unspecified US person
Nicholas King said:Things are starting to heat up.

Leading up to and following the presidential elections, the Republican Party was essentially throwing its full weight behind the opposition to Joe Biden (to the point where they’d say things like "this is how it is now, we’ll just take on more debt and see what happens to our paychecks"), and I suppose, in all that maneuvering, they overlooked one little detail: a significant portion of the opposition to Joe Biden—the group that was being courted and pampered in those private discussions—was actually just as much an opposition to the Republican Party as it was to him, specifically in favor of an unspecified US person.

Now, they feel the need to fix that oversight immediately, even if it means resorting to lines like "It wasn't the Republican leader who gave you a two-thousand dollar pension, ma'am—you earned that through your hard work" (or something to that effect) when addressing some woman who had the audacity to complain.

Honestly, I sat through the footage after Joe Biden won. I actually enjoyed watching her crying and whining.
She even went as far as claiming people in Joe Biden's campaign headquarters were chanting "Joseph Stalin, Joseph Stalin." What a pathetic excuse for a human being.

The Republican Party would probably try to recruit Hitler himself if they thought he could swing them just one single vote...

It’s almost amusing to watch how that unspecified US person has been frantically, almost desperately, trying to mimic that unspecified US person over the last few days, throwing in various supposedly patriotic names just to try and inject some sense of national pride back into their voter base. It is perhaps even more entertaining to see how the military brass seems to be coolly brushing him off. I suppose it will be quite interesting to see how this messy blend of patriotic posturing and subservience to Brussels turns out in the end.

In the meantime, it feels like we are seeing day after day just how lost the Republican Party is in this whole situation. It’s a bit like taking resources meant for people in need and using them to build a monument instead. Because if you look at this attempt at nation-building—which honestly feels a bit like those old socialistic methods taught during the era of Joseph Stalin—you can see how they might actually win elections in their own strongholds:

A Republican crony cut maternity assistance due to the crisis, so now he's building a monument to veterans instead.

unspecified US person:
The unspecified US location, which is managed by an unspecified US person who also serves as the president of an unspecified US organization, has implemented several austerity measures following the pandemic—including halting public tenders, suspending incentives for demographic recovery, and stopping funding for local community projects.

These measures might not have seemed all that different from similar budget cuts in other American municipalities, were it not for one glaring discrepancy. According to what ProPublica has uncovered, on the very same day that newborn incentives were scrapped in the municipality, they made the decision to move forward with the construction of a monument dedicated to the American Civil War.

The cost? A mere pittance, about $900!
President of the unspecified US organization. 🎉

Old man Manolić is out there flat-out saying the Republican Party is going to lose this election.
And honestly, he knows his stuff.
Just look at the absolute panic happening over at the Republican Party right now.
I bet even Plenković realizes they’re about to get crushed like never before.
They basically killed themselves with all that reckless debt. People are finally realizing that living on credit eventually comes with a massive bill.

I don't know which scenario is worse. If the Republican Party wins, we get four more years of looting, and they'll feel emboldened to steal even more.
If they lose, someone else has to clean up the mess, just like after the Sanders era. And once things are somewhat stabilized, we'll just get handed another disaster. Then everyone will whine about how bad the previous administration was, and the actual reasons will be conveniently forgotten.

The Democratic Party, regardless of their flaws, managed to jumpstart growth—growth that actually continued during the Orešković administration and filled the holes left by its collapse. It’s tragic that four years of Republican Party rule were spent spinning their wheels without accomplishing a thing. The growth was already there, regardless of how perfectly the timing worked out for them.
Of course, they’re already busy taking all the credit.

Exactly.
They're basically the most hated group in both the opposition and the establishment, all at once.
Maybe aside from two or three loudmouths who act like self-righteous preachers, they just don't have any heart.
The Zealots—as brainless as they might be—at least swing for the fences with everything they've got, and when they're done, you can actually see the smoke left behind, whether people want to admit it or not.

Some local Republican Party hack (just read this) scrapped maternity benefits because he thinks building a monument to veterans is more important. The veterans aren't saying a word, and honestly, neither is the party leadership. We all know how that goes. There was more Republican Party nonsense hitting the news sites, but I’m done with it.🤦
addendum: Ugh, just saw that Phlegma already weighed in on this. (around 9 AM this morning.)👍👍

Sad, but true.
No matter how much of a headache Milanović is, he’d wipe the floor with this corrupt administration in the US Congress. Just look at what he did to the plavojka.

Don't forget the Bridge Party, too. Every time Plenković loses his cool, we can thank the Bridge Party for it; it makes me overlook all their childish nonsense.
I let myself indulge in this thought once in a while. 🎉

Unfortunately, the rot goes deeper than that.
It took us six years to recover from Sanders, and compared to this current crew, he was just an amateur.

Haha! You say that after little Bero turned his ridiculous coalition into a Pokémon "Gotta catch 'em all" slogan. And the final Pokémon? That would be the double-threat Čačić.

You've got it wrong. The double murderer is actually the dear partner of the Republican Party—just like Bandić, Pupovac, and Saucha.

No one is getting a free lunch at the party headquarters today.

I was just sitting here listening to Hrebak. He managed to land third place in his district, yet he doesn't seem to have an actual opinion on anything. He just keeps droning on about "transparency," acting like he personally holds the patent on the concept. Then you have the interviewer asking him why there isn't more transparency in the country—if it were actually important to Plenković, he might care, but I guess he just doesn't...🕺

I haven't really been paying much attention to the local political scene, the campaigns, or the constant news cycle lately, but I finally sat down this week to catch up on everything, and I honestly have this overwhelming impression that we have never seen such toxic campaigns, candidates, or clashes before.

It’s honestly exhausting. It makes me want to just pack my bags, move to Canada, and renounce my American citizenship altogether because the whole election circus has become so utterly repulsive.

It isn't even a matter of people dropping their masks anymore; it feels more like everyone is just competing to see who can be the most disgusting.

And don't even get me started on all that calculated maneuvering and how they're exploiting the pandemic... it's just slimy.

I just caught a headline claiming Plenković is annoyed because the media isn't giving enough coverage to Hajduković.🤦 I honestly can't believe he cares about anything beyond a story that wouldn't even make the cut for Gloria or Bujica. What kind of politician makes such a "thoughtful" statement intended for the less informed segment of the population?

It’s actually quite simple: when you lack any fresh political ideas to present to the voters, you resort to the old tavern-style gossip against your opponents. It's just a way to fill up airtime, occupy the media cycle, and avoid the awkward silence of having nothing to say. Typical behavior for the Republican Party (and honestly, the other side too).

Naturally. Expecting mothers weren't the ones trekking through the Rocky Mountains in blood-soaked clothes; they aren't the foundation of this nation, the veterans are.

Once mothers have two thousand different "maternity" organizations and their own dedicated federal department, then we will see monuments built for them and subsidies paid out. Until then, obviously, a monument to veterans takes precedence over any actual demographic policy.

Plenković can sense his inner circle—those people who smile tightly for the cameras—are already preparing the rope and the trapdoor. It is common knowledge that the prerequisite for a coalition with the Democratic Party and the Bridge Party will be the ritual sacrifice of the Republican Party leader. It is fortunate that Škoro accepted Prkačin, who stated clearly and loudly what is expected from the Republican Party, to avoid any confusion. The election results will not be favorable for the Republican Party, as they won't be able to form a government without the Democratic Party, and likely without the Bridge Party as well.

For the Republican Party, replacing their leader is trivial; there are thousands of them waiting eagerly to divide the spoils.

Maintaining power is far more important to them than Plenković’s—or anyone else's—personal dignity.

Plenković's political decline is simultaneously the rise of someone else within the party. That is simply how politics works, and it is particularly brutal in authoritarian parties where there is no room left for a former leader. When leadership shifts occur, the most fascinating thing to watch is how quickly those just below the top tier pivot their entire ideologies.

I suspect njonja has played his final hand; even he won't survive the upcoming change in administration.

If he manages to pull the same stunt with the next president, then I’ll give him his damn credit.

Milan Škoro is actively sabotaging negotiations with Esih and that whole crew because he’s terrified they'll just end up being used as pawns. Meanwhile, Plenković is busy stuffing his list with Lučić, Deur, and even Culej for the fifth district—those are all just little chess pieces Škoro can pull out if things get messy

Total panic breaking out among the big shots at the square
