That’s why I really appreciate being able to say hello to those of you I recognize as genuine, decent people here.

Yeah, it would be devastating if I were forced to shut down my shop even for a single day. Things are already tight enough as it is—if we have to close, we’re basically finished. Maybe, just maybe, the government will come up with some actual support, though lately it feels like they're working against us instead. At some point, I might just have to take the risk; let them hand out the fines if they want. It might be a faster way to end the struggle, and clearly, one more person on the unemployment rolls doesn't mean much to them anyway.

I haven't actually heard of any business owner getting penalized just for working in their own company without being officially on the payroll...

If it were my business, I’d probably risk the fine myself :-))

haven't exactly been throwing huge parties either.
Hopefully things start picking up some momentum, both professionally and generally, and that we actually manage to stay ahead of the curve with all these legislative shifts.
Mainly thinking about those reporting changes regarding payroll taxes and sales tax coming up this July.
We're a resilient bunch, I guess. 🙂
Proven that many times before. 😍

I suppose that’s the old "what doesn't kill us makes us stronger" mantra in action. 🤣

And frankly, we’re going to need every bit of that resilience quite soon, just to tackle everything you’ve listed and then some. 😉

Why would I be?
I’m honestly feeling a bit bummed out because I used to love chatting with everyone here, but even that’s becoming a chore lately.

Is a business owner forced to shut down entirely, or can they just use their own Social Security number to ring up sales and work the register themselves for a few days?

They can't. It’s as simple and blunt as that—they can't. If they want to touch the register, they have to be an official employee; even "volunteering" won't fly with the IRS. It’s a headache, but that's just how the system works.

I saw your posts in the tax compliance thread, but I just don't have the energy to jump into that mess right now. 🤣

😍

I spent three hours today hunting for an error and came up completely empty-handed 🤣

Why does the opening balance even need to be balanced? 🙂

Isn't it a little more interesting when things lean slightly toward the liability side? 😍

hahahaha, if you aren't careful, that leaning side might just tip the whole thing over, sending poor Henry Edwards33 straight into the red. 😂😂😂😂

I am positive I flipped one number over and now I can't find it anywhere.😢

I really don't want to have to stare at the same set of numbers all over again. That's just not how I roll. 🙂

but please, not today...
tomorrow, as soon as you take a look at the balance sheet, I’m positive you’ll spot it instantly 🤣

Come on, calm down—take a breath and try to find the actual root of the issue.

Look how easy I make it: let Synesis handle it, and if they can't fix it—well, then I'm officially clueless about how any of this works...

🙂 Don't quote me on this, 🙂

The first time I entered the opening balance, everything defaulted to zero, and then Synesis messed up—this time it wasn't even my fault, which is a small comfort—and wiped everything out. 🙂

They told me it’s impossible for the system to save an entry under index number 0. 😢
Even though the software is supposed to assign the document ID automatically, this keeps happening. I try to save a document—doesn't matter which one—and instead of assigning a number, the system throws a warning saying it can't save under 0 and just deletes the whole thing. 🙂

Wait, you're talking about the linguistics exam?? Honestly, I wouldn't bet on Synesis being the culprit here. I'm guessing there was a little hiccup with the index number—it happens—but the software is designed to handle the numbering itself. Sometimes if things get messy and hit zero, the data just vanishes. It’s never happened to me, though. If it does, try searching for it using the F11 key rather than looking for "0" directly. Or wait, maybe it's the other way around? Just try typing in 0 manually or look through the table. You can have as many starting balance snapshots as you need, really—or more accurately, snapshots as of a specific date.

But seriously: 🙂 ?!?

If that doesn't work, let me know and I'll try to dig through my memory for anything else.

Thanks, but there's nothing there. It's a total void, just empty space... 😂

It doesn't really matter, though. I'll figure it out eventually. At this point, I've finally calmed down and honestly, the whole thing is just getting kind of funny. 😉

I know I probably come across as a bit silly or overly soothing right now. But hey, I'm just waiting for the day you finally show up—then you'll see what a handful I can actually be.

Honestly, I'm a little spooked, but I'll die before I admit it. 😳

Brrrrrr ... See how much I'm shaking? 😳

I'm gonna go stare at the TV for a while. Goodnight everyone, hope you have some decent dreams. 🙂

Did you manually type in those journal entries, or were you pulling them over from last year's data?
If you were importing them, try deleting that zeroed-out entry if it's still lingering somewhere in the system, then try pulling the data again.

I've had instances where the system saves a document under 0; it won't show up in the main list, but suddenly it pops up on a customer's financial ledger. In those cases, I just navigate to the specific ledger, find the ghost entry, and delete it from there.

But if you were typing them in manually from scratch, I'm afraid we're out of luck.

P.S. Did you manage to get that little headache sorted out today?

It looks like the system is still acting up, so she's nowhere to be found??

There are plenty of those documents with "0" in the field, but they don't just vanish into thin air. I honestly think you should try searching through the list—maybe even try typing "0" directly into the document search box to see if it pops up!

I suppose I should have seen this coming, given how predictably things tend to unfold around here. It’s almost impressive, in a deeply underwhelming sort of way, how we manage to stumble into the same old patterns without even trying. One would think a bit of experience might lead to a different outcome, but clearly, I was being overly optimistic—a flaw I seem to carry with me quite consistently. kaže:
It seems like he’s still cutting through the noise, so I guess that means she’s officially gone?

There’s no way those documents with the zero prefix just vanished into thin air without a trace. I suspect they haven't actually disappeared; we likely just need to be a bit more methodical about how we hunt them down. My suggestion would be to run a thorough search through the directory, but also try manually inputting a zero into the document field to see if that forces the system to actually display them.

Honestly, I once had someone drive me absolutely up the wall with a situation involving a foundation assessment. The data was completely nonsensical—we were seeing figures that were either doubled or, even more bafflingly, dropping below zero. It was enough to make anyone lose their mind. I remember looking at certain entries where a negative value seemed to be doubling itself, yet when I tried to pull up the actual records to verify anything, they were nowhere to be found. It was like trying to track down a ghost in the system.

It wasn't until I finally wiped the slate clean—I can't even recall exactly how I managed to delete both of them—and started from scratch that things actually began to make sense.

I'd highly recommend running data compaction regularly. I usually trigger the process for all books (using the F3 tool) and just head home, letting the computer "work" in peace without getting in its way.
Or, when I'm installing a new version, I'll start the full book upgrade and head out for the day too. 😍

I’ve actually never tried doing it that way myself, so I think I’ll take a look at what you're talking about tomorrow—if I can't quite wrap my head around it, I might have to bug you for some clarification. :-))
