My apologies if I’ve somehow missed the correct subforum here.

I was wondering if it's actually possible for me to just go ahead and build or install a monument on my own private property dedicated to someone famous—or maybe even something else entirely? I'm thinking about a statue of a politician, a public figure, or honestly, even a cartoon character.

Does that require any specific permits or anything along those lines? I would really appreciate it if someone could walk me through what the actual procedure looks like.

For instance, if I had my heart set on putting up a statue that stands about 30 feet tall, what kind of steps would I need to take?

I’m pretty sure you need a permit from City Hall and have to cough up some local utility fees, but hey, you could always just claim it’s an "art installation" instead of a monument 😉

Sure, you could argue that’s how you hold concrete or bronze or whatever else. For instance, you could just sculpt a massive concrete middle finger on your front lawn.

Of course you’ll need permits—you'll have to file a formal project plan, pay the various fees, and deal with all that bureaucracy... you know how it goes.

The regulations are pretty granular; the fact that hardly anyone actually follows them in the real world is a whole different conversation.
