Robin Palmer3 said:System Import, maybe over at Kvatrić... or they might have some at Pride-Everlast on Maximirska.

They don't carry it—and definitely didn't sell it—at Pride-Everlast, Turbo Sport, Rost Sport, or Kwon. I can't track down System Import, so if anyone knows their exact location or has a phone number, I'd appreciate the help.🙂 Thanks.

Found http://www.systems-import.com/ now just hoping they actually stock it.

$125 WTF??? They're $15-$25 out there... honestly, I'd rather just take a month-long break.

I know, I did reach out, but the issue is the schedule itself—training is one week in the morning and the next at 4:30 AM. Since I don't clock out until 5:00, it just doesn't align. Regardless, thanks for the info.

Is there any Jeet Kune Do training in the DC area? Anyone teaching it locally?
I’ve been trying to track this down for a while now, but I’m coming up empty. Nothing to be found.

Look, there's already the blog—if you're actually serious about publishing something, just let me know. I'll hand over the copyrights to you, and then you can just turn the blog posts into a book...🙄 ☕

stormytinker16 said:There's kickboxing at the Americenter over in the suburbs. Not sure about the price—they probably have a website, so just check there. They used to have classes over by the old hospital district too, but they switched from kickboxing to standard boxing. You get a trainer and work out whenever you schedule it with them. It’s a bit pricey, though $120.

Thanks, stormytinker16🙂 I also heard there's a spot at the Dea fitness center downtown. Does anyone know if it's any good or what the rates are? If it's decent, I might sign up next year.

So just make up your mind already... a few days ago you were saying we need a book, now suddenly it’s a bad idea... you’re indecisive about everything—one minute you want to train Wing Chun, the next it's Jeet Kune Do... I read you loud and clear.🤣 🙄 ☕

Hey guys, where can we actually find a decent spot to go all out and spar during the summer? I really don't want to end up feeling completely wiped out and dehydrated in this miserable heat, 😁 you know what I mean?

Hey there!

So, I’m pretty much a total newbie when it comes to combat sports, and I was wondering which skill—specifically striking, if possible—is actually the best for self-defense and stuff like that...

If anyone out there could break down a comparison for me, I’d really appreciate it.

Personally, I’m definitely leaning toward Thai boxing because of the fighting style and the variety of techniques they use.
Kyokushin karate isn't bad either. Since those guys just explained it...😉

Could someone please provide a comparison?

It’s not quite that simple. In a real self-defense situation, it isn't the style that wins; it's the person using it. Personally, Muay Thai has served me incredibly well. You get those hand strikes, kicks, knees, elbows, along with defense, counters, and specific sweeps or throws.
Self-defense is a tough thing to explain briefly. Basically: strike first, hit where it hurts, hit HARD, and don't stop hitting.

I used to train Muay Thai, but we weren't exactly doing anything groundbreaking... just basic stuff, really.

Still, I'm not in a position to pull off Thai training anymore. Does kickboxing cut it if you're looking for something similar?

Kickboxing is more limited than Muay Thai—knees and elbows are off the table. If you want pure striking power, go with MT.
I don't know what you're expecting, but you aren't going to pick up any real knowledge overnight. We had a group of 25 people starting out here once, and 15 of them quit because they couldn't grasp that you don't just become a samurai in two months. It starts with conditioning and the basics—stuff that most beginners find incredibly boring.

Still, I can't really get back into Thai boxing anymore. Does kickboxing meet those same requirements?

Whereabouts did you do your Muay Thai training? And what do you mean by "nothing special"? Look, kickboxing is basically a catch-all term for seven different disciplines—musical forms, aero-kickboxing, semi-contact, light contact, full contact, low kick, and Thai kickboxing. In its toughest form, it’s still just a watered-down version of Thai boxing. Most often, it ends up being something like Taekwondo or Karate mixed with boxing (depending on the discipline, the fighter, and the gym). Honestly, true "kickboxing" techniques barely even exist.

I did some training back when I was in the police academy in Chicago... what’s your take on Taekwondo?

anywhere...

What you need: two pairs of gloves, maybe some helmets if you're feeling fancy, and a buddy.
