JP Morgan Chase asked me questions that they legally didn't even have to ask, I think. Maybe they don't anymore, though.

Seriously, JPMorgan Chase went totally off the rails with their questions—at least with my paperwork back about three months ago. They basically gave me an ultimatum, which is a huge "no thanks" from me as a customer. So yeah, I moved my entire business elsewhere.

Steven Rivera76 said:That isn't quite right. Like I said, I sent an inquiry to Kill regarding the letter itself and the process of closing the account. I am closing it and moving to a different bank. I haven't picked one yet, but it certainly won't be JP Morgan Chase—I have no desire to deal with idiots like manager1 again. :-)
But does that mean these threats about making my funds inaccessible should just go unremarked and unreported?

Looks like I totally misread the room, probably because I didn't word things great. My point wasn't a personal attack on anyone here; I was talking about the general attitude of Americans as a whole. There's way too much talk and not enough action. The people actually stepping up and doing something are the minority.

Keep in mind that closing an account means severing ties with the entire bank—not just the one account, but every single product you have with them. And like I mentioned before, if there are any outstanding debts, the bank will demand immediate full payment.

How fascinating... the bank decides on its own whim to lock my account—denying me access to the very money I entrusted to them—all because of some irrelevant demands that lack any actual legal basis.😵
Is there a moderator available to address this nonsense from the host? 🙂 She keeps drifting away from the point, providing incorrect information, and instead of addressing the actual subject at hand...
we find ourselves debating her trolling posts...
I will restate the question:
If JPMorgan Chase closes my account, will I be permitted to visit a branch and withdraw the full balance that was held in the account?

That’s just total nonsense, honestly... they won't do a damn thing... I mean, my brother actually just switched banks, and you can really see which pieces of info are actually necessary and which ones are just fluff when things get tense. 😁

They tried to corner him about that whole mess, and he was just like, fine, I'm not giving you anything, go ahead and freeze all my accounts then. The story changed in a heartbeat, like, suddenly they didn't need all that stuff, just give me this one little thing... he wouldn't budge, he just closed everything down and moved his money over to JPMorgan Chase. 🍿

Even the "famous" Reuters hasn't been signed by every single country on the planet.
And besides, this whole thing only matters to what Americans care about.
Did anyone actually bother to ask us if we want our government signing off on this?

Personally, I couldn't care less about them. If they're so obsessed, they should just hire more people for their intelligence agencies instead of having banks force data down our throats.

The US did adopt FATCA (Type 1), which is an international agreement that basically overrides "local" laws. I guess nobody really asked us, just like they didn't ask about NATO or sending weapons to the Middle East. We aren't exactly a fully sovereign nation, but maybe that's not even the point here.
The real issue is that banks act like they haven't even read the laws they're citing.

https://www.treasury.gov/resource-ce...-3-20-2015.pdf

Accounts not Required to be Reviewed, Identified, or Reported
+ A Depository Account with a balance of $50,000 or less.

So, accounts under $50,000 aren't even subject to FATCA oversight. If you have less than $50k and they bring up FATCA—they're lying, I guess.

So much noise and drama over just a few extra questions?
If it’s such a big deal, why haven't you switched banks yet instead of just sitting there waiting?
Look, if this irritates you this much—if you truly believe they're violating your rights or breaking the law—then just close the account and move on, or file a lawsuit. Simple as that.

And like someone else already pointed out, let's look at the big picture regarding banks. They aren't going to lose sleep if a handful of people with average or below-average incomes walk away. Of course, if you were a VIP client with massive assets, you'd be having a completely different conversation. 👍

Exactly—my friend transferred some decent cash $33 from her husband's account, so they called her up pretty damn quick to ask what was going on...

It’s ridiculous—the woman bought a little BTC, and suddenly this massive bank is acting all concerned about pennies... 😁

Honestly, banks are just living in the past—they haven't realized it yet—just mindless zombies... 😉

It’s not even about his turnover, I mean, that’s exactly why I’m asking... what kind of "VIP client" is he supposed to be? For crying out loud, his annual revenue is barely around $30k. 🤣

And don't even get me started on that guy from Chicago and how he's pulling cash out of those land sales. 🤣 🤣

I already told you
.I'm just waiting for them to block a measly twenty bucks so I can tear them apart. 😁

You still haven't answered my previous question, so let's see who the real idiot is here. 👍

People are honestly overstepping way too much lately, sticking their noses where they don't belong. Pretty soon, you’ll be working at a gas station or a print shop doing the exact same thing you did at Chase—where nobody asks you a single question. They’ve completely lost the plot; there’s zero point in keeping money in an account if the interest you earn is basically swallowed up by service fees. It feels like anyone can just come along and grab what they want; your cash isn't even truly yours when it sits there. Plus, now the government is looking over your shoulder at every cent you make and spend (just to prevent some massive corporate bailout or a disaster like the ones we saw with big retailers failing). Every time someone tries to tell me "you have to do this," I make it my mission to prove that I absolutely don't. Let them crash and burn

Does JPMorgan Chase even realize what kind of customer service approach you're promoting? I wouldn't say it's their official policy, but we could always ask them directly. ☕

They called her because they had to verify if she actually intended to buy that stuff. Transactions like that are often flagged because they look like cybercrime or unauthorized withdrawals.

Either that, or her $100 $0.00 messed up their balance so badly they'll have to sell off some real estate just to break even. 😁

I’ve already told you this before.
I'm just waiting for them to block my hundred bucks so I can tear them a new one.
People like you have been handed scripted answers long ago.
"Due to non-compliance with regulation X, we were forced to terminate your checking account agreement..."

There are so many idiots on this forum. Me? I’ll tell them exactly what’s on my mind and see how they like it.

If they have these scripted replies, why haven't they sent them yet? They're dragging their feet. And let me be clear—we aren't talking about a simple notice to close a checking account. We are talking about a bank threatening to seize assets.

Just sitting here waiting for them to write back and tell me I can't touch my own hundred bucks because I won't fill out some random form that has nothing to do with me. They already have all my info. As for the IRS stuff, honestly, who cares? I'm sitting way under that $50k threshold anyway.😁.

Could you maybe list exactly which questions are on that form? It's pretty important.

Look, there are plenty of answers to what you're asking right here. It's all in that old thread someone posted on this forum ages ago.

But that's just that old 2015 questionnaire... I was wondering what the new version looks like now, maybe after they got called out.
And I'm also curious if they still ask for total income, or just the part being used for the bank business.

What does Chase have to do with this? 🤣

Explain to me how, why, and based on what specific reasoning my previous point is incorrect. Argue your position. I know exactly where my facts are coming from, so I'm genuinely curious about the basis for your claim that I'm wrong.👍
