I've been chilling at home for nine days now; I'm not looking forward to a tenth unless I absolutely have to.😁

I was under the impression we’d receive some kind of official written notice in the mail.

Then, you've got school officials breathing down your neck at home. Plus, what if your kid happens to have it and passes it to a classmate whose grandma or grandpa is really sick? You don't want that on your conscience just because your kid wanted to go to music class. Look, I'm totally against the whole COVID craze, but let's use some common sense here.

Even schools don't report physical abuse that draws blood to the authorities, so I'm honestly worried this might...
State oversight usually only kicks in for major failures in supervision or recurring issues after the Department of Education has already issued warnings. So, if this is just a one-off incident, I highly doubt they'd end up under investigation by the Department of Education.

Come on, stop with the fairy tales. Any physical violence that results in blood is reported directly to the police under standard school safety protocols.
Plus, kids talk! If twenty kids and their parents realize a little guy is being isolated—or if they see him out and about when he shouldn't be—they could report it themselves. And once a social worker steps foot in a house, things get messy fast. Not to mention, imagine if the kid somehow catches COVID because someone in his class had it?! If that spreads to the music room, then the principal is going to have some massive legal headaches on their hands.

The system doesn't clear you until the 19th. Also, if you happen to get pulled over, the police will see in their database that you're officially under quarantine orders...

Some people are just total attention seekers. Honestly, it’s probably why they’ll be so popular in social circles down the road—assuming anyone actually wants to hang out with them. I had two colleagues end up in self-isolation out of nowhere just because one woman bragged about grabbing coffee with another, and then spent five minutes standing shoulder-to-shoulder in the same room. Wow.
Meanwhile, you see the President patting Novak Djokovic on the shoulder during a casual chat, but apparently, that doesn't count as close contact. Most normal people wouldn't even mention those interactions because they are completely trivial...
It's clearly time to be much more selective about who you spend your time with, based entirely on their talent for unnecessary drama. ☕

Me too—that’s how it used to be... you actually get something official in the mail. I mean, it's not like everyone is constantly running to the doctor or hitting up a CVS just to find out things on a whim. Maybe this guy was just worried about getting pulled over by the police, so he went to check? Personally, I probably wouldn't bother checking stuff out unless there was an actual formal notice sent my way.

You don't get anything official at all; you just get a phone call and that's the end of it, which really shows you exactly how the rule of law operates in this country.

Exactly. If it isn’t written down, it basically didn't happen—that seems to be the rule. I mean, are they seriously expecting people to just follow isolation protocols based on a verbal command? Is that how this works now?
In my mind, the logic should be simple: you open an app, plug in your Social Security number, let the system auto-fill the rest of your info, hit print, and you're done. It shouldn't be this complicated.

It’s all just spoken word, yet they use those details to feed some centralized app so the police can track your movements, and suddenly your local pharmacy is flagging you as needing to quarantine or something similar.

This might sound like an absurd question, but I figured I’d ask anyway.

What does the "rule of law" actually have to do with the fact that you only receive a notification if your test comes back positive?
Do people seriously need some notarized, official document with a government seal just to justify staying home for two weeks because they tested positive for the virus?

It seems you aren't quite up to speed on the situation, so let me break it down. Self-isolation is also mandated for anyone who has been in contact with those infected, yet the government doesn't even bother testing those contacts unless symptoms actually show up. In other words, isn't it possible for someone to lose two weeks of their life for absolutely nothing?

Furthermore, this article makes it perfectly clear how much of a gray area we're dealing with:

Of all the failures by the Task Force, the stalling regarding self-isolation orders might actually be the worst.

Quentin:
The core issue here is that these quarantine mandates are being enforced within a legal gray zone, offering no avenue for appeal, while simultaneously leaving citizens vulnerable to heavy fines if they dare to violate them.

To make matters worse, citizens aren't receiving any formal written notice, nor do they have the right to contest the decision. > has confirmed through several interviews with individuals forced into isolation that these official notices simply aren't being issued.

I know, but I really don't feel like messing around with the cops and dealing with the legal system later on.

So, I guess I’m stuck here for the rest of the day, then.
Yeah... 😁

I didn't receive an invitation or anything. I just got a call from my contact letting me know they listed me as a reference.
On top of that, I tested positive for nothing—I came back negative.
True, the only thing keeping me in town was that fine from... $2667It’s just like... $167Nobody’s going to see me at home for two weeks straight, especially since all these mandates and recommendations are nothing more than a complete farce.

It's the exact same thing outside of the hospital system.
What's the actual issue here?

I guess I'm just curious what everyone is specifically complaining about when they talk about this being an unlawful state, especially since nobody has ever actually received an official government notice with a formal seal or anything. 😁

The real issue is that if you're going to restrict someone's personal freedoms—which is essentially what self-isolation acts as, a sort of voluntary house arrest—that individual should at least be formally notified and given a way to appeal the decision.

For instance, if I were infected, nothing would stop me from claiming I was out partying with Gregory Thompson3 until the early hours on Saturday, and just like that, I'd be stuck in isolation through no fault of my own. What exactly are you supposed to appeal when there isn't even an official document telling you that you're under quarantine?

Technically speaking, your freedom isn't actually being restricted.
You can go out whenever you want, but just be prepared for the fact that if the police catch you, they'll hand out a fine. 😁

Self-isolation should really just be seen as a way to protect everyone else from you, provided you test positive or have been around someone who did.

Suppose I happen to be infected; there is absolutely nothing stopping me from claiming I was out late on Saturday hanging with Gregory Thompson3, and suddenly I'm stuck in isolation through no fault of my own. What exactly am I supposed to appeal when there isn't even an official notice telling me I'm in isolation?

It should be stopped by something incredibly common.
It's called common sense.

And honestly, that's exactly what seems to be missing from this discussion. 😁

Is it actually reasonable to throw people in jail for 14 days?
You mention a positive test result, so go ahead and justify why my incarceration was fine, but a negative one wouldn't be.

This whole thing about whether you actually get official paperwork or not is just... confusing. It’s honestly pretty idiotic that you can be stuck in isolation without even having formal proof of it.

Back in the spring, they were actually handing out documents. I know for a fact my dad received his official notice, and the local police even showed up twice to check in on him.
But then last month, my son had to go into isolation because of COVID at his preschool. We got a call from the local health department, and we had to decide which parent would stay home with the kid. My husband ended up doing it—it was officially logged as sick leave for him—which meant I was free to go wherever, even to a wedding if I wanted to... but we never received any actual paperwork, and the police never once came by to check.

Since there are now over 20,000 people stuck in quarantine—which is quite a staggering number, I suppose—they've actually stopped issuing those reading materials, and even the local police aren't really conducting door-to-door checks anymore... mostly because there are just way too many people to manage at this point.

Yeah, I get where you're coming from. It’s just... honestly kind of trippy, and actually pretty messed up, that you could be under some official quarantine order without even realizing it...

I completely agree, though in this country, I suppose even a wooden stove is a possibility.
