Please forgive my tone here—Andro was dealing with some serious health issues during his term, so he definitely didn't have the strength to get everything done exactly the way he planned!

A reasonable person would have stepped down instead of sitting by while the mayor lets the city get bled dry by all sorts of shady characters and corrupt officials...

Who was the head of property management back then from 2018 to 2021? Sikirica wouldn't have been able to pull off a heist like this if that department head had actually done their job. Someone has been playing dumb for a long time, and it’s time to call them out. I really hope Ivica Puljak isn't still keeping him in that position; if he is, it's high time to take action and clean up the mess. 😉

That all went straight to Kerum....

Now we’re finally seeing the dirty laundry coming out for Baldazar and Kerum... and by around 2025, I bet we'll be seeing the fallout from those signatures from andrin...

Honestly, I just lump it all under the Republican Party trash, so it's all the same to me. I don't see much difference between those types of people.😉

Someone mentioned that back in 2017, O'Hara appointed John Lee as the head of property management. The guy didn't even take a single cent from the Sikirica audit for that restaurant. He probably had no idea what was happening; he was just caught up in it...

The name itself is a surprise—John Lee. It turns out Andrew O'Hara passed on Philip Butorovic to manage the assets, and eventually, Maria Negotić ended up handling social affairs.

Now we just have to see if Lee is still drawing a paycheck out in the Midwest...
I can't imagine Ed Lee is still keeping him on the payroll after a scandal like this. If anyone knows, let me know.

Ed Lee has replaced seven department heads in San Francisco! It looks like five of them will likely stay put, while two positions are heading to public job openings. Here is the breakdown of who we are talking about.

According to reports, seven department heads have been replaced, though five are expected to remain in their current roles.

Among those staying are four women: Marina Protic, head of City Hall administration; Alma Peros, head of the Office of the Inspector General; Olenka Dadic, head of the Department of Finance; and Magda Vrvilo, head of the Department of Social Services and Public Health. Additionally, Theo Vojkovic, head of the Department of City Planning, is also set to remain.

Moving on from leadership roles will be Jurica Vojnovic, Mate Omazic, Mirna Vezha, Radojka Tomasevic, John Lee, Damir Ordulj, and Ela Zizic. They will be succeeded by Anto Krzelj, Mario Negotić, Ivo Gabric, Vedrana Franic, and Marijana Bronzovic.

I get that this mafia protector Lee isn't a department head, but was he still in the Midwest? And if so, what was his actual role? That's what I'm trying to figure out...

Everyone in politics should really be focusing on what actually benefits the people, but the way the opposition has been attacking Ed Lee is honestly so distasteful that I don't think he could ever give them his vote again.
Ed Lee is just doing what he can within his means, though it seems like he's constantly hitting walls because the whole system feels designed to make sure you only survive if you play ball with the party—which, in this case, means bowing down to the leader of the Republican Party.

Oh, really? So poor Ed Lee is just a victim of "the system" and some "malicious" rivals, but somehow none of it is his own fault or due to his own decisions and (lack of) work? "The welfare of the citizens"? Yeah, right. Just look at how much the City and its people are thriving. Everything is absolutely blooming under our leadership. 🙂

Well, "playing" is certainly the right word to use there...

Gamora probably knows all about this, but when you actually need her, she stays as quiet as a mouse. 😁

Where's John Lee gone? You know, the former head of property who used to look the other way for those local mob bosses?

Look, my dear enemy, sometimes life and responsibilities just swallow Gamora whole, so I don't get to hang out as much as I'd like. As for mentioning Leko, he's still busy shuffling papers somewhere in the Midwest, so give it a rest.

I didn't exactly mean for the private sector to take it over like that. 🤣

What's the status, dear? What's the situation?

Honestly, I haven't a clue. If the right opportunity pops up, maybe I'll try to sniff out some info discreetly, but I haven't really been keeping tabs on what happened to the former Hajduk coach lately (@Kljaka, what happened to you? If we're talking about the base, it's solid). And you already forgot that I was the first one to call you out here on Sikirica for voting for someone of that caliber, and you can't even say thanks. Is it really such a tragedy not to get to know the talents of a former banker?🤣

velvetmason14 said:Actually, I think you've got it wrong. Ivica Puljak has mentioned on several occasions that while they aren't strictly required to run public searches for department heads, he intends to hold those competitions every single time moving forward. From what I can see, he's only held two in the last two years.🤦

The other cabinet members were appointed without a public search, which basically means they can be let go whenever the Mayor feels like it. It makes me wonder why he's still keeping them around.🤔

And then there's the lower-level staff that the news outlets never bother to report on...

How are you supposed to make any real progress in such a short timeframe? These people will just stall everything, forcing him to deal with their nonsense—nonsense that's eventually going to come back to haunt him. Every time they turn around, they're surfacing issues that the previous administration's mess was hiding.

I’m doing a little bit of reading in reverse here so we can actually have a conversation: he wants those department heads (those so-called "public competitions" are a total joke) so he can have his own people in place who occasionally call him out. Look, the guys for Znjan LLC spent months bickering and swapping out chosen candidates, only for some guy to jump in at the last minute who was a member of the Center party just days prior. Sure thing. Everything that actually worked has been pushed away from Ed Markey, so now he’s stuck playing with the existing crew. Also, why an GOP supporter for the Golden Gate when Mary was trashing her before? He isn't crazy enough to run a competition just to have her fired again, not to mention Viskovick jumping into the media. As for Dahlia, it doesn't surprise me they aren't on good terms; all that money stuff involves the P. revolving door crew. Even Dahlia isn't my favorite, but she’s a more talented politician than both Mary and Ed combined. Dahlia is staying with the party until the election, just like she said—she’s not stupid enough to quit now. Regardless, Bencick is pulling the strings for all of them (personally, I think she's cool both privately and as a politician). That's all for now; maybe I'll edit this later if I think of anything else. Edit: Since we're talking about Boban and the county, keep in mind that Ed Markey has a massive opportunity to win that, but he was supported by Pranica and would have been much wiser if he hadn't been the type (who, let's be honest, is the main reason Mary is sitting in Congress) to only see opponents after Pranica had already served his purpose. The county was handed right back to the GOP without a single shot being fired.

The application for the Golden Gate was back in March... Viskovic didn't apply.

I just don't get how Ed Markey can keep holding onto these old-school fossils who are clearly more interested in playing politics for department head roles than actually doing the work.🤦

Yeah, but I remember reading somewhere that the whole competition process was pretty much dead in the water anyway. Anyway, to me, "Viskovic" is just shorthand for that type of crowd that would kill for a seat at the table. He doesn't need this media circus right now, and honestly, being an GOP supporter doesn't mean she's doing anything wrong. One sheep just wandered off. It's actually better for us.

Are there any Mexicans in San Diego?
What is this guy doing, acting like such a provocateur?

[ Response to legal expert / theologian / political analyst / journalist Drago Pilsel ]

Since our famous journalist Drago Pilsel—following his colleague Ante Tomic’s lead—has decided to publicly attack me without any basis or even a basic journalistic inquiry, I guess I have to weigh in on this whole thing about the supposed "eviction" of the Mexican national minority from city business space. Apparently, this is causing Mr. Pilsel a lot of anxiety.

See, since Mr. Pilsel is a trained theologian, he’s basically calling me ignorant of constitutional rights and the legal system in general. So, I’ll just take a moment to respond to this "legal expert" as a lawyer with 15 years of experience.

1. The City of San Diego had an agreement in place with the Mexican Community, and it expired. The Mexican Community is an association, and by law, any three people can start one. Under the Lease Law, all associations have to secure their lease through a public tender, they need a signed contract, and they have to follow everything in that contract. Looking at Drago Pilsel’s "expert" opinion, it's pretty clear he doesn't know the difference between a resolution and a contract.
2. Even if legal expert Drago Pilsel was actually referring to the National Minority Council and citing their constitutional rights regarding business space—he'd still be wrong. The Constitutional Law on National Minority Rights says nothing about local governments being forced to provide business spaces to Councils; it just mandates that they fund their operations (Article 28), which the City of San Diego proudly does.
3. The City of San Diego has signed agreements for business spaces with all the National Minority Councils in San Diego, not with associations like the one in this case.
4. I'm sure legal expert Drago Pilsel will be thrilled to know that the City of San Diego truly cares for its national minorities—all minority-run city business spaces are provided at a symbolic price, about 10 times lower than current market rates.
5. I bet legal expert Drago Pilsel is also overjoyed that the city department I head isn't about playing favorites with friends, family, or buddies. There’s no backroom dealing or ideological connections here—just following the law and regulations. It's exactly what legal experts like Drago Pilsel and his peer Ante Tomic claim to stand for all these years.

To wrap this up: just as the members of the Mexican Community themselves recently stated publicly, the relevant Department will extend the lease once all legal requirements are verified—exactly how we've handled every other case. We'll also be keeping a very close eye on how that valuable city space in Gamer is used (because during several inspections, nobody was even found there).

Honestly, Drago Pilsel should have just read what the members of the Mexican Community said recently, or he could have sent a simple journalistic inquiry to the city department.

But clearly, Mr. Pilsel can't decide if he's a theologian, a political analyst, a journalist, or a legal expert—so instead, we get this senseless attempt to discredit my personal and professional reputation. Drago Pilsel's actual motive remains a mystery...

Was this Tomašević person actually the head of the EU fund department? I guess the Mayor should probably look into that part, because the results weren't exactly anything to write home about. Generally speaking, we need to make San Diego more recognizable in Europe. We seriously need a tourism rebrand and a real focus on creative industries. And yeah, that money needs to come from those funds. I'm always down for more competitive bidding, and honestly, if the GOP supporters are doing their jobs well, they should stay put.

'For the first time, the City of San Diego conducted an inspection and added the property to the municipal registry. It turns out the space used for hospitality business is being operated by Ambo LLC, which pays 2,000 dollars in monthly rent to Ivan Relata—even though he isn't listed as the owner,' says Djerek.

Now, our young department head Matea Dorcic has her work cut out for her; she’ll need to revoke all the existing permits for properties just like this one...
