First thing you should do is schedule an appointment with your doctor for some basic screenings.

It’s tough. I don't know if you guys get it, but even before all this started, he never wanted to see a doctor. I tried to make it a rule that I wouldn't go either if he didn't, but it was pointless... especially now that he thinks everyone is out to get him.😢

Is it possible someone else is getting in his head? It might be worth looking into who he’s been communicating with
in person, via phone, or on his computer when he thinks he's alone.

Look, my two cents? Just sit down and hash it out together. When he starts throwing those outbursts, don't bite—just hit him back with calmness, kindness, and some actual heart. It’s honestly pretty tough to maintain any kind of negative vibe when you're constantly surrounded by that much intense positivity.

I'm not ruling anything out, but trying to figure out what goes on in a head like his is tough. I've grabbed his phone before just for no reason, and he doesn't really hide it—he's always accessible—plus he isn't exactly a tech wizard. But he has started hanging out with the absolute bottom of the barrel lately, so maybe they're the ones filling his head with nonsense. They aren't exactly the brightest people around...

He’s basically built a wall. He’s been sleeping at his other place for three nights now, and whenever we call, he just claims he has to stay there because he’s working on some slow project or whatever. Honestly, we're mostly worried about Mom. She’s completely lost; she has no idea what’s happening or what to do. He’s essentially running away. We've tried everything with him—from telling him how much we love him to yelling because we're sick of playing parent to an adult. Every single time, Mom just brushes off everything he’s done to her lately. Despite all the verbal abuse, she just showers him with love. It’s gone from him being obsessed with tracking her every move to him avoiding the house entirely and sleeping somewhere else.😢

Is he dodging her, or everyone else too?

I'm not entirely sure if you're hitting the nail on the head here, because honestly, when I finally retire, I suspect I'll find everyone around me a whole lot more tolerable. 😁

Same here, assuming I make it that far... 😁

I'm lazy, though. I don't really care if I'm being useful or needed. People who actually care about being productive tend to struggle with retirement.

Sorry, I'm just getting back to this. A lot has gone down, but honestly, nothing is new—just things getting worse. He officially moved into that house, then started wandering the streets and making life miserable for his mom. Eventually, he asked some family friends to step in. They said they’d help, but only if he agreed to get treatment. He promised he would, but once he got home, he just lied to our faces about everything. It's pretty obvious his mental health is shot. He's physically failing too, but he refuses to do anything about it. I guess we could try to restrain him and force him to go, but I don't think that would even work...

When someone hits retirement at 45 and spends their entire life glued to the TV or just doing absolutely nothing, this is usually what happens... at least in our neck of the woods.
