What exactly isn't being covered in the DSJJ knife fighting curriculum? I’m aware that Tuba—much like Zdunic—trained in Arnis under Damir...
I heard through the grapevine that there's someone out in Metkovitch teaching Arnis—though I’m honestly in the dark about which specific style they practice or who their instructor was. My best guess? They probably picked it up while living abroad somewhere.
Aside from him—and based on what I know—knife fighting might eventually show up in systems like Ninjutsu, Krav Maga, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, or even specialized urban self-defense courses—but in all those disciplines, it’s really just one component of the skill set, not a standalone art in itself.

DSJJ utilizes knife techniques—specifically a blend of Arnis and modernized Jiu-Jitsu—but that’s just one component of their broader system.
KM focuses strictly on knife defense, which is essentially the civilian application.
Urbana uses a similar hybrid approach based on Arnis, though I wouldn't recommend them, if you'll excuse my bluntness.
Mr. Damir isn't teaching at the moment.
I assume the goal here is to find a pure system. As far as I know, there isn't one available locally right now. You'd be looking for something like Arnis or Kali (Pekiti Tirsia, Sayoc, etc.).
p.s. Apparently, there's an Arnis group over in the Black Market area of the city. There was a post about it on the forum about a year ago, but the person who posted refused to say who was running it or where they were located. Likely just someone blowing smoke.

Sam Roberts said:Hey guys, anyone training at that Domsa MMA kickboxing club run by Pokrajac?
Seriously, nobody?🙄

Is it even worth mentioning? Probably nothing new here...🤷
So you're hitting CoreGym? Well, his buddy from that old Crocop team—Professor Kolakusic—runs sessions there too. I’m loving the workouts myself... definitely worth checking out since it's right in your neck of the woods.

@placidbison20 thanks 🙂
Boxing - Karate - Judo - Capoeira - Wrestling - Kickboxing - Tae Kwon Do
Looking for some advice on which one to pick. I'm on the shorter side (around 5'9") and pretty lean at 136 lbs, but I've got a bit of a rough edge to me. That’s actually why I want to get into combat sports—I’m way too aggressive for things like soccer or handball. xD
Got strong legs and good balance, though my upper body strength isn't exactly elite yet. I'm fast, too. Not sure which discipline would give me the best edge, so let me know what you guys recommend. 🙂

Kickboxing is the closest thing to Muay Thai.

hmmm.... been scrolling through some kickboxing stuff online, and honestly, it's just not my vibe xD ... I'm leaning more toward judo or maybe taekwondo 😁 but I can't decide which one hits better... judo seems like wrestling but with all these throws and rolls, right? And is taekwondo somewhere in the middle between judo and kickboxing? What do you guys think? I need something that’s going to work my entire body, not just target specific spots.

You asked about Muay Thai in your first post, so that’s why I suggested kickboxing.
In a solid kickboxing class, your whole body gets a workout.
Taekwondo is a sport that focuses primarily on kicks.
In modern competitive Judo, there aren't any strikes; it’s all about throws, leverage, and chokes.
Bottom line is you have to decide if you want a striking sport or something more based on grappling.

Honestly, I’m still on the fence xD. I have no clue what the kickboxing coaches are like around here. I checked out a few local gyms where guys have been training for years... and honestly? Not impressed. They told me practice starts with 30 minutes of soccer, then some light drills, and then just basic partner work. And they only train twice a week? :S Doesn't sound like a great way to actually get good. :S
As for Judo and Taekwondo, word on the street is the coaches there are top-tier. :S
Here’s the Judo club I’m looking at:
Dean Ilić - Current U.S. National Champion in the 90 kg division.
Elvis Klacar
Manuel Tikulin - Official Referee for USA Judo.
Milos Vukotic
Regarding TKD, I only found one main coach, though there are others listed.
SLAVKO JEREB - He earned his 6th Dan black belt directly under General CHOI HONG HI.
Apparently, he even spent some time doing intensive training over in Korea. I don't know much about this stuff yet (at least not yet xD).
Which one should I pick? Man, they both look good xD. But if I'm being real, the idea of hitting things sounds way more appealing than rolling around on a mat with someone all day xD. What do you guys think? Which path is the better move??

We can't make this choice for you. You have to figure it out on your own.🙂
My advice is to go check out some training sessions at a few local gyms first. Then you can decide.

Go for some modern Jiu-Jitsu—you know, a mix of Judo and Karate. Or maybe Hapkido if you're really feeling that TKD striking vibe.

Then just mix 'em up. My advice? Stick to boxing or kickboxing for striking—and maybe wrestling or Judo if you want that American grappling vibe.

Check out the MMA at Zelg’s—honestly, it’s basically everything you're looking for!
#2319 ·
Zelga??? Are you serious? :S
I’ve been doing some Jiu Jitsu 😁
Three times a week, sessions run about 1 hour and 20 minutes
It's paying off $83
Is that overkill or what?
Plus, I'd be training under someone like Mike Bencic

I’m an 18-year-old girl, and I am seriously down for Taekwondo!
QUESTION IS: does anyone know a solid club downtown—somewhere good but won't break the bank (under $67)?
Also, can I train every single day? Not just looking for a hobby thing, but given my pathetic age... lol
AND SO I PRAY 😳 for your advice
