Piercings are easy, I can just take those out whenever. The real headache is the ones I’m not supposed to touch—even the old ones. It sucks if you accidentally bump one against a bruise, then you have to deal with putting the piercing back in... and yeah, that hurts like hell..
I looked into that Kendo stuff and honestly, doesn't seem my vibe. I don't see much footwork involved (which is a huge deal for me), it's mostly just swinging sticks around aimlessly. Seems kind of passive too, and frankly, I don't see how I'd actually drop any weight doing that. o.O
Like I said, my main goal is losing weight and getting some muscle definition, but I have zero interest in rotting away in a gym, an aerobics class, or some stupid fitness machine. That whole scene just puts me in a bad mood..
Since I have so much weight to lose anyway, I want it to be something actually interesting, where I get to move my legs a bit 😁 and feel like I'm facing a real challenge instead of this...

Whatever, I'll swing by on Saturday when it opens, just to check things out—tourist style (if that's even allowed). If I find something that actually works for me, great. 🙂 Oh, and where is it exactly? Over by the shopping mall?

Anyway, thanks a ton for all the help. 🙂

Look, if the whole concept of a martial art doesn't click for you, there's zero point in forcing it. There are no kicks in Kendo—if that’s what you meant by "footwork," then sure, from that perspective, it’s non-existent. I assume that's how you're defining the passivity, too. As for the weight loss part (which was actually my main reason for suggesting it in the first place😁)? Well, back when I was doing intensive training camps leading up to competitions, I could easily drop over three pounds per session. Luckily, I only had to do one of those sessions a day.

Classes start this Saturday.
There isn't a schedule posted online.
Actually, there isn't one anywhere, I suppose.
But since you aren't quite sure what you're looking for—you could probably just drop by any day after 7 PM and see for yourself.
It's at the Martinique center. The entrance is in the back, on the side facing toward Kset.
Maybe try Muay Thai. They have a women's section.
Or Taekwondo, if you happen to be more into acrobatics.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu probably won't help much with keeping your core tight, boxing doesn't involve much footwork, and Wing Chun or Kempo might feel a bit too static for you...
Anyway.
That's about it, I guess.

They have a Facebook group where you can ask the secretary.
Or you could just send an email if you don't feel like heading down there.
www.subos.hr so just poke around a bit...

If your goal is weight loss and toning, you should check out here.
The people there actually know what they're talking about, and with a little effort—especially regarding diet—you could probably speed up the process quite a bit.
They have an "FAQ" section, so take a look... don't let the forum name turn you off.
They really do know their stuff...

I gotta say, you really caught me off guard with the comments and all the help. Usually, those other PDFs can be pretty awkward and honestly just plain rude..
huge thanks for that 😁

@crimsonbison10: so I checked out some clips of those kendo matches and I honestly don't see how you’re supposed to lose weight doing that. It feels weird, like you're barely even moving, yet somehow... yeah, super weird 🙂 though yeah, I'm not really feeling the vibe. I'm aiming for something more intense, you know, where I actually get to move around a ton 😁
and I actually went on YouTube to look up some martial arts stuff (total brain fart, didn't think of that earlier 🙄), and Taekwondo definitely looks the coolest. Even if it is a bit too high-energy for someone as clumsy as me 😁, I'm still gonna give it a shot.

@mistypanther: I totally lost track of time thinking there were still 9 months left, then I realized things have already kicked off, so what's the deal with him 😕 🤣 man, I should probably swing by and practice a bit.
Taekwondo and Muay Thai seem awesome... everything else, not so much. Especially Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu—that close contact thing isn't really my scene. I'm more of a long-range type 😁
I sent an email but haven't heard back. Hey, if you happen to know, would they take me if I'm not a student? Ugh, I work and just don't have the energy or the patience for college, but this seems cool and cheap—which is great since my paycheck is basically nonexistent :S

thx for the link, I already spent some time poking around there. It's decent, lots of useful info, especially regarding diet.

anyways, thanks a million again, you guys are legends 😁

EDIT: uh, there's a schedule, but it's from 2006... hopefully it's still valid...

I believe they accept people even if they aren't students.

Things have been a bit quiet lately.
It seems like everyone is busy, so there isn't much for the trolls to sink their teeth into.
😁

The women's Muay Thai classes are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
I suspect Mondays might be reserved for more advanced students.
I am not entirely sure about the specific times, but I believe they follow the old schedule.
Regardless, if I were you, I would stick to Muay Thai rather than Taekwondo.
(If you ever find yourself needing that, God forbid...)

Shorts, a T-shirt, and sneakers should be enough to get started.
The instructor will let you know when you actually need hand wraps, gloves, or shin guards...
And don't just come to watch. That seems a bit pointless.
It is better to just try it once; then everything becomes clear.
👍

They will reply to your email... eventually.
Everything is shifting right now since the season only kicked off this week.

Yeah, they do.

I heard somewhere that the enrollment numbers might rise this year for $33.
At least, that’s what I gathered.

The main issue with Saturdays is just the crowd.
I’m not sure if it’s quite as bad in the women's classes, but they probably have to cap the men's sessions because so many people try to sign up every single year.

(My apologies for making this my third consecutive post, but my colleague just sent over the updated schedule.
I am not entirely sure if it shows as a new post when I edit an existing one to add more information.
While we are on the subject, I suppose I am not certain if editing is even permitted on this forum.

Women's Muay Thai in Suburbia (Saturdays):

Mondays, 7:00 PM - 8:15 PM: Advanced classes
Wednesdays and Fridays, 7:00 PM - 8:30 PM: All levels

The membership fee is $33.
There is no requirement to be a student.
Just print out the registration form from www.suburbia-fitness.com, pack your sneakers, shorts, and a T-shirt in a bag, and you should be set.
That seems sufficient enough for starters, I guess.
Of course, you might want to try a few training sessions before officially signing up and paying the membership fee.

Ah, hell... my bad... this kind of thing has been happening way too often lately. 😢 Honestly, my head’s been stuck in the clouds, *black as coal*, and I’ve been buried under so much work that it didn't even cross my mind...

😍

you're thinking about guys way too much

swing by the Convention Center at Pavilion 25 (up the stairs) -- that's where they do the Krav Maga training

but watch out, there are plenty of guys there too... and sweaty ones at that

just a college student, 20 years old, did competitive swimming for seven years before stopping three years ago
here’s my goal: drop about 6 or 7 pounds and just tone everything up
what I’m looking for: some solid martial arts recommendations (needs to be high intensity, something where I can really sweat at the gym!!)

thanks so much 🙏🙏🙏

Speaking from experience—Kyokushin karate is brutal. There's a club called Sosai over in the Trešnjevka neighborhood—basically the Cibona Fitness Center (you enter off F. Andraševa)—they run sessions Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:00 to 8:15 PM. You can always hit the weight room afterward if you’re feeling it...
but if you're just looking to drop some pounds, why bother with martial arts?? if you actually want to learn something, then that's a whole different story. Kyokushin will definitely kick your ass while teaching you stuff at the same time...
Just come by and check it out—see if the vibe works for you...

It isn't just about the weight; that's just what gets you through the door. 😁
It’s about that other thing I mentioned—actually learning something useful. That’s the real reason I’m looking into martial arts.
Thanks. 🙏 🙏

Best to hit up a few training sessions nearby and just decide for yourself...

If that "other thing" you're referring to is what I think it is—someone actually attacking you or at least intending to—then my advice is to stay away from anything labeled with prefixes like Kar* or Taekw*. Instead, look into Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Krav Maga, or similar disciplines. You used to have that decent grappling club over in the downtown area, though they were struggling with space issues back then; I’m not sure what their current setup looks like. But honestly, that should really only be your second choice, and arguably the less ideal one. If you're looking closer to the suburbs or the north side, there are plenty of options nearby. Either way, it's worth the investment...🙂

Go find somewhere with a better crowd, maybe head to a karate studio where that little cutie hangs out—seems like there are plenty of girls around there if you ask me. But hey, if your goal is to hook up with someone who might actually catch you off guard, you’re probably better off hitting up a bar in downtown Chicago.
