Question: what happens if a specific teacher or professor gets sick? Does that mean they drag both the left and right substitutes from the faculty lounge along with them? 😛

If that actually happens, we’re already short a few professors who need replacing. It's a mess.

How did things play out during the last period?

Languages, on the other hand—no real issue there—she even mentioned she actually prefers that approach.

So what was the actual issue here?

Contacts go in for testing.

In theory, there shouldn't be any gathering in the faculty lounge at all; teachers should ideally show up right before class starts, teach their lesson, and head straight home without lingering. I wonder how realistic that actually is, unless they genuinely enjoy coming home only to spend their evenings drowning in paperwork, grading, and lesson planning.

In Canada they'll be handing out pink slips

Only if they refuse testing—but even those who are vaccinated have to get tested.

Why would anyone even refuse testing?

I don't even get the point... obviously people in the hospital are sick.

I heard somewhere that in Canada they actually hand out home tests to kids, so they have to test every single day......
Those people are just special kinds of idiots

Look, there's no such thing as 100% protection from a vaccine.
When you see stuff being churned out this fast, you really have to wonder how well it's actually being stored, or if they're cutting corners during production and all that junk.

You’re flipping through PowerPoint slides, trying to transcribe everything while the professor is simultaneously explaining things and calling on students... Then I realized I hadn't captured everything from every single slide. Naturally, that meant I also had to gauge how much she actually understood, explain things if necessary, and grade assignments...
With my other subjects online, there wasn't really an issue—in fact, for language classes, she almost prefers this method.

How did things play out during the last period?

Looking back at that period, I guess one way to have avoided that whole mess—where professors were basically forcing mass self-isolations by sitting just to the left or right of someone—might have been different, though I suppose the Secretary didn't specifically mention whether they were sitting opposite or behind them, either.🤣Regarding that whole business about being exposed within two meters, they basically decided on this "solution" where none of the close contacts get sent to quarantine because... well, masks. I guess that's just how they're handling it now.😉😉

I guess it’s just one of those things where sometimes people who come into contact with it end up getting sick, and other times they just don't, which seems to be the way it goes, I suppose.
For the most part, things were pretty cheerful and actually quite interesting, I guess.🎉

Not sure what to say to that. You can do everything just like in-person without having to flip through slides at all.

Of course you get the point. You were the one saying those who are afraid should just go get vaccinated.
But once I bring up the example of someone who’s had two shots and is now stuck in diapers on supplemental oxygen, suddenly you don't get the point?

A teacher and a student. What part of that is confusing? Have you never seen what a video call class actually looks like?

You share your screen, write out the problem, pick a student, they share their screen and solve it—everyone sees everything, everyone hears everything. 🤷

Have any of you actually walked into a school and seen how things work there?

It just doesn't work. As students, we really hate this way of learning, especially when it's for extra help or tutoring. There are constant technical glitches, and too much time gets wasted just trying to share screens and type since most people aren't using touchpads—they're struggling with mice. Plus, like 99% of us don't have great internet, so everything lags. The audio is always out of sync with the video. You just can't do math, chemistry, or physics this way.
We really miss face-to-face classes. Staring at a screen isn't the same thing.

Actually, it's quite realistic! In the staff rooms where I've worked, we always made sure to limit the crowd (maybe 10 people max), and even those little get-togethers only lasted about 10 minutes during the big break. Plus, having folks catch up on paperwork in the lounge doesn't really cause a jam since there are usually only two or three teachers doing admin work while everyone else is busy teaching classes.

Look, I've gotten the point. People are dying every single day. My sister-in-law ended up in the hospital today and we still don't even know what happened...
So now we aren't allowed to breathe because someone got vaccinated and landed in the 😁hospital? Who's to say the shots aren't the reason they're lying there? I know two people who caught Corona right after their shots and now both are dead... died because of the vaccine, so what now?

It's not that I haven't "stepped foot" in a school; I've been doing this all year without a single issue. Wasting too much time sharing screens? That's one mouse click. Come on, find a better excuse.🙄

"Staring at a screen isn't it"? I'd love to hear a student say that just once🤣. You can always write the problem out on paper and just hold it up so everyone can see.

And where exactly is this 99% of people with bad internet living??? Unless you're tucked away in some remote mountain range, it's hard to buy.
