LOL, they stayed back in the States without even having their own national network, yet here he is trying to lecture us.

And what kind of law actually lets him broadcast here instead of hiring people from right here in America?

Richard Wilson4 said:And why wouldn't they set up headquarters in Chicago if this is all meant for America? Might as well let our people make some money.

Aren't you guys basically defending the whole Region just because of the money and the economy?

Look, I don't know why the HQ is there—honestly, that's totally beside the point for what we're actually talking about here.

Well, it might not be important to YOU.

But it matters to me when someone is operating right here in America without actually hiring any Americans.

If the boss is more interested in favoring people from Mexico, fine. But he should at least hire Americans instead of people from the Republic of Mexico to do the work.

Look, I’m all for a free market. Everyone should have the right to invest in America, period. But this whole idea of someone planning to launch a TV station over in Mexico just to broadcast it here? That strikes me as incredibly weird. Honestly, it feels downright unacceptable. Take Silvio Berlusconi, for example—he opened TV stations in France, Germany, Spain, and all over. But from what I understand, those stations actually hire French, German, or Spanish people to run them. To me, it would be totally out of line to see an American news anchor sitting on a US network speaking Mexican. And if they hired Mexicans to do the work, I assume they’d be speaking Mexican too. I honestly think something like that might even be illegal, and if it isn't, then we seriously need to pass a law to make it so.

Carol Newman2 said:You misunderstood me. I only mentioned Fox News as an example of one conservative outlet floating in a sea of left-liberal networks. 🙂

Here we go...

BREAKING: A major new television network is launching in America.
A powerful Greek billionaire and Netflix are currently locked in a high-stakes battle over who gets to launch a new national broadcast network.

For once, it looks like Fox News actually got it right. 🤣

The Antenna Group needs to step up. Neither Nova nor ABC have actually done anything to enrich the American media landscape, which is exactly why they haven't earned the right to pick up another broadcast license.

Look, they weren't lying, but the whole thing is just another biased, right-wing piece of trash that defies all common sense. We're talking about some Greek company that has absolutely nothing to do with the music scene. Even if it did, you've got people—including the author of this mess—who are so obsessively fixated on Mexicans that they actually believe some commercial TV network is going to somehow poison the "American heartland."

Here’s what PBS thinks about rumors of a new network launching in the States
"While PBS views viewership as important, it isn't the sole metric used to shape our programming; our primary mission remains fulfilling our public service mandate," officials at The White House stated.

----------
Honestly, I think it’s high time we cut the commercials from PBS and just let the commercial networks own the market.

I’m with you on this one. It all comes down to the viewers. What a single TV station decides to broadcast is entirely subjective. Honestly, I could turn around and claim our networks are poisoning us with American pop culture if I felt like it. In a democracy, it’s just absurd to think anyone should be able to force their specific vision onto the entire country. Everyone has the right to do what they want. If a viewer wants to sit there and watch mindless reality TV, and that's what the channel is playing, then hey, that's their business.

Personally, I’d be all for it if they just bundled all that garbage into one single channel. That way, we wouldn't have to endure endless red carpet nonsense and similar trivialities scattered across every other network. This isn't anything groundbreaking; it’s the same old story. Even on CNN, they’ve been peddling various pop divas like Neda Ukrasti or Mica for ages, while FOX keeps pushing those celebrity dynasty shows.

The US honestly needs one high-quality, free adult programming channel available to everyone. If that existed, viewership for this mindless trash would probably plummet by 70%. Let’s face it: most people tune into those red carpet specials just for the physical distractions, not because they actually care about the atmosphere at some club in Washington, D.C., during a Lady Gaga concert. 😁 All these pop stars and their performances are basically softcore porn anyway, which explains why they pull such numbers. Why not just give people a real alternative so they don't have to waste their brain cells on this stuff?

And you know what? Between the movies on that adult channel, they should broadcast traffic safety rules, household finance advice, proposals for new legislation, and other educational content. That way, we might actually end up with a more sophisticated, informed, and organized nation.

Personally, I’d love to host a show about home aesthetics and urban architecture. I truly believe that kind of thing is desperately needed here in America.😁

I should probably mention that Silvio Berlusconi actually tried his luck by launching TV networks in Germany, France, and Spain, basically trying to export that exact same formula he used back in Italy... but if I remember correctly, only his Spanish station managed to stick around. His ventures in France and Germany totally flopped. Honestly, it’s because the French and Germans just have a different mindset; his "Italian-style" broadcasting didn't click with them at all. Meanwhile, the Spanish vibe is a lot closer to what you see in Italy, so it actually had a shot there. At the end of the day, it all comes down to the audience, plain and simple.

I’ve already spent some time flipping through Fox News and most of those channels out of Canada, and let me tell you, the programming is absolutely atrocious. I can't even sit through more than thirty minutes without feeling physically nauseous from their entire mindset. And honestly, what on earth does America have to do with Greece anyway?

You really think there isn't an American out there who enjoys watching that stuff?

Jerry Gonzalez65 said:We can't just sit back and let this happen. It’s basically going to be a total "cultural" takeover of Americans by the US Army Corps of Engineers—you know, forcing all that trashy pop, cheap reality TV with those pre-packaged scripts, and those low-rent regional talent shows and soap operas down our throats.
I mean, Pink Floyd already tried to make a move here once, but George W. Bush shut them down . Now, Joe Biden needs to pull the same kind of move. If people want to listen to that garbage in some dive bar or a local club, fine—let it stay on the fringes where it belongs. It shouldn't ever be elevated to a national level.

I am honestly just relieved this didn't happen here. If people want to listen to that junk, they can just go find it on YouTube. Besides, Greek music sounds pretty much the same as Bulgarian music anyway. They already have that Bulgarian channel, Balkanika TV, which is an absolute eyesore of a program. Honestly, if they want to broadcast that stuff, they should just open a station over there.

Well, personally, I don't. But why don't you go out and ask Americans what they think? I certainly don't speak for everyone.

I don't watch much either, but I generally support having as many channels available as possible.
Maybe that network will actually air something other than just country music eventually.
For instance, Fox News occasionally has some decent movies and series.
Every now and then, anyway.

I remember once stumbling upon the Mexican BBC, and they’re constantly playing this folk music that I honestly just associate with the Romani community... you know, the groups you see camped out around here. It’s why over in Italy, people always seem to lump Romani folks and Mexicans together—to them, it’s basically the same thing. In reality, there are tons of Romani people coming from Mexico, so they end up speaking Mexican. Italians really do blur those lines; even that soccer player, Lajic, looks Romani to them. For a lot of Italians, "Mexican" and "Romani" pretty much become synonymous. And honestly? I kind of get it, because the songs sound almost identical. They have that specific melody you recognize instantly. I can't stand it, though. Personally, I much prefer our local style, which feels way more Mediterranean or Italian. Like, I'm telling you, the old folk songs from my neck of the woods are incredibly similar to the traditional tunes in Lombardy. And let's not forget that Milan was under the Habsburg Government for ages, so there's a huge connection between Milan and Chicago.

Look, this isn't some debate about genetics; it’s entirely about historical and cultural values.

Look, I'm not really a big movie or series person myself. What I actually miss seeing on TV are documentaries and science programs. That's why NBC was always my go-to—they were the only ones consistently putting out stuff like that.
