That was the day a part of me died. Any shred of desire I had to study Religious Studies just blew away in the wind 🙂.

Still, whenever I'm feeling particularly low, I just wish all those people who jump in to lecture others on problems they've never actually lived through—which is a huge factor—could just step into my shoes for one single day. Just one of my worst days.
After that, honestly, I wouldn't give a damn what anyone thinks 😈.

So, you took a class in the psychology of religion and now you're just asking nonsense instead of actually answering our questions? What a troll. 🤣

Guilty as charged.
I spent exactly two years studying religious studies 😳.
(Yeah, the same degree DoA finished 😁)

And honestly? I picked up some pretty "useful" insights along the way.
1. Mental illness is just all in the patient's head.
2. People are mentally unwell because they aren't devout enough.
3. If they prayed for a cure and nothing happened, clearly they just didn't pray hard enough. More prayer required.
4. Pills, doctors, therapy... yeah, it's all nonsense.
5. Church, church, Church, God Jesus, prayer, healing.

That’s basically the whole curriculum.
Now you're an expert too, huh? 😳

🎉

Now I just need to go out and buy a diploma so I can become a religion teacher. 🤣

In my generation, most of the girls enrolling in those programs were basically lost causes. Either they started out that way, or they pivoted during their freshman or sophomore year. Some ended up joining cults. I know a girl who left that school and went straight into that sect over in the Czech Republic or Canada—the one founded by some Korean guy or some shady character... I can't recall the name, but I Googled it once and found out they had these mass weddings where hundreds of couples would marry at once. Of course, the guru would pick your spouse based on some "karma-dharma" logic. Apparently, that was supposed to bring peace to the world, but she bailed before they could marry her off, which is probably why we still don't have world peace. 😵

They have some pretty clever tactics for recruiting people into that cult... first, they approach you talking about world peace and hand you flowers or something. Then, they lure you away to some remote ranch in the middle of nowhere. After that, they spend days telling you how incredible you are, how everyone loves you, how Jesus loves you, and how special and perfect you are. Once you're hooked, they slowly start brainwashing you until you sign over all your assets to them. Quite the crowd. 😁

I am not entirely sure why, but I feel compelled to point out that you are interpreting a text that lacks any context for you. From what I can gather, Diego is struggling immensely with schizophrenia.

Prayer is nothing more than a placebo.

That was not my intention, so you have reached an unfavorable conclusion. We shall not dwell on trivialities like "you don't understand me"

Mind youuu.
While the professor—who’s basically part shaman, part exorcist (but seriously, he's our best 🧐)—was rambling on about his stuff, I was just this terrified 20-year-old girl dealing with brutal panic attacks, feeling like I wasn't even from this world.

I walked into that building as a Catholic who barely practiced anything outside of an occasional prayer or celebrating Christmas, and walked out as a theistic agnostic wondering how all these grown men managed to brainwash themselves into playing the exact same loop over and over. 🤷

Schizophrenia isn't something you "cure," it's more about maintaining a certain quality of life (which, sadly, is way below normal for some patients). A chunk of people with schizo lose their ability to work; it's such a cliché, easy, high-profile thing to talk about.
But we aren't talking about freaking panic attacks here. We're talking about a genetically transmitted mental illness, arguably the worst one out there.
(Because you're fully aware of what's happening, yet you can't help yourself during the times when you're definitely not aware.)

Of course. Let us not dwell solely on this—genetically transmissible mental illness... communication breakdowns🍿
It just so happens that others haven't switched on the right light for you...
Read A Scanner Darkly... it is profoundly instructive.

How is schizophrenia diagnosed?

Diagnosis is determined through psychiatric interviews with the patient and their family members. To this day, there are no laboratory diagnostic tests for schizophrenia.

Personality collapses happen to many, nearly everyone...

The "we" is merely a construct built around genes...

Well, I hope you have a psychotic episode then.
It’s easy for you to talk big when things are simple, but people on meds? They're just weaklings who can't even control their own bodies. Total losers. ☕

🤣 I live within it... and I am having a hell of a time.

No... one should take medication if it provides relief, certainly, but one ought to consult a medical professional rather than some local charlatan or fortune teller.

Slow down your response time. Re-read what you have actually written before posting; let's not waste our collective time on such trivialities.
Furthermore, it is by no means simple. You have raised an incredibly compelling subject regarding the logic inherent in delusions. 🙂

I’m pretty sure there isn't a single person out there with schizophrenia who does better by skipping their meds 🤔.

Man, we literally covered this a few pages back. Is reading that much of a struggle? 🙂

For guys dealing with schizophrenia, the suicide attempt rate hits 60%.

How can you sit there and casually claim this is easy?

Well... one really has to wonder about the underlying cause—or more accurately, what exactly constitutes the substance of their episodes.

I am fundamentally lazy, though I maintain an uncompromising commitment to precision; I have a deep-seated aversion to generalizations, except, perhaps, when they are applied partially.

Brandon Lopez6 As specified by Jerry Robinson56:
The statistics regarding schizophrenia among men are quite grim; one faces a sixty percent suicide attempt rate. It is a staggering figure, though perhaps not entirely unexpected when one considers the sheer weight of such a diagnosis on the psyche.

It leads one to wonder... what is the true catalyst behind suicide? I have lost several friends to this particular darkness. I wouldn't go so far as to label their struggles as mere paranoia or schizophrenia; rather, it was simply the weight of life itself.
Suicide is essentially a form of self-inflicted harm, isn't it?

What constitutes an easy versus a difficult measure? It is a question that demands more than a superficial answer.
If you can endure enough of life’s tribulations while maintaining a steady diet of finely grated Stoicism and subtle Buddhist undertones—all while remaining creatively engaged—you might actually find yourself capable of broadening your smile.

Given the pace at which you're moving, I’d say they have completely miscalculated your potential.

I’m not gonna repeat myself since I just laid this all out a few pages back. Seriously, man, you're asking the same unoriginal questions. If you actually want the answers (and the links), just scroll back 🙂.

Good grief...
there is no need for repetition,
we have drifted far from the subject at hand.
here is yet another classic example

No—you aren't a complete picture. You are a mosaic. Think of it like a mandala... constructed one painstaking step at a time.

Just life...

This brings us back to that whole concept of believing in oneself (and the math 😁); slowing down and exercising controlled inertia can actually be beneficial when dealing with intelligent societies

I mean, honestly, it feels that way 😳.

Personally, I’m convinced I’m dealing with some kind of hypomania or whatever, but unfortunately, I don't have any profound, deep-space insights about the battle between good and evil 🕺.
Just saying, I'm pretty dim even when I'm totally losing my mind 🙂.

Brandon Lopez6, you and Jerry Robinson56 basically think the same way—you just can't communicate with each other, which is the whole joke here. I was laughing while reading this... 🤣
