Should you stick to your roots when you move away?

Look at how Aborigines and Indians deal with this even today. Why shouldn't Australians or Americans face the same reality? In fact, it's already happening to Americans. If you aren't speaking Spanish in a third of the USA, you're dreaming if you think things stay the same.

You should definitely hold onto your traditions, but you also have to play the game and act right according to whatever new situation you find yourself in.
There are plenty of ways to do this, whether it's through cultural clubs, hometown associations, or just hanging out with people who share your background, where you can really nurture those old-school customs from back home while still embracing the general social norms of the place you've moved to. The whole point is that an immigrant should have the chance to keep their own identity without being unable to fit into the new society. By the second generation, let alone the third, people pretty much fully adopt the behaviors of their new surroundings, so that’s why I think it's so important to cherish those old ways. Anyone who truly cares about themselves is going to make sure they keep their roots alive.

Do what you want inside your own home.
But out in public, mind your manners.
