Plasma Donation

The thing you have to realize is that plasma regenerates pretty quickly, mostly because it’s essentially just water. When you donate blood, you're also giving up red blood cells, which take a much longer time to fully replenish in your system.

Man, back in my college days—if you can call it that—we all had our little ways of stretching those pathetic, razor-thin student budgets just to survive.

Man, I can't even admit this to myself—back when I was in college. In those days, that was actually decent money for a student. I don't remember the exact figure, but we're talking roughly $33. It’s definitely more now, obviously—inflation, higher cost of living, all that other stuff.

Sorry if I'm bringing up an old topic again, but I was just wondering where you actually go to donate plasma and how much cash you really end up getting?

Look, I'm literally Googling the exact same thing right now, and from what I can tell, you donate plasma at the Institute of Immunology over on Rockefeller Boulevard, $33 + you get lunch out of it.
The only thing I'm wondering is if they take people every day or just certain days, and I'm guessing it's mostly a morning thing, or does it not even matter?

You can go once a week....
I always used to go on Monday mornings...at least that's what I know. Maybe they've changed things up recently, but I doubt you're allowed to go more than once a week...

Here is the situation: I regularly donate plasma, once a week as permitted. By chance, I was planning to donate whole blood tomorrow, but apparently, you can't donate plasma again for four months afterward. I want to know why exactly. Is this actually dangerous, or could I manage it if I eat right, stay healthy, and take multivitamins? Also, will the staff at the plasma center be able to tell that I donated blood? Do they share donor data somehow? Please only respond if you actually know the facts; I am not looking for guesswork.

You get $50. But first, you have to provide a sample, and then you head back next week to donate plasma. They give you breakfast, though they mentioned starting next week it’ll just be juice once you finish $50. And you can go once a week

Yep, it's packed every single day. You’re stuck waiting in line, and the whole process takes about 45 to 50 minutes. You really need to show up between 8:00 and 10:00 AM just to make sure you actually get seen when your turn comes.

Does that same level of chaos apply to the initial plasma validity testing?

Nope, they actually do that in a different room, but only on Mondays. And they aren't checking your plasma; they're just verifying your blood type and screening you for diseases.😉

Is this something that only needs to be done once, or is it necessary to repeat the process after a few weeks, mj.? It seems to me that I will simply go there one single time; for us struggling students, the money is never quite enough 🙈

Well, they actually grab one tube of blood during every plasma donation. They run tests on it before they even touch the plasma to make sure everything is good to go. Beyond that, I really don't know much more since I've only done it once myself!

Bringing this thread back to life; does anyone know where in Indianapolis I can go to donate plasma?
