You can't just request a permit for whatever you want... it's limited to two or three basic needs.

And let's be real, there are thousands of legitimate reasons people need to move around in daily life.

So, quite the opposite—with almost every other measure, you can find some workaround for your needs, but when it comes to moving to see someone or go somewhere specific, you simply can't and you aren't allowed to. ☕

Well, fine, let them keep it then. Millions of people have one, so... I guess it's not such a big deal if someone doesn't.

The local county authorities just started loosening things up, mostly because people were breathing down their necks.

From what I can gather, once version 11.5 rolls out, getting an e-government portal permit should be a breeze. It looks like it'll probably be granted to anyone who asks.

So I'm scrolling through Index : Quote right now:

The permits are still a thing.

"We’re going to broaden the criteria for why they're issued. They aren't going away, but we'll expand the scope based on how the epidemic trends look. As for retail, the CDC will be putting together some recommendations. We expect to double down on that," he noted.

He basically explained that if someone is traveling from somewhere like Cleveland down to the coast, they’ll get a permit. So, as he put it, they stay in play, they're just becoming easier to get.

"We aren't rushing this. We’ll lift restrictions as much as possible while maintaining maximum caution," he said a bit later.

Does anyone have a forecast for when they might finally lift the ban on
intercity travel and get those bus lines running again?

Starting May 11th, we should see the intercity bus lines returning to service, and I recall hearing somewhere—though I can't quite place the exact source, my apologies—that they might be updating the e-government portal to include a wider variety of travel justifications. Currently, the options seem limited to just the "essential" ones.

So, basically, once you hit 11.5, everything grinds to a halt. The second you have to justify ANY single move to the machine—why you’re moving and why you even bother—everything stops.

And then they act shocked when people struggle with anxiety.

When will the e-government portal be ready? I have a vacation home on the coast. When and under what specific conditions will the travel restrictions be lifted? I’m traveling alone to my house, driving my own car, and I’ll just be there by myself—maybe with some immediate family. The Prime Minister mentioned hotels providing confirmation for their guests. Who is going to provide that kind of documentation for someone in my situation...

Maybe you should just shoot an email over to the CIA or whatever local agency handles those municipal districts you're dealing with. They really ought to be the ones issuing your permit to you.

I must've missed something here, but are the hotels actually open, or is that just what they're hoping to keep doing through the summer? Seriously, what a joke. They’re dreaming about Americans driving through half the country just to hit our beaches, while simultaneously planning to set up checkpoints at every single turn on the way to the coast. 😵 😵 😵

Look, if you’re having trouble getting your digital credentials sorted on the e-government portal, just tell them you're heading to Mass instead.

The thing is, you *can* apply for a permit for pretty much anything. It's just a matter of whether they actually approve it. I even tried applying for one just to go fishing, and guess what happened...

Honestly, there's no need to send an email. They can just request the permit through the official government portal from the FEMA office in the specific local government unit they plan to visit. Just make sure they name the exact municipality and include a quick sentence or two in the reason for travel explaining why they absolutely have to be in that specific town on that particular day.

Here we go again, making a massive deal out of nothing regarding churches 🤦. Yeah, sure, he got his "permission to attend mass," but he might as well have said he was going to meet a mistress or grabbing BBQ with our legendary Reddit grill master... honestly, it's pretty obvious the people issuing these passes aren't even reading the requests, they're just rubber-stamping everything. I saw the exact same thing a few days ago when I was trying to get one sorted for my dad.

So what’s even the point of having a rule if you can just walk in and grab a permit whenever you feel like it? 😵
The only logic I see here is that after all this chaos, the big shots at FEMA are going to start splitting up disability checks among themselves. You know, because they're all suffering from severe PTSD—or maybe just blisters on their hands from stamping so many damn permits...

It’s pretty easy to connect the dots: they realized they might actually lose their jobs because they aren't doing anything useful, so they just cooked up some busywork so it looks like they're actually working instead of just sitting around drinking coffee all day.

Honestly, we could be cooking up some new job openings for them given how shaky things look right now. I mean, let’s face it—an economic downturn is basically inevitable, the population keeps climbing, and we’re clearly going to see these kinds of outbreaks more often. It just makes sense to build up a specialized workforce ahead of time, rather than scrambling to find someone who actually knows what they're doing when everything starts hitting the fan. 😁

Not that I’m trying to break any rules, but I just took my bike out for a casual ride through the countryside this past Saturday, no special permit required 😁

There were two checkpoints along the way, and honestly, both times the officials seemed completely checked out, just staring at their phones.
Cars were basically just rolling past the checkpoints without even slowing down.
