Hey Megan Diaz33, does your period absolutely wreck you every single month?

Regarding the pill, my body just straight up refuses to deal with it, honestly. I’ve tried a few different kinds and nothing worked for me at all.
It was back when I was around your age, and it was just a total bust—I tried Trinovum, Celest, and I can't even remember the other one, but none of them did a damn thing for me, so I finally just quit.
Either I was dealing with constant bleeding, or the cramps were non-stop, or I'd end up with protein in my urine; basically, they're a huge no-go for me.👍

Please, just tell me how you experience the pain. For instance, I get this ache in my lower abdomen that just radiates out toward my groin and then spreads through my entire pelvic area, and honestly, it feels like my lower back is being absolutely torn apart. The pain hits so incredibly fast, too, and usually, it settles more heavily on one side—either the left or the right. By then, I’m totally winded, the bleeding gets way heavier, and these intense contractions start kicking in more and more frequently. My heart starts racing, I break out in a sweat, and my head gets this weird, numb sensation, almost like I'm getting slightly dizzy.
Once the heavy bleeding finally lets up and the pain starts to subside, I definitely need my pills to get through it.

The pain hits the second I get it. A light sting, nothing too intense, right in my lower abdomen, and I just know—that's it. Straight to the bathroom and grab the first Advil. If I’m home and take it immediately, I sometimes get lucky and dodge that horrible, unbearable, and usually way-too-long agony. Otherwise, I get these hot and cold waves washing over my whole body, sweating, and more often than not, feeling nauseous. A few times, while waiting for the pain to subside, I've found myself hunched over the toilet, hoping to throw up just because I thought it might make me feel better. Or I'd sit there on the floor by the toilet with my head near the sink. It's awful. My whole body cramps up; I try to relax, trying to do the opposite of what the pain is doing just to get some relief. I curl up in bed in a fetal position and try not to move much, hoping it'll pass sooner. My lower abdomen, my pelvis—it feels like my thighs are being ripped apart from the cramps. Then I get this dull ache in my neck and head, and I feel completely weak and miserable. If I try to stand up because I can't lie down anymore, I get dizzy and start seeing spots.
It lasts at least—if I'm lucky—half an hour, but sometimes it goes for an hour or even ninety minutes. The next day, on the second day of my period, I take another pill when the cramps return, and then usually a third one later in the day. My cycle lasts about four days, and by the third day, it rarely hurts. But the first and second days are a given, and the second day is usually worse, longer, and more intense.

Honestly, I don't even want to be on them.

I'm not sure how much of this is genetic. I just know my grandmother suffered, my mother still does after two kids, and from what people say, mine is even worse than both of theirs. Does that mean my daughter will eventually have to deal with this same nightmare one day?

Geni did what she had to do, but your pace and hers aren't the same.
It is best to take anything interesting you read here—like magnesium supplements, walking, or using a heating pad—to your doctor or gynecologist. You should work together to design the perfect therapy for you.

Even though I can't function without my tablets (at least for three days!), I realized that mentally, I've been okay since I faced this. When I feel the pain, I just tell myself: "I know what this is. It’s a normal process and it will pass in a few days. I’ll just spend the time watching movies, haha."

I get that. It’s just that whenever I try to describe the pain to my GP or my gynecologist, they both give me this blank stare, and everything basically boils down to Oh, come on, it’s really not that bad.

Easier?
I totally know what you mean. I actually learned how to deal with the pain in a different way myself—basically, I try to distract myself with something else while waiting for the meds to kick in, and it usually works. As for the movie idea... man, I wish! But I’m at college almost all day every day, and it’s hard to even lie down when the cramps are hitting me.

🙂
I knew it was you immediately just from your username. 😉

When the doctor isn't in, there's no faxing.😁 😁

Yeah, honestly nothing works, not even trying every single position under the sun, even when I’m literally curled up in a ball.
Unfortunately, I’ve been stuck taking about 9 or 10 pills a day just to get through my period for years now.
My mom used to deal with intense pain too, but it was mostly just the first day, and even then, it wasn't nearly as bad as when she was in labor.
My grandma had similar episodes, though it happened during menopause with all the bleeding and stuff because she ended up having uterine cancer and had everything removed.
I don't want to freak anyone out, though—she was much older when she went through all that.
The only thing that keeps me going is knowing it’s only those roughly six days out of the month; otherwise, I probably would have kicked the bucket from the pain by now. Like I said, I’ve basically learned how to live with it. That’s really why I’m posting, just to see if anyone else out there is dealing with these same symptoms.🙂

Today is day one for me, and the cramps are absolutely killing me. I took two pills, but it feels like I didn't even take anything... I’m doing okay for now, but sometimes this ends with an ER visit or spending the whole day throwing up. Honestly, since I was on birth control until recently, I actually forgot how bad this gets, and today it just hit me all at once.😢
There's really no fix. Some girls might get lucky if their meds actually work, but they don't work for me.👎

It was my first day, which coincided with day three of the flu.
I have watched more movies in the last three days than I have in the past three months.

Ketanol, chamomile, less chocolate than usual, and avoiding grapes or other foods that stimulate digestion.

Just lying around.
With movies. Of course!

Ugh, this stuff... I absolutely hate it 😢

It’s okay, though it doesn't really help much at the moment... 🙂 But things are slowly looking up; I can actually sit up straight now without hunching over. 🙂 Weeeee, party time! 😁 (Man, I love it when the pain finally lets up—it feels so good just being pain-free 😁)

Just like I mentioned a few weeks back—you really have to face that pain head-on. If you think about it, what even is menstrual pain?
It’s just proof that you're healthy, alive, not pregnant, and not in menopause.😁
Sure, some people feel it and others don't. You happen to be one of those who does.
Thank goodness for modern medicine so we actually have ways to manage it!
When you're hurting, nobody should dare bother you (they know you'll give them a look that could melt steel), and you finally get to rest, which is something you might not have done all month.

That’s my perspective.
The pain is actually less intense because I let my body relax.
Whenever the cramps start, I just say, "BRING IT ON!"
And then it's like she realizes she shouldn't be bothering me so much!

Meanwhile, I just enjoy watching movies and sipping some chamomile tea.

It’s true, that’s just how it goes... I don't make things any easier on myself, either. Instead of actually relaxing, I just tense up and strain my muscles even harder.
I mean, if I haven't gotten used to this after all these years, I probably never will. So let it hurt; it is what it is. I've always managed to make it through that one difficult day, and I'll do the same in the future.😉🙂

One needs to bundle up because of the snow.
Plus, it’s better for the mental health.
Personally, I would lose my mind just lying in bed all day—I’d probably end up pacing around the room too... but you always have to find an activity. 😁
I found mine in movies. Some people find it in books, others in endless phone calls, some in sleeping... ultimately, it will pass! That is what keeps me going.

I did a little browsing, and once I finish my current supply of supplements, I think I will give this a shot:

I gotta say, I'm in a ton of pain too... first I tried some syrup, then just a bunch of various pills, and now I'm on Voltaren, maybe two or three a day if it's really bad, or just one the next day... most days I can manage okay even if there's a dull ache, but honestly, nothing seems to touch it quite like the Voltaren does...

I deal with this intense, nagging pain for a few hours right before my period actually hits. Most of the time, I swear by Advil, though it tends to wreak havoc on my stomach if I take too much. I’ve also found that using a heating pad on my abdomen really does the trick; once that warmth kicks in, the bleeding usually starts, and the relief follows shortly after.😉

Is that something you take every day, though?

It’s my first time jumping into this thread. I’ve been lurking and reading through everyone else’s experiences, and honestly... there are just so many...

Here is what my pain actually looks like:
About three or four days before everything hits, my lower back starts aching. It’s a constant dull throb, but nothing I can't handle without reaching for the medicine cabinet.
Then, things start to shift... slowly at first. For those first two or three days, while I am 🙂 praying to God to spare me from the absolute agony that's coming.
Then, on day three or four, I’ll wake up feeling totally fine. I eat breakfast, life seems normal. Then, out of nowhere, I have to sprint to the bathroom because this brutal diarrhea kicks in. And while I’m sitting there—sorry for the TMI, but this is the reality of it😍—I get these unbearable back spasms so intense they actually make me vomit. At some point in the middle of that chaos, I’ll swallow two Advil, but of course, once the vomiting starts, they don't even stand a chance of kicking in.
At the same time, I’m sweating buckets, looking pale as a ghost like I’m literally dying, and shaking because I’m hit with these massive chills all at once.

And then, quite literally, I am dying from the pain. It’s hitting me from every angle, but the agony is so soul-crushing that I would gladly let them strip me naked and rush me to the ER just to get a shot of something for the pain. But I can’t go anywhere because I can't stop vomiting and running to the bathroom. In those moments, you lose every ounce of dignity. Nothing matters except someone, somewhere, helping me.
The only thing that keeps me sane is knowing it’ll pass in an hour or two.
But even then, it drags on. I can't even begin to describe it or do it justice here. It is pure, unadulterated torture. I start mumbling nonsense from the pain, I’m twisting and turning, I can’t even sit on the toilet... It is a total NIGHTMARE!
Last time, I was actually negotiating with my husband (after one of these episodes, which, by the way, happen every month or two) about just buying a heavy-duty inflatable lounger so I could suffer lying down. Honestly, it sounds easier.

After that, the whole ordeal drags on for another five or six days, and that’s if I’m having a "good" one!
I even get similar pains around ovulation. No vomiting then, but everything else is exactly the same.
I have seen every gynecologist in the state, and they all tell me everything is perfectly normal. I’m at a healthy weight, and nobody in my family has ever dealt with pain this extreme...
I usually start popping Advil every single morning during those days...

So, yeah... that's my life.
