A Man Called Otto (2022)

Ruben just finished the job with a quick yank of the hose and a little smirk.

Such a great movie. It really nails that whole vibe regarding those greedy real estate firms pretending they actually give a damn about your health.

It carries a beautiful message, I suppose, though the movie itself is a pretty heavy, dark watch. Or maybe it just hit me right where it hurts.

Kudos to that irresistible cat! Doesn't he feel like the true star of the movie?

I don't know, man... for some reason, the whole movie just felt like a lukewarm, watered-down version of St. Vincent from 2014.

I’ve been seeing Ott popping up all over my feed lately—so I figured, why not just download it? Usually, I don't really do that, but since this thread was live, I decided to do a quick deep dive before hitting play. First thing I spotted was this comment:
"did you see the original?"
Wait, what? I totally missed the original version... honestly didn't even know it existed.
Then the next person goes, "just like every other Hollywood production, it's loaded with Woke propaganda." Honestly, that pretty much sealed the deal for me—I am definitely skipping Hanks' Ott.
The original is already queued up.

The movie is depressing, sure, but it’s missing something... it feels way too realistic for its own good.
I mean, Gran Torino is similar, and honestly, I think it's much better than anything by Ott.

Gran Torino feels like a much more authentic American film—plus, Clint Eastwood is an absolute powerhouse behind the camera.

I just caught the Swedish remake and honestly, it’s way better. It just feels more emotional and human, you know?

I caught it yesterday, and while it’s an okay enough movie, it just feels like it's missing that certain something needed to make it truly great. It felt a bit bland to me, which is a shame because I honestly love watching Hanks in just about anything he does.

To my massive disappointment, I just read here that there's actually an original version out there, and now I'm kicking myself for not seeing it sooner; I've always had a soft spot for Nordic cinema, even if I haven't dove into it as deeply as I should have. I definitely agree with the sentiment that Americans never quite manage to nail a remake of a stellar original. And don't get me started on the Woke propaganda—that bothers me too, of course.

Honestly, the book is incredible—it might even be better than the original movie.

I walked out after twenty minutes. It was entirely predictable and utterly tedious. 😎

I actually really liked the book, so I went back and watched the original, which—if I'm being totally real—was kind of a letdown, so I'm definitely not even planning on giving the American remake a shot.
