple of days later, I felt the lump. The lump itself doesn't really hurt, unless I squeeze it too hard, then I get that twinge in my lower right side. He checked things out and said it feels like a blocked vein or something, so probably nothing to worry about. He sent me for some blood work to check for markers, and everything came back totally normal (so, thank God, no cancer or anything...). Since then, neither the testicle nor the lump has swollen up. The thing is, I know I’ve been messing with it too much, so maybe that’s why it hurts... But there was this one time where yesterday and today it actually hurt pretty bad right before I finished. I can literally feel it the second it starts, and even if I stop, a minute later it starts aching again once things get moving (even though I wasn't even poking at it or squeezing the lump specifically). I am totally lost here. Is this like a blood clot or something? How dangerous is this? I totally blanked on mentioning that my pee sometimes looks kind of brownish-red, especially first thing in the morning. It’s not like you can clearly see blood or anything, but it's definitely off... My old man tells me it's nothing to worry about and just happens, but I was reading online that even if it doesn't look like obvious blood, that specific color could still be a sign that there's blood in there...?????

As for the urine, that's simply due to concentration levels. Overnight, a significant amount of blood is filtered while you aren't urinating or drinking anything, leading to a higher concentration of metabolites compared to the daytime when you're hydrating and voiding regularly...
I commend your awareness... even though I work in this field, I suspect I wouldn't find it easy to pull the trigger on seeing a urologist if I were in your shoes.

Thnx, so if it is a clot, does it just... fix itself? Like, do I just let it be? (I actually had one on my arm a few years back; at first, it kept getting inflamed whenever I touched it, but now it's just sitting there totally fine 😬)? Regarding the varicocele thing, I was reading online that most people end up needing surgery to get rid of it—is that actually true? And if it is, how bad is it? Does everything still function normally afterward 🙂?
I remember that exact moment it happened, playing around with my snake 😬—I've been dealing with this ever since. Something definitely popped or went south inside right then (it hit me right in the middle of things and I had to stop immediately, if you know what I mean...). Oh, and I did get my urine tested (it wasn't reddish back then, but whatever, you said the same thing my old man did), and everything came back totally clear. I can't quite remember if it ever looks kind of brownish in the afternoon, maybe it used to happen in the morning, but I'm not 100% sure...

I think I might have varicocele, specifically on my right side. I was reading online that having it on the right is actually super dangerous—is that legit? My urologist already gave me an exam, but honestly, how did he not notice anything!? They seem pretty huge to me, totally visible, and then there’s this lump inside too... Those varicose veins aren't such a big deal; if they're bothering you, you could always chat with a doctor about an outpatient procedure...

Well, I'm almost 18 now and nothing has changed. I’m hoping someone here knows something about this or can offer some insight. Also, if anyone knows a solid urologist or a good hospital in NYC, please let me know.

From what I understand, it's totally normal for one side to hang a bit lower than the other. In some guys, you can barely tell, but for others, it's more noticeable. As far as I know, it's just how things are built...

Just me doing my part to educate the "stronger" 🙂 sex... It’s perfectly natural for one side to be bigger or different than the other. Honestly, just strip down and look in the mirror. You'll see that no single feature—eyes, ears, eyebrows, hands, legs, I could go on forever—is ever perfectly identical. That’s where the beauty of perfection lies... in having flaws. 👍

I have a bit of a "problem." I'm honestly not even sure how to describe it properly. When I pull back the skin, it looks almost as if there’s a slight tear—like it’s been separated from the skin on both the left and right sides. I haven't explained it perfectly. Is that actually normal? If it isn't, does anyone have any idea what might be causing it? 😕
