Good day.

I’m looking for some clarity—is there any way to know for certain if one is transgender? I haven't quite figured myself out yet. I'm a 20-year-old male... I don't exactly feel like a woman, but I don't feel like a man either. Being a man doesn't sit right with me, though I can't say for sure if being a woman would feel any better. I have an affinity for feminine things—cosmetics, makeup, heels—but the physical aspect, like having breasts or a vagina, remains a total unknown to me. Honestly, the confusion is becoming exhausting. I could use some guidance.

Thanks in advance. 😍

P.s. Leave the homophobia and sarcasm at the door—I won't be dignifying those comments with a response. 🙄

Looking back on life, how have you actually felt? Ever found yourself wishing you were born into a different gender? When you picture yourself acting more feminine—the clothes, the look, the whole vibe—how does that sit with you? You ever tried any of it? And honestly, how would it feel if people started addressing you as a woman?

Looking back, I felt like I didn't quite fit into either category—sounds strange, I know—but I wasn't truly myself either. I've toyed with the idea of playing a "supporting role" more than once; it had its charms, honestly. Even as a gay man with zero interest in women, there was an aesthetic appeal to it—call it curiosity, I guess. I gave it a shot, mostly because I have a thing for high-end designer heels and find feminine style inspiring, though I wouldn't want anyone actually addressing me as a woman.

Look, if you aren't actually feeling a deep-seated mismatch with being a guy, then you probably aren't trans.
It’s one thing to have this little fantasy about what it would be like to be a woman, but usually, to actually qualify as trans, there's this fundamental lack of masculine psychological traits that makes it impossible to identify with your birth sex. Most people out there fall pretty close to their biological sex on the spectrum, some are just neutral, but if you're sitting at like 60% on the opposite end and you genuinely can't stand living as a man, then yeah, that's when you should start seriously looking into gender reassignment surgery.

Look, these are heavy, life-altering issues, and truthfully, nobody on an online forum like this is equipped to give you the guidance you need. You should reach out to a professional counselor or, if you're religious, go talk to a priest at your local church. Seriously—both of those paths will provide much more stability and support than anything we can offer here.

I have zero interest in debating a homophobic priest—not that I’d listen anyway, since I’m an atheist. xD
It looks like I might need to spend some time in therapy.

Sex isn't binary. We have male and female, but fundamentally, we're all biological women... if certain hormones kick in, the male traits develop in stages. Each stage needs specific hormone levels. Sometimes the whole "male program" doesn't finish the job, leaving people with one sex in one body, or traits from both, or even a woman carrying testosterone instead of ovaries.

Just like sex isn't two fixed categories but a huge spectrum of possibilities, gender can't be split into just two boxes either. Transgender identity is being fully identified as the opposite of your biological sex... based on what you wrote, that clearly isn't your situation.

So the real question is: do you actually need a label, and why? What's the point? Are you actually looking for a permanent change to your body or how you act?

...it's totally normal not to feel like you fit strictly into one box or another... and how do you even define feeling like a man or a woman anyway? Is it based on having a certain body type? Or is it about who you're attracted to?...
...the whole thing with clothing is basically something we're taught... clothes can be for women just as easily as they can be for men... it's all conditioned and forced on us by society halfway through growing up... personally, I've never felt like a man, even though I wear "men's" shoes and pants most of the time, and I don't wear makeup or paint my nails or grow them out...
...guys wear skirts too... and plenty of men have worn dresses without feeling like women for even a second...
...besides, you're still young... it's completely fine that you aren't 100% sure yet. You're seeing so many different things that draw you in, so you try them out, you taste them... and then later on, you figure out where you land...
...and then there are guys who aren't trans, but they're just into crossdressing and get turned on by feminine clothes...

...look, whatever you turn out to be, don't be afraid and don't be ashamed... just live your life happily and be true to yourself...🙂
