The sheer nerve is unbelievable. After America spent over a millennium building its foundation on reason through Christian faith, we have these bold individuals spitting on our entire heritage while claiming they only care about logic and science. They try to monopolize both, acting as if everyone else is either dim-witted or unstable, and they're the only ones who are sane and smart. You can only reach such a narrow view of logic and a stripped-down, sanitized version of science to support an atheist worldview. It makes me wonder: do atheists believe this because they're being arrogant, or have they simply not thought deeply enough or read nearly enough books?

Science has absolutely nothing to do with atheism. Seriously. And what exactly are these "inconvenient" parts people keep talking about?

Do they actually believe it? And if so, what’s the deal with that emphasis on "believe"? You could have played it a bit more subtle.

The description of killing children there is pretty damn explicit, isn't it? You don't exactly need to be Einstein to grasp the meaning when it says God is going to pass through the houses and slaughter every firstborn, yet here you are, trying to wiggle out of it however you can.

I think you're missing the weight of what it means to lose a firstborn, and you're missing the true significance of the Exodus. It feels like you're looking at this too literally without grasping the historical context. Without that background, the whole story gets lost in the details.

If you're just going to cherry-pick one tiny little thing from my post, then why bother quoting it at all?

Do you actually have any evidence to back those claims up? This idea about reason being built on Christianity? 🤣
Oh, sure, it's because for "more than a thousand years," the brave souls and "heretics" who dared to present the very reason mentioned above were burned at the stake and hunted down! The Church is nothing more than an institution designed for mass manipulation, and religions are basically just fairy tales for children, the weak-willed, or the indecisive. There isn't a single credible explanation out there besides "I know the truth, just trust me or you'll go to hell," whether we're talking about the tiny details of how and what that God used to create the universe, or how on earth could we possibly know, or even the whole explanation of Jesus being the Son of God (seriously, as a bare minimum, I'm curious about his anatomy when he appeared 😬) and so on and so forth!

And don't even get me started on the millions of people slaughtered in the name of various religions, from the Crusades to various jihads and everything in between!

And yet, you still walk around thinking you're so incredibly smart. And so moral.

It’s not like Jesus wiped them all out. Besides, what does he have to do with morality? The whole concept of morals really just popped up as a way to show that people don't need some divine enlightenment to follow the rules of the society they live in.

I don't get what the big deal is about killing a firstborn. Seriously? Do you even read your own nonsense before you post it?

That’s enough. There’s no point in reading further; this just shows how little you actually know. You’re talking about reason and heretics? Your side is so desperate to prove the unprovable that your only "hero" left to burn is Bruno, and let's be honest—without getting too political—the man was a madman. And yet, you use a lunatic as the personification of your logic. 🤣 🙏

Better walk away from this debate while you still can. 🙂

Of course you don't understand, since you haven't bothered to feed the intellect you claim is so full of knowledge and facts.

Here is a little lesson for today: in the ancient world, particularly in the Middle East, firstborn sons were traditionally highly valued in both social and religious contexts. They were seen as the vital link between the family and the divine. During lean times or famines, food was always prioritized for them, and everyone else got whatever was left. The death of the firstborns, while tragic in any context, was a devastating moral blow to the Egyptians because it signaled that the divine had judged them—that the connection to the afterlife had been severed. Back then, that was a terrifying thought.

Look, I believe in God, but I wouldn't call myself a religious person. To my mind, all organized religions feel somewhat deceptive; I just can't find a sense of belonging in any of them. I’ll occasionally head to church if my family nudges me enough, but I don't feel anything when I'm bowing before those statues. I know plenty of believers who are nothing more than greedy or malicious, people who convince themselves that every misfortune they've earned is actually the work of the devil or some sort of curse placed on them by others. What I find most grating, though, is when someone dismisses a situation by saying, "It'll be fine, God willing." I don't hold much stock in an afterlife—no heaven, no hell. There is simply good and evil, good people and bad ones. You just have to decide who you're going to be and do everything in your power to make this world a paradise, rather than just daydreaming about some utopia waiting for you after you die.

The religion section is just a bit further down, and you'll find several threads there already tackling this exact topic.
As a side note, we generally don't care for discussions that start by labeling an entire group of people without offering anything more substantial than "I think" or "in my opinion"... those aren't really welcome here.
