My old man has changed a ton lately... honestly, it’s like he’s a completely different person now. He’s gone full religious on us, talking every single day about how invisible forces are running the world and how we have to watch out for demons and evil spirits. According to him, the only way to survive this "war" is through the church, the Bible, and pure faith. 🙄

What do you guys think... is he losing it?

When he was younger, he was actually a decent guy. This whole religious obsession thing started hitting him right around his late 40s or early 50s...

Here’s the gist of what he’s been preaching:

- We're living in a circle of evil...
- Demons and the devil are whispering in people's ears, causing every damn problem in the world...
- The only cure is found in the church and through priests...
- He constantly pushes regular church attendance, blessings from the pastor, confession, all that stuff...
- He read the Bible and now believes every single word written in it...
- If anyone dares to criticize religion, the church, or the clergy, he loses his mind and thinks it's some kind of personal attack...
- He won't listen to any other perspective and calls anyone who doesn't believe in these damn demons "idiots"...
- Thinks he's the smartest guy on the planet, always gotta be right...
- Claims people can't see the demons inside themselves, but he can...
- Whenever he sees someone, he immediately starts acting like a doctor, telling them exactly what their spiritual problems are and how to fix them...

For a while, he actually tried to convert people—telling everyone to turn to God and get more religious. But once he realized his preaching was getting on everyone's nerves, he toned it down in public... except at home, where he still gives us hell with this stuff every day...

So, what's the verdict? Does he need a psychiatrist, or is this just how he is? I already suggested he go see someone, but he won't even hear it. He calls mental illness "made-up diseases" and thinks psychologists, neurologists, and psychiatrists are just lunatics. In his head, he’s perfectly fine and his views are the absolute truth...

Get him out to Norway immediately, or at least let him blast Burzum and Gorgoroth all day long

Jokes aside!

Your father is suffering from some seriously severe indoctrination

From your description, he sounds like someone who was living in a cave until yesterday and suddenly discovered this nonsense called "religion"
Either send him to a psychiatric ward or a mental asylum... I’m genuinely worried he thinks he’s stuck in the Middle Ages fighting a crusade.
Then again, since we live in an ultra-religious country full of zealots and shallow believers, maybe your father is actually considered a "socially acceptable person" here.
If you share that same rural, small-town religious mindset, then everything is fine with him.
But from the perspective of a civilized, urban person in the 21st century? Your father is beyond help.

Hmm. He’s not crazy—just totally obsessed. It feels like he’s been spooked by his own mortality, even if just subconsciously—so he’s clinging to the stuff we’ve all been fed since we were kids to feel some sense of hope or comfort... you know? But since he's just an average guy, he doesn't really dare to question it, because he's been told it's the one absolute truth and that's that.
There are tons of people like him out there—it's just that they don't all make a scene about it. There you go. 🤷

Look, man, when you decide to jump onto a forum like this, you’ve got to realize a few things—first off, you aren't just dealing with professionals here. Not everyone posting has the best intentions, either, which is something to keep in mind. But more importantly, even if you were talking to an actual expert, it’s basically impossible—not to mention ethically questionable—for anyone to sit behind a screen and judge whether a third party is "normal" or not based solely on some online posts.
Right here, we have a dedicated thread where you can actually look up mental health facilities and specialists in the States where both you and your father might be able to find some real support.
