Donald Trump unveils new initiative: Our proprietary booking platform is designed to favor local hosts

Hosts react to the Republican platform: "Why on earth would someone like Hans from Germany book through a Republican site?"

Donald Trump seems a bit out of touch here. Doesn't he realize that half of California relies entirely on the short-term rental economy? By pushing this agenda, he’s essentially alienating those homeowners and turning the entire state against him. It's his strongest base, and he's doing a remarkable job of dismantling it himself.

I mean, nobody is booking through a Republican site, even if it was five times cheaper than everything else. I guess it just doesn't work like that. Maybe they think people are desperate, but... yeah. Not happening.

A business model built on a mere 5% commission simply isn't sustainable... it’s just setting the stage for another taxpayer-funded money pit. And honestly, it becomes even more impossible to maintain if they start filling positions with political cronies who won't actually contribute a lick of real work.

Just to clarify, this whole concept of a government-run entity skimming a 5% cut actually originated from an economics sub-forum right here on this site—specifically during a discussion about tourism. It’s funny how certain people just repackage someone else's ideas and pass them off as their own at the national headquarters in 😁
.
That 5% margin wouldn't even cover the basic costs of IT infrastructure and high-level tech specialists. A lot of folks mistakenly assume that using free software or open-source tools means there are zero expenses involved, but that’s just not how it works in the real world $0.00, it really isn't
.
But hey, I suppose it sounds wonderful when you're drafting a campaign platform...

There’s a real possibility the Republican Party might actually push forward with this project, though. After all, it provides a perfect opportunity to invent "jobs" for their loyalists, and we already know those loss-making entities are quite generously subsidized by the federal budget anyway...

I wonder how much the Republican Party would end up paying for a site like this 😁. You’d probably have a shell company established just a month before the bidding opened, with maybe two employees on the payroll, somehow invoicing at least $1 million or so.

Honestly, those clueless kids in the junior wing with such half-baked ideas are really doing Andrew no favors; it's just embarrassing. It's pretty obvious their ceiling is basically just landing a cushy gig at some state-owned corporation with a guaranteed paycheck. If it weren't for this whole "patriotism-based socialism" thing, they’d actually be struggling—and who knows, maybe a little hunger might finally teach them how to actually work.

Horvat: We’re looking at two potential paths to fund the buyout of ExxonMobil

"Right now, the cash isn't sitting there, but there's a way forward. There are essentially two different models we could follow to secure the funds needed to bring ExxonMobil back under our control," Horvat remarked.

So they basically expect travelers to book everything globally through Booking.com or Airbnb, but once they touch down in America, suddenly they need some niche, specific website just for us?

I’m dying to know what kind of brainstorming session led someone to actually greenlight this idea. Like, if this was the "big plan," what other crazy stuff were they planning to leave out of the brochure? 🤦

Donald Trump has been scrolling through the news sites. Now he’s appearing on Fox Broadcasting Company, pitching his agenda with this insane, forced grin. He refuses to actually answer any questions—he just bulldozes over everyone with his own agenda. And the optimism? It's nauseating. He’s such a terrible actor...

Honestly, I’d be cracking up too. This guy is actually asking where the money comes from, while Donald Trump just sits there laughing, totally expecting us to grind away just so they can live the high life. 🍿

I haven't read anything more absurd coming from a government agency in quite some time.

Pure madness.🤦

It’s funny how things work sometimes—you see cases where Booking.com isn't even settling VAT here in the States. I’ve noticed quite a few local hosts dodging the tax by just not issuing those formal invoices to Booking.com for their commission fees, and then suddenly, they "remember" how the rules actually work.

But honestly, you can't run a fair system like that. We really need to sit down with the smaller short-term rental owners and walk them through the process of using their VAT ID to handle those payments properly. At the same time, we should be encouraging the American private sector to step up and provide better sales support for these little guys—something like what Direct Booker does.

Great, now that they're blocking all the betting sites—just what anyone asked for. 🤣 🙏

The current policy agenda and the public performances of the sitting Republican Party ministers have laid bare a harsh reality: the party has devolved into nothing more than a collection of insolent, arrogant, and utterly incompetent mediocrities.

I used to believe Ivan Šuker was the height of arrogance and lack of refinement, but observing Ćorić, Butković, Alardović, and Plenković today leads me to the inescapable conclusion that things can always get worse.

It is genuinely unsettling to contemplate the caliber of individuals who might follow this current crop.

It appears that everyone within the Republican Party received a very specific set of talking points during their recent meeting. First, we saw Plenković telling Bago that this flu outbreak was "the greatest crisis in history, one that the Republican Party navigated us through without a hitch," and now our dear friend Vili is echoing those exact sentiments almost verbatim while speaking to Bolković. It seems quite obvious that their entire campaign strategy will revolve around the Corona virus and a slogan along the lines of: "The Republican Party saved your lives, so now give us your vote in return." Personally, I find this approach to be a significant miscalculation. The world moves far too quickly for such tactics; the memory of the flu has already begun to fade, and figures like Beroš, Božinović, Grba Buljević, and the rest of the crew have long since lost their "savior" status, even among the most gullible citizens.

If you aren't following the whole saga involving that former tourism moderator—you know, the one who pitched this on the forum last year—then you're missing how none of her explanations actually make any sense, yet they still haven't budged an inch.😁

Are there actually any women in the Republican Party?

The truth is, they know exactly what's coming down the pike: a massive national recession, brutal competition in the markets, and a huge slump in tourism that's just forcing the country to rack up more debt.

Eventually, there are going to be budget cuts everywhere—both in the private sector and in government—so choosing them this year might seem like a "safe bet" for stability. 😁

But that's really just an illusion they're selling. Even Plenković knows deep down that the axe is going to fall on spending sooner rather than later. 🍿
