Help, please. I was on Logest for about three years, but then five or six months ago I just stopped taking them because I went through a breakup and figured I didn't need them anymore. Since then, I’ve started having nipple discharge, and my lymph node near my armpit—which used to swell up quite a bit back when I was on the pill—has flared up again. I'm assuming it's just my prolactin levels spiking because I quit the medication, but now I'm thinking about starting them up again. I just don't know if it's actually healthy to jump right back in like this, especially with these symptoms popping up. Thanks. 🤷🙂

No offense, but I just don't get some things. Like, what the hell—do you seriously think anyone on this forum is going to give you a more expert answer than an actual doctor? For stuff like this, you go see a gynecologist and talk to them—that's what they're there for. People here can offer advice or share their own experiences, sure, but for something this serious, go see a professional. You probably need tests or whatever first anyway, so don't mess around and try to play doctor on your own. 😉

I wasn't looking for anything other than some actual experience and a second opinion!! I saw my doctor back in January and he extended my prescription for the pills, and yeah, I'm fully aware of all the side effects you get when you quit, but I haven't heard much about what happens when you start taking them again, so that's really all I was trying to figure out!!

Quick question, I just started on Triquilar birth control pills... specifically yesterday. So, when does it actually start being reliable protection? Like, right away, or do I need to wait a while?
thanks for the help

Usually, it works from the very first pill—but if you want to be one hundred percent sure, just use backup protection for the first week.

Look, I get that you’re just looking for some insight, but there are plenty of people out there playing fast and loose with birth control without knowing what they're doing. If these symptoms popped up right after your doctor's visit, honestly, just go back and tell him. Better safe than sorry. 🙂

Alternatively, you could opt for a comprehensive blood panel to determine your exact prolactin levels 🙂

I finally grabbed a referral today to get my bloodwork done because I need to check my prolactin levels. If it turns out to be high, does that mean I have to stay off the pill for a while until it drops back down, or can I just jump right back on? Thanks! 🙂

Started taking Triquilar on Sunday. Took the second pill on Monday—same day my boyfriend finished inside me.

Now I’m starting to wonder if it was too soon, even though the label says you're protected after that first pill.

We're using protection until the pack is done... honestly, I don't want the stress of this.

I’m honestly not entirely sure if this sub is intended for culinary discussions or health advice, but I suppose it doesn't much matter in the grand scheme of things: Has any of you actually gained weight from taking those pills—I’m talking at least ten or fifteen pounds? Personally, I feel like I have, and frankly, it feels incredibly foolish. If I do stop taking them, will that extra weight just vanish into thin air, or is it the kind of stubborn baggage that sticks to your ribs and refuses to budge?
I’ve had quite enough of these mindless little tablets already; I am counting down the days until I can finally quit. I’m hoping to wrap this up within the month, as I really need to be in decent shape before my trip to the lake house.

So, I’ve been on Yaz for about six months now and everything seems fine. Thank God I haven't gained any weight (knock on wood 😁). My skin even cleared up. But I have to wonder—is it actually possible for side effects like headaches, nausea, or losing your appetite to suddenly show up after being on the pill for this long? Thanks!

Yes. And naturally, the weight won't just disappear on its own; weight never simply vanishes by itself.😁
However, if you exercise and watch your diet, that should do the trick.

Yeah, I did. On Yasmin. -.- My appetite just spiked out of nowhere and I didn't even realize it was happening. It's not even like I was eating way more than usual or anything. 🤷

I had to stop taking Yaz because I’ve got surgery coming up, and I was wondering about what happens if I pick them back up later—say, maybe three months after stopping. Does restarting like that mess with my risk levels or anything like that? Basically, is it better to just walk away from them entirely, or should I wait a year or so before starting again?

I’ve packed on a solid 30 pounds since I started taking Diane eight years ago, but let's be real—I can't pin all of that on them. It’s also about quitting sports, my lifestyle, sitting around way too much, eating... you know how it goes.🙄 Besides, being 25 isn't exactly the same as being 17.😉

But yeah, they definitely played a part in me getting a bit softer.

Hey everyone,
Quick question—can I start birth control whenever I want, or do I seriously have to wait until the very first day of my period??

Thanks in advance..

It’s probably best to start on the first day of your period.

Honestly, just read the instructions that came with the pack—that’ll tell you everything you need to know.

It doesn't even have to be day one of your period—literally, the pill instructions tell you that. The only catch is if you don't start on that first day, you've gotta use backup protection for at least the first week. Honestly, any decent gynecologist should be laying all this out for you and telling you exactly when to kick things off anyway.

Wouldn't it be easier to actually get a decent buzz if you just started at the first dose? That way, you're fully covered, right?🤷

And honestly, you really need to lay that out for the doctor who prescribed the pills in the first place.

So get this—some doctors are out here claiming you shouldn't drink, but instead, you should wait for some specific day or whatever. Honestly, who knows? I just started hitting the pubs on day one like a normal person.
