Just hit them up via phone or email first if you actually want to go...

So, I’m thinking about getting into some kind of combat sport here in the States.

I don't really want to go down the path of actual fighting or competitive stuff, like boxing or whatever.
I'm pretty uncoordinated, honestly, but I'd love to blow off some steam and learn how to defend myself—you know, basic offense and defense.😁

I actually spent a year doing streetfighting, but it got a little too brutal for my taste, and frankly, I got bored with it.

What do you guys recommend?

If you're curious, go ahead and drop some details about how they operate over there. I'm asking because of that "brutal" label they've been given.

They’re just throwing beans and tossing bikes at each other... 😛

If you aren't looking to compete, try Ninjutsu.

I wasn't quite sure where to direct this question, so I figured I'd just ask here, assuming nobody minds 😁

Here's the deal; are you allowed to use strikes from something like karate in Muay Thai, kickboxing, or similar stand-up combat sports (assuming they aren't strictly prohibited, like elbows in certain kickboxing leagues), or are the strikes required to follow specific "official" technical rules?

Which exact strikes are you talking about?
Anything that follows the rulebook is fair game.
As for how you actually execute the strike itself, that’s entirely up to you...

So, we’ve started getting into joint locks and some other stuff I honestly hope I never actually have to use in real life, but
the fundamentals they covered—like defending against punches and kicks—are actually pretty solid and useful.

I did a little digging and I'm thinking about checking out this instructor over near Savica who teaches Wushu, Taekwondo, and Kung Fu. Does anyone here know anything about his style?

This might have been asked already, but does anyone know where I can pick up a hakama? You know, the ones you wear over the kimono.

I just took a look at the training routine, and honestly, it looks absolutely fantastic, much like having a perfectly mapped out roadmap before starting a cross-country road trip... I'm officially hitting the ground running tomorrow. 👍

Hey there, fellow mere mortals and pro fighters alike! 😉

...I’ve just got one single question. I’m really hoping some kind soul out there can help me out, otherwise I’ll probably end up starting a whole new thread, and then everyone will start yelling at me, "Use the search bar! Use the search bar!" But let me tell you, I know for a fact that the "search bar" is absolute garbage and isn't going to help me one bit. 😁

The Question: Regarding Muay Thai --- does anyone happen to know of a solid club over in the Trešnjevci area of Chicago? Specifically somewhere near the market?

My coach would tell you... any hook that lands is a legal one, regardless of how you throw it. 😁

Joseph Bishop4 here. Just checking in. Everything is looking solid on my end. Keeping things moving forward. Nothing to report yet, but I’m watching closely. Stay sharp. kaže:
I'd tell you my trainer this... every single person who sits down for a rep is doing it right, regardless of their technique. 😁

And I'll tell you this—my buddy Kroše sat down so hard that I ended up breaking my arm. 😉

Tiger, do you think I'm joking? It's like expecting rain in a desert. 🤷

Look, if you’re standing somewhere around 6'1" (give or take an inch or two) and you happen to find yourself in Los Angeles occasionally, I’d be happy to pass mine along to you. It’s a bit heavy—lots of cotton in the weave, you know—and it isn't some high-end designer cut like a Hayashi or a crinoline model, but honestly, I’ve only worn it twice. To be perfectly frank, I've never really enjoyed wearing a hakama, and I’m still not entirely sure what the practical purpose of the thing is anyway, so if you want it...

The hakama was standard attire in Japan, sure, but there are actual benefits to it. You get better balance, a sharper sense of your center (the Hara), and it helps keep your back straight (the koshita). Once you wear it long enough, you get used to it completely.
The only real downside is that movement feels awkward at first, and 😂climbing stairs becomes a chore.😉 👍
