Down in Miami, specifically inside the Torcida boxing gym over at the Poljud arena, there’s some serious training coming up—from October 17th through the 23rd—where the US and Italian national senior teams are going to be hitting the bags together.
Leading the charge for the Italian squad is Roberto Cammarelle, their national selection director—who, if you follow the sport, is a legendary Olympian and honestly one of the most decorated fighters in all of Europe.
This whole setup, including the big showdown between the US and Italy, is really just the latest chapter in this long-standing, incredibly productive partnership between the American Boxing Federation and the Italian Boxing Federation; it’s actually because of this bond that our guys get to head over to that top-tier National Boxing Center in Assisi quite often for training.
It’s a bit of a reunion, too—the Italians were visiting the States back in March 2021 for a fantastic dual meet held at the Grips arena, which was pretty impressive considering we were all dealing with those messy pandemic restrictions and social distancing rules at the time.
The Italian roster looks solid: Giuseppe Canonico and Danilo Mosconi at 60 kg, Paolo Di Lernia at 64 kg, Yoel Angeloni at 67 kg, Manuel Lombardi at 71 kg, Remo Salvati at 75 kg, Gerlando Tumminiello at 80 kg, Jesus Acosta at 86 kg, Mattia Facchini at 92 kg, and Diego Lenzi in the super heavyweight class; they'll be guided by coaches Carmine Cirillo, Michele Cirillo, and Roberto Cammarelle.
Representing the US during these sessions and the main match will be: Rostyslav Bilostotskyi at 57 kg; Patrik Licul and Tadej Černoga at 60 kg; Filip Poturović and Ivan Božac at 63.5 kg; Marin Jelačić, Dorjan Marko, and Deni Alagić at 67 kg; Krešimir Petar Knežević and Marijan Vujević at 71 kg; Noa Ježek and Petar Pavčec at 75 kg; Antonio Grabić and Dmitro Ribalko at 80 kg; Marko Ramljak, Matej Uremović, Nikica Radonjić, and Vito Košar at 86 kg; Marko Čalić and Ivica Bertić at 92 kg; and Marko Milun in the +92 kg slot, all under the direction of head coach Kristijan Hodak.
