Oh, sure, I’m clearly the suspicious one here 🙂—as if being at a different JPMorgan Chase branch to activate a new card, check my balance, and move some funds
would actually trigger an investigation... nobody even blinked. Honestly, I think I’ll just stick to that location from now on, rather than dealing with my usual branch where my personal banker—and her manager—constantly hover over me with all these unnecessary questions ☕

Since we apparently already know everything there is to know about those banking types
, they seem to think they need to dive even deeper into our lives...

It’s happening again 🙂
First, yesterday my personal banker—who I never actually requested nor even particularly need 🙄—calls me up to insist I come in and sign some questionnaire...
I told her straight out that I was just there back in December and provided everything they needed, and since nothing has changed, there’s really no reason for me to trek down there just to sign more papers...
Then today, they call regarding the business account, threatening to shut it down entirely unless I show up to fill out more forms and jump through their hoops... Has anyone actually had an account closed just for refusing to comply with this nonsense? 🤷
If not, let me know, so I can be certain about sending them straight to hell next time

This is standard procedure.
They’ll shut it down because you aren't meeting the basic terms of service.

The last time some lady from the bank called me, I told her flat out that the idea of coming into a branch just to answer a bunch of questions wasn't even on my radar. If my address and phone number aren't enough for them, they can go ahead and close the account.
Stop harrassing me.

Funny how you don't have to jump through hoops in Canada, but in this absolute dumpster fire of a country called America, everything is a struggle.

Read more carefully—I was asking if anyone else has had their account closed after refusing to complete a survey ☕ specifically regarding JPMorgan Chase

I was just reading about that situation in Canada where a woman had her accounts frozen, and it really makes you wonder—have we seen anything quite like that happening here in the States yet?

Actually, you do. It's just not required for certain smaller institutions.

Plus, you've got a bunch of US banks just automatically sharing their info exclusively with Canada... For everyone else under FATCA, they only cough it up if there's an actual request...

Every single time I've gone to pull cash at the bank, they never even asked for my ID—just my PIN. I definitely wasn't handing over any extra data like what they demand back home. This was at Bank of America.

Why all the panic?
My bank started asking me those same ridiculous questions every single time lately too...
Seriously, every single time...
The trick is to just tell them you want a formal written request sent to you...
Once it arrives, just tear it up...
Then, when they try to grill you at the branch again, just ask for a written request once more...
After that, nobody sends you anything anymore... and they'll leave you alone for good...

Honestly, they keep calling me 🙂—and once I tell them that’s not how things work, they just pivot to my business account the very next day. At this rate, I expect that instead of my local teller, the branch manager will be calling me tomorrow to recite some long-winded lecture... and they’ve already started with those hollow threats about closing my accounts entirely 🙂

Honestly, when you get pushed into a corner like that, you just end up standing there looking totally baffled—like, why even bother being surprised when the whole thing is such a circus anyway?

The bottom line is we’re nowhere near catching up to the rest of the West, yet we’re acting like we've already arrived.

I would argue the situation is actually quite the reverse. By joining NATO, we essentially handed over our sovereignty—allowing the US to dictate terms and engage in exactly this kind of behavior...
for instance, having banks demand people show up at branches just to sign paperwork proving they aren't US citizens
and if you refuse, you find yourself facing the IRS and their relentless pursuit of unpaid taxes...🙂
