Kate Jackson2 said:Look, the contracts, permits, and everything tied to that land were settled a long time ago.
All that happened just now is that the bankruptcy proceedings for the original developer wrapped up, and this new firm with actual cash stepped in to buy it all out and start building.

Attacking the city administration over this specific case is just low.
They'll probably go after the mayor for the Westgate project next, too.

It was a fair point raised by the user about where all the protests were when there was actually something to do about this.

Does anyone even remember a single protest in the last 20 years—not counting the last two?

What do you mean there weren't any? The first thing that comes to mind is the water district stuff. And besides, the City can just revoke the building rights because they expired. Everything else being said is just smoke and mirrors. People were calling for a cancellation five or six years ago, but the administration back then just played dumb. Even now, they don't have all the necessary permits, and on top of that, they just pushed through yet another project amendment.

I don't get it. They spent over 20 years swapping out investors, changing the zoning, doing all sorts of stuff... and now suddenly everyone's revolting? About what exactly?

A garage? Please. If we're talking about a spot for 100 cars, sure, that helps traffic. But this thing holds 500! It'll pull 250 cars right off the streets—they built a massive project here. And what, they should have managed traffic perfectly during construction too? Honestly, maybe we should just stop building everything and let this traffic nightmare persist for another 100 years.

Are people just complaining for the sake of complaining? What does the city even have to say to residents when those same residents sold off their heritage decades ago, and the developer actually has all the legal paperwork in order? I don't get it. Is someone supposed to explain things to one half of the neighborhood while telling the other half something completely different?

It’s high time that neglected lot was put to actual use because there’s no room for eyesores in the middle of downtown.
Let's be real, this whole thing is just political theater and a power move by certain people trying to grab influence. I'm not saying I'm against it, but...
Those garages should have been built if these people had any sense, instead of some fancy cocktail lounge, 5-star hotel, and office spaces. Plus, nobody has set the pricing for residents yet. Short version: it's going to be way more expensive than that infamous development near the hospital, and at least that parking helped clear up the congestion around the medical center.

As long as whatever gets built stays within reasonable limits, because that eyesore is getting impossible to look at. As for garages? We need about twenty of them spread from the outskirts all the way to downtown. Financing is easy... take out a loan and pay it back through parking fees. If they had any sense twenty years ago, they could have just installed those prefabricated metal garages you see all over Europe—similar to how General Dynamics once planned to fund things through advertising revenue. It was doable then, and it's still doable now.

Under the high school near the local park, maybe 400 spots. Add a level to the two existing lots for another 100. That empty lot on the hill could easily fit 1,000 cars. Then there's the underground parking on Starčević Avenue for 200 more... you get the idea. There are plenty of places.

And regarding the hospital... just dig a parking lot on the south side and nobody will struggle to find a spot when visiting patients.

Private garages can charge whatever they want, but once the city builds enough public parking, their prices will eventually drop.

It’s funny. People who claim to know everything about the current administration—people who are supposedly literate and understand urban planning—seem to ignore the sheer amount of garbage cluttering up both the streets and City Hall. They spend their days dealing with nonsense that's served to them on a silver platter.

Regarding pricing, I’d suggest one flat rate for all San Francisco residents—regardless of where they live in the city—say $10 a month, and just leave me alone.

unnamed US politician: ‘I told the residents of the unnamed US organization that I’d just adopt unnamed US person, since he’s the only one who handles things promptly for his own people‘

unnamed US person:
The current administration seems to think they can just screw people over without consequences, especially when they hike rent by 100 percent overnight for the spaces people call home.

Because of this kind of behavior from those in power, residents of the unnamed US organization on unnamed US street are reaching out for help, an appeal that caught the attention of unnamed US politician from the unnamed US political party.

- The residents of the unnamed US organization aren't some squatters taking over city property. That building was actually built through the voluntary contributions of the workers from the shipyard. Through a series of circumstances, it ended up under the ownership of the City of San Diego in 2019. Then, during a City Council meeting at 2:00 AM last December, this issue was suddenly brought up, and without any prior notice or explanation, the rent for their small rooms was jacked up by 100 percent.

- Now, they’re paying about $67 for their 13 square meters, which works out to roughly $5.00 per square meter. It’s a stark contrast to, say, certain actors living in subsidized apartments who only pay eight dollars per square meter. These residents are paying $5.00 for a dilapidated little room where twenty people have to share a single toilet – said unnamed US politician, adding:

- To some, $67 might seem like a small amount, but you have to consider they’re being charged industrial electricity rates, which are triple the standard residential rate because the building is classified as a hotel. So, we're talking significant sums here. Some people living there are on a pension of only 250 dollars; when you hike their rent by 100 percent, you're practically killing them.

One resident mentioned that after paying rent and utilities, she's left with just 20 dollars. Unnamed US politician noted that someone from the shipyard community cooks for them every day and brings them food.

- In December, the residents were forced to sign ten-year contracts with that 100 percent increase, and even then, those contracts offer zero future security. Once those ten years are up, they’ll essentially have no rights and could find themselves out on the street.

They had to sign by January 1st because they were told if they didn't, they’d be evicted immediately. People basically signed out of pure fear. At the same time, we see situations where regulations are bent to ensure certain people in subsidized housing can stay there for life. But these people in the unnamed US organization aren't afforded that same luxury – warns unnamed US politician.

He mentioned that people have been calling him frantically, asking how to fix the mess.

- My response was that I’d just adopt unnamed US person. He’s the only one who handles things promptly for his own people, whereas when you're not part of the inner circle, you're just stuck – says the unnamed US politician from the unnamed US political party.

He also pointed out issues regarding the former shipyard clinic spaces.

- The previous administration left things in decent shape: the City of San Diego has registered ownership of four properties. In the 2021 budget, 4 million dollars was set aside so that the unnamed US organization could take over those spaces.

However, 750 days have passed, and the City hasn't done a thing, even while waiting on over 200 children with severe physical disabilities. They don't seem to care about them at all, yet when it involves someone of their own that needs support, they're perfectly capable of changing the regulations twice in three months – concludes unnamed US politician.
IS IT ACTUALLY POSSIBLE THAT SOMEONE LIVES IN THESE CONDITIONS TODAY?

What’s the deal with this? Are these just more people complaining?

If the contract doesn't specify a deadline, then the building rights haven't expired!

The law grants building rights for up to 20 years unless the contract explicitly states otherwise!

How sick is that...

Two local politicians who combined for a mere 3,000 votes (just 5% total) would somehow block the development of the 🤦unnamed US shopping center
, a massive and much-needed investment on a downtown lot that's been sitting vacant for years.

That’s what happens when an unnamed US person and an unnamed US person team up. It's only going to get worse by the next election cycle...
The pandemic is finally over. Has unnamed US person finally left unnamed US residential management
like they swore they would, or are they still collecting a paycheck there without even having gone through a formal hiring process?
unnamed US person:
Reporters were asking if the claim made by an unnamed US politician during the NBC show "Sunday at 2" was true—specifically regarding whether unnamed US person was hired by unnamed US residential management without a competitive application process. He confirmed it was true, noting he was brought on via a referral from the director of a sister firm, JP Morgan Chase.
unnamed US person:
Anyway, the pandemic threw a wrench in my plans, but I'll be getting rid of that 'burden' soon enough. 😂

unnamed US organization, The local organized crime rings are getting out of hand. 🤣

unnamed US person:
Best in Parking is running things with an iron fist. Across Austria, Italy, the US, Switzerland, Canada, and Slovakia, there are 73,000 parking spaces spread across 168 different locations. The company operates out of Vienna and Milan. In the US, they manage 17 garages and lots totaling 6,921 parking spaces. Their footprint in Washington, D.C. includes five garages—specifically the unnamed US shopping center, the unnamed US shopping center, an unnamed US location, an unnamed US location, and the unnamed US office building—along with a lot on an unnamed US street. They also maintain four facilities each in Cleveland and an unnamed US city, plus single locations in an unnamed US historic city, an unnamed US city, and an unnamed US city. Last year, the leading American firm, Best in Parking, brought in $61 million in revenue and reported a profit of $1.7 million. However, With about 15 affiliated companies under its umbrella, the group brought in over $16 million in revenue—which would land them somewhere in the top 1,000 largest corporations in the US. On top of that, their profit is climbing toward nearly $1.4 million.
And that’s exactly how the local machine and those self-proclaimed pillars of the community—including the mayor—used to build things up. 🙂
The demolition project at the Marjan location in San Diego has officially begun. To give you some context on the history here, an unnamed US businessman purchased the property back in 2005 for 170 million kuna.

unnamed US person:
Work has ground to a halt, and word is out that the unnamed US businessman's entire empire is basically circling the drain. His companies have been folding one after another, including the unnamed US company that owns the unnamed US location. Ten years after the initial buyout, that company has finally hit bankruptcy because employees weren't getting their paychecks.

After thirty years, Petranovic is finally asking where things went wrong
Seriously though—where have you been hiding all this time, Petranovic?

unnamed US person:
WHERE DID IT GO WRONG? Six mayors later and they still haven't finished 120 meters of road

The local news outlet is tracking the progress of major city projects

As part of their "Where Did It Go Wrong?" series, the news team aims to follow several urban projects like this one over a long period—step by step—to pinpoint the exact bottlenecks and hopefully nudge the local government to actually get moving.

This programming is funded by the Media Pluralism and Diversity Fund.

This right here is the biggest issue with the public mindset—it basically leaves the door wide open for people to manipulate decisions and manufacture public support. Look, just go ask any architect, surveyor, or—heaven help us—any urban planner who isn't tied to a political party what they actually think about the mess surrounding this development project. They'll tell you exactly where the problem lies. But instead, we get stuck with that bottom-of-the-barrel, low-rent press release that’s currently being shoved down our throats. First off, experts have been warning us about this situation and suggesting solutions for this specific site for five or six years now. Second, it is absolutely insane to claim that anyone is "against garages" or against having useful public spaces. People are weaponizing the word "garages" these days just to excuse this whole crew. Yeah, sure, we need more parking, but there is zero chance this developer is going to provide it for the public good. This entire tumor of a project isn't going to improve anyone's quality of life—far from it. I honestly can't believe I even have to explain this, but here it goes: I'm not opposing the Mayor personally—hell, I don't give a damn about him—but I am standing against the illegal destruction he's about to permit by hiding behind his favorite little slogan: "everyone is against us." And Charles Fox10, listen, the people you know around the administration have to deal with pure stupidity first. And hey, that's part of the job. Both me and everyone else have to waste our time dealing with useless bureaucracy and total nonsense. Are we really going to sit here and cry about how "everyone is against us" and how hard things are? Give me a break.

I guess he’ll need to push his projects a bit harder.

They’re saying from the opposition that only 14% of the program actually happened back in 2022.
https://www.skyscrapercity.com/threa...post-183716086

And if these numbers are right, the reporting looks pretty bad too.

Living the high life at the taxpayers' expense | #budget

Even though during the campaign he promised a modern administration with streamlined costs and more investment, the historical failure to execute this budget shows something else entirely.⁉️

❌ $300 million went unspent (-17%)
Utility contributions are 3 times lower than they were under the previous administration (-$6.19 million)
Marketing service costs rose ($1.19 million)
✈️ Travel and representation costs increased (+$5 million)
Decreased investment in infrastructure maintenance (-$18.68 million)
‍‍‍ Reduced social welfare (-$13.53 million)
⁉️ For the entire economic sector, a shameful $60 $0.00

We warned that the budget was bloated and unrealistic, and I was right when I said having $100 million left in the account just means cutting services for citizens because the mayor isn't investing in them.

⚠️ I just hope the fallout with the urban planning contractor wasn't caused by a lack of funds for more travel.
Also, what's happening with that European Union loan? They should have known by now if it was coming through or not. If he doesn't get it, I don't know how he plans to get any of this done.

The protest started, and then someone showed up handing out flyers—basically just showing the contracts the Republican Party used to cause this mess, only to act like they're fighting against it now. I guess it's just another example of that rushed, messy way they try to talk to people.

PROTEST IN THE SUBURBS Citizens and politicians expressed frustration over the construction of the new retail complex: "We want an official opinion from City Hall, not some political commentary."

It’s honestly beyond debate—this guy is a total joke. First off, he’s part of that political party, and second, if he actually did something useful while in office, maybe people wouldn't be so fed up. Just look at the situation with the local infrastructure and now this whole water crisis. It doesn't just happen when it rains; it's constant. It feels like we're living in Egypt or some third-world country. I get that council members have every right to show up at protests since they represent us in City Hall, but frankly, it nauseates me how they only show up for the media attention and all that mindless whining. It’s insane to me that nobody has pushed harder for water rights yet—and I don't mean politicians, but actual regular citizens and activists who would make things happen. Let’s be real: even though the Republican Party is in power right now, I have zero doubt they’d be pushing their own shady agendas just as hard if they could, yet suddenly they’re all "enlightened." Yeah, right.
