Just walk in every morning with a massive grin, wish her a good morning, ask how she’s feeling, or compliment her sweater. 🙂 Don't let her grumpy little remarks get under your skin. If she starts acting up, just toss out a quick, "Oh, are we in a mood again today? Such a beautiful day outside, though! 😁" Create some actual momentum in the office. Crack a few jokes so even the most high-strung coworkers can't help but laugh. Drive that old lady insane with nothing but positivity!

To be perfectly honest, I’m just not the type of person who thrives on playing dirty pranks, and I’m quite certain I wouldn't have the heart to pull off anything truly malicious. Besides, descending to that level seems beneath me—it's really the last thing I’d want to do. 🤷

Not a chance. I don't even know what her other coworkers are really like yet—for all I know, they could be just as bad. Honestly, there’s a real possibility she’s just gonna dig herself even deeper into this mess.

I read all the posts, but it was afternoon, so I can't be 100% sure what I remember.

1. OP, you’ve apologized for your job several times now—stop doing that. Why? Because people think your work is easy? Or because they think only those who perform manual labor deserve a paycheck? Not every job requires breaking your back. Still, your role comes with its own set of responsibilities. You have zero reason to feel guilty just because you aren't digging trenches.
2. Some kind of group protest against this person—I need to remind myself if she's actually your superior or not—won't work. People are too fearful these days. No one is going to step up for you, or maybe only one person will, and that isn't enough. Seriously, drop any idea about organized resistance against her.
3. How much does your job depend on her? Meaning, could she actually get you fired if she wanted to? Regardless of your answer, my conclusion is the same: if she wants you gone, she will make it happen whether you fight back or not, simply because you bother her. Even if your job isn't tied to her directly, she still won't like you.
4. When relationships turn toxic, you have to leave. They don't fix themselves. NEVER. Now, I would normally suggest finding a new job, but I won't—because you'll find someone just like her everywhere else. If you generally like your job, stay put.

The bottom line? Try to let her know, as much as possible, that she can't push you around. And if you can, do it privately. I can't give you a specific script, but whatever you do, do not embarrass her in front of others. Try to spot a mistake in her work and point it out to her—again, strictly one-on-one. Essentially, you need to show her that her attempts at blackmail won't work. Let her know you are "strong" and willing to use that strength if necessary. Why bother trying to bond with a group of people who are clearly terrified of one woman acting like she owns the place? She’s acting way above her station just because she landed a management role. It’s ridiculous how much power she thinks she has over everyone already.

Just focus on your work and move on. If you've really had enough, don't vent to us—take it straight to the CEO. They aren't stupid; they can handle the truth. Honestly, grab a voice recorder or use your phone to document what's happening. Once you have actual proof of her behavior, hand it to the boss and let them decide if they really want someone like that running their team.
