Ribba said:I’m not attacking you personally, but constantly calling a piece of software garbage is just plain ugly.

Since when is telling the truth "ugly"? Just look at this thread; users are complaining constantly. I recently pulled a few recurring themes from the discussions. It all boils down to slowness, complexity, and instability. Oh, and I forgot to mention the terrible documentation and pathetic customer support. I haven't had much direct contact with the software myself (thankfully), but everyone around me uses it, and I hear the criticism nonstop.

but they're clearly just sheep following the herd, given how many of them there are (according to you).

That was your claim, not mine. Plenty of people wear cheap knockoff sandals—not because they're mindless sheep, but because they can't afford anything else, and they get the job done.
Then you have the ones blinded by slick marketing and low price points, ignoring the long-term damage they do to themselves, their productivity, and everyone around them...

If it serves its purpose for the money (which I think is way too cheap), then it's a good program.

We agree on that, but only in the sense that it serves a function and drives down hourly developer rates, not that it's actually "good." Users don't need to understand database architecture to feel the consequences of constant crashes, data loss, endless compaction cycles, and overly convoluted parameters...

You're really doing an anti-ad for Tech, I have to say.

Where did Tech come from? I didn't even mention them.

Just to clarify, I have zero connection to either program.
😉

Let's just say I believe you.😉

Look, Terry Johnson3, just calm down!

First you go on a rant 🙂, then maybe you'll stay quiet for a few pages before starting up again. I truly hope you manage to land some actual clients for your site so you'll be too busy working to bother us here.
As long as the moderators let you run free ads, whatever. But let's be real: you aren't following the thread; you're just jumping in to derail everything.

Being honest doesn't mean trashing an entire software package. I've told you before—Synesis is excellent software. It’s not just my opinion; plenty of other users have said the same. If I point out something that could be improved, my goal isn't to bash my own tools or anyone else's, but to actually fix the issue at hand.

But you wouldn't get that. Even Ribba pointed out that you've got it all wrong and that you're basically just running anti-propaganda against the very program you're supposed to be promoting. If I were the owner of the software you're peddling, my blood pressure would spike every time you showed up here to drop your little "gems." 😁

I find you pretty interesting—who exactly are you trying to pick a fight with? We already laid it out clearly regarding what you repeated—this constant, mindless nitpicking is getting old. Most veteran forum users stopped taking this kind of nonsense seriously ages ago, and frankly, it just invites mockery. When someone lashes out like this, it's a red flag. Let's just state our piece and let the admins deal with the fallout.

It's a total smear campaign, even though we all know it's aimed at Tech—it's fine to mention it, but it shouldn't be a requirement. Even if it's seen as a "garage startup" type of software, there's something more important here: treating respected experts—like the handful of you running service businesses whom I actually respect—as if you're sheep just because they use Synesis. That's a low blow. It’s just as dirty as those previous attempts to drag the admin through the mud—someone we all value immensely—by writing those little pamphlets claiming she was biased. Where is the integrity in coming back here after all that? Anonymity is a strange thing... anyone can act like a king when they're hiding behind a screen.

Trying to argue against these absurdities (access issues??? This database is a dream; it never crashes, and I never even have to compact it—that's what every new version handles automatically!!) would just be a waste of my time and space. It's like arguing with people who clearly have nothing better to do since they obviously aren't working anywhere—they just sit around typing. They try to claim accounting software belongs in the category of simple programs—no real functions, no oversight, no feedback loops, etc. Honestly, a program for a handheld drill has more utility than this... although, to some, this seems like the absolute peak of programming wizardry. Even though Paprikin dos was a tiny little program, much like Syn4... while it was obviously way more modest in its features, it did the job! And I actually tested something: it still works today... using DBF files?!? It's unbelievable... no SQL database required!

Richard, if I may quote you: "I've told you several times now that Synesis is an excellent program, and not just me—other users have said the same." I'd just add: it's in a class of its own. Especially considering the price point; it offers ten times more value than those garage-built programs. For someone like me who isn't a pro, it's perfect, though of course, it can always be improved and deserves a little critique here and there. But for now, I wouldn't trade it for anything else in this category, not even in my wildest dreams.

I am calm. You're the ones getting worked up because someone dared to offer a reasoned critique of your flawless software. You immediately resort to personal attacks and insults. That's just gutter behavior. The whole "garage" thing? You heard that from someone here looking for revenge against the owner by claiming the office is in a basement. Feel free to visit and see for yourselves—it’s definitely not a basement, and it looks a hell of a lot better than the local Starbucks. It was a garage once. I was there a few years ago, so maybe it's improved since then, but back then it was a disaster. It felt like walking into a stable full of wild animals. Instead of a greeting, I had to listen to a support lady screaming at some poor client. I won't even repeat the profanity used after she hung up. A total zoo.

As long as the moderators let you advertise for free

I didn't even mention Best Buy, so calling it advertising is a stretch. Great job! I guess I should have praised Apple instead.😂 That would have triggered a wave of sarcastic laughter...

wrote that Sisyphus is an excellent program

"Excellent" is a stretch, but it gets the job done. If it were truly terrible, nobody would buy it. My point is that it works for small-scale needs, provided you don't mind dealing with thousands of settings, endless parameters, constant crashes, and data loss.
It's true that those old legacy programs worked (and some still do, financially speaking, though tax regulations wiped out the warehouse side), but they suffered from the same issues because they relied on bad databases. Back then, cheap alternatives didn't exist. Now, they are everywhere, so I don't understand why anyone would insist on using something this bad. And then there's the guy bragging about "tinkering" with the database himself just to make it work properly. Honestly, the developers would be horrified, and they could probably sue him for that. Given that kind of "intervention," I'm not surprised their support team isn't being helpful.

Terry Johnson3, don't flatter yourself and stop exaggerating. You aren't "calm." You can't even watch the communication between Synapse users without jumping in. That doesn't make you calm.
Have I ever interrupted your chats when you were talking to your own software users? No. That means I'm not triggered by other people's presence. But what do you do in these situations? You throw stones at other people's programs, even though I know enough to be sure you have no clue what you're attacking or how it actually functions. You don't know Synapse, and I'll leave it at that—I see zero reason to waste my breath explaining it to you. Your anger is irrational from any objective or logical standpoint... so there's no way to change that state, no matter what I say. You're just Terry Johnson3—a little hothead... there's no helping you, and nothing ever has 🙂.

As for your description of the office space and those other "observations"... that's just not on my level. You exaggerated everything, so I won't even bother commenting on that part or giving it any weight. Just know that you ended up describing yourself more than the office. 😁

Seriously though, we need to come up with a special nickname for Terry Johnson3 since we already have Pepper.

Fine, I'm not "calm" then. Have it your way. It clearly matters a lot to you that you always get the last word.

Nobody is stopping you from speaking up if you actually have a smart, logical point to make. In fact, go ahead...

Synapse is a garbage program—slow, unstable, and overcomplicated. I've laid out plenty of arguments for that. And compared to Techno software, it has one massive flaw: you can't trial it. That’s why you guys are working so hard to hype it up through those passive-aggressive questions and direct pitches; you think people will fall for your sales pitch. With Techno, you can test everything first. If it sucks, you don't buy it. It costs you nothing.

People are being way too nice to you...
Honestly, you’re so boring that even someone like me, who sticks to bell peppers😂 (just for myself), and doesn't find them cheap or perfect either, has an actual physical aversion to that famous onion🤣
that I’ve somehow never even tried—and thanks to you, probably never will...
In case you're wondering who this is or why I'm here... I rarely post on this topic, but I read it constantly...

And yeah, you're definitely overdoing it with the pepper-shaming and the onion-worship. It's getting ridiculous.

Why would anyone be surprised? Everyone is entitled to an opinion. You, me, whoever. If some people try to shut me up—using every dirty trick in the book just because I won't fall in line—that’s their issue. Fine, you think I'm boring. So what?
This forum shouldn't be about me or anyone else personally. It should be about whether my arguments hold water. We should be discussing whether Techno or Synapse is better, where their strengths lie, or where they fall short.
I provided well-reasoned critiques, and in return, I get hit with personal attacks and smears against the company.
Attack my logic. Leave me alone. Just ignore me, like Jessica Grant56 says. 😍

That’s not really an argument—you’re claiming Synapse is garbage, yet you also admit you haven't used it in ages. I don't see how that holds any weight.🤷
To me, this isn't an actual debate.

What arguments exactly???

Seriously, there are tons of them...
Look, I've been using this software for what, 15 or 20 years? (I can't remember exactly, but I've been at it since the DOS days). And honestly, something about your "arguments" just doesn't sit right with me...

As far as I'm concerned, the program has never been slow. Not once. Maybe for some massive accounting firm drowning in data, sure, but for me? Never.
Unstable? I have no clue what you mean by that. It hasn't crashed on me once. Using it for 15 years is probably proof enough that it isn't unstable.🤷
Complicated? I might give you that—they definitely over-engineered it. But once you set things up, it's dead simple, even for someone who isn't an accountant.

Besides, if it is complicated, it's mostly because of how often our tax laws and regulations change constantly... more than the software itself.
Really hoping we stop getting hit with these stupid law changes before they're even published or explained properly.

And as for arguments for Techno, I've never heard anything besides people claiming it's perfect and the absolute best, supposedly because it has some "superior SQL database."
To be honest, as a regular user, I don't care if it uses SQL, Access, or whatever. For me, DOS was the easiest thing to type in. 😁
So, what other arguments do you actually have? 🤷

So, do you actually have an argument here or not? Look back at the whole thread, not just the last post. If everyone put as much effort into their points as I do (and if apis would actually try sometimes), this debate would be a hell of a lot more productive.
As far as I'm concerned, the program was never slow. I personally never experienced that... sure, maybe for some accounting firm buried under mountains of paperwork it was, but for me, just handling my own stuff, it wasn't.

That’s exactly my point. It might run fine on a single PC with minimal data for a simple business. Anything beyond that, and you're asking for trouble. It’s the same story with Clipper. But with Clipper (meaning DBF), nobody cared because it was the only—or at least the most popular—alternative to the expensive solutions back then.

And I've never read any actual arguments for Techno... just that it's perfect and the best ever, and supposedly has some superior SQL database...

Clearly, you didn't bother looking (I've cited them, and so have others—and I'm not just talking about praise, but flaws too).

And when you can't even get the name right, it's obvious you didn't even want to try.

We are talking about Techno software, just so you know for next time.

Honestly, I think he’s played you guys again—who knows how many times at this point... It seems like he doesn't care about anything else, whether it's the local farm produce, Peppers, or just some simple salad; all he cares about is getting his own name out there!!! And how does he do that? By picking fights with everyone. He’ll try to prove things that simply can't be proven, just to stay relevant. That’s clearly his only goal, even if it means barging into discussions like some rude, ill-mannered kid. (And yes, I said LIKE, which is perfectly fine to say)

The sheer amount of nonsense he spews is honestly mind-boggling, especially since he doesn't actually work with the software, doesn't know it, and barely understands it beyond some vague "back in the day" memory... It feels completely pointless to try and reason with someone who is so irrational and so blatantly disrespectful that they turn every single thread into a personal branding exercise. He acts like he’s somehow superior to the entire forum—especially acting "polite" toward the women here, though we all know that hasn't exactly been the case recently, and I won't quote him because it's just gross...

At this stage, the only sane move is to just ignore all that nonsense and pseudo-intellectual rambling. We're all just wasting our precious time trying to prove an Indian is an Indian.

Haug!

So, what you're saying is that every single word I say carries weight, yet anyone else can complain about me or insult me whenever they feel like it? You just sit there and don't sanction the personal attacks.

It’s far from perfect. Claiming that I’m insisting things are flawless or that I’m ignoring posts is just poking the bear to get a reaction out of me. Honestly, I don't go looking for perfection in anything in life. I'm not a complete idiot. 🙂

Just because I haven't used it lately doesn't mean I'm out of the loop. I deal with plenty of people I talk to regularly—mostly accountants and service techs—and I'm constantly hearing their complaints.

I hear those complaints all the time too. You ask someone a simple question like, "How's it going?" and you get hit with a barrage of grievances. People love to complain. They love to broadcast how hard life is. Not everyone does, but a good chunk of them do.

So basically, every word I say carries weight, while anyone else can complain or insult people as much as they want. You don't do anything about personal attacks.

I'm not silencing you. 🤣
Unfortunately, you haven't quite grasped how the system works. I don't shut down anyone who stays polite and sticks to the topic. Like I told you before, you can report any posts you think need a look or some discipline. Reports go to all five moderators in the Department, the head super-moderator, and three administrators. That should give you an idea of how much weight a report actually carries. Most of us listed there will review reports and act accordingly.
If you get a warning telling you not to do something, and then you go ahead and do exactly that, getting the ban you were warned about isn't really a problem in my book.

A super-mod can tell me, "Henry Edwards33, stop calling user XY an idiot or you'll get a strike for harassment."
If I write a post where I call user XY an idiot, how could a strike for harassment possibly catch me by surprise? 🤷
I was clearly trying to say the situation was stupid, so if I end up with a strike for it, so be it. I weighed the pros and cons and decided to call out the stupidity. 😁

Can we move on from my moderation duties now, or do I need to keep explaining this?

I don't mind people talking about other software or pointing out the flaws in any particular program, provided they do it respectfully and follow the rules. Try using that approach for a while, and we'll see how it goes. 😉

Henry Edwards33, I am truly sorry you decided to drag "this" over here—it really spoils this nice little corner by introducing all these weird personas. We actually had a peaceful spot without all the constant interruptions, so what are we supposed to do now?? Just find us another quiet space where we can talk like normal people—you know, mention adding peppers to a salad or whatever else—without anyone forcing onions down our throats... especially the strong kind.

If you want to make your life a little easier, just head over to your profile settings and add anyone who’s getting on your nerves to your ignore list. Once you do that, their posts just vanish from your view. It’s much better for your mental health. 😁

I decided to switch topics because I’m not interested in deleting anything. Clearly, some people feel a desperate need to clarify things, so they can go ahead and talk themselves in circles if they want. It doesn't bother me at all, as long as my other threads stay clean.
Talking isn't really an issue for me. You know better than anyone how much I love to ramble and how much I can overexplain things when I get going. 🤣

Just look for the ignore option and click it. Trust me, it’s worth it. 😉

unrecognized entity already laid it all out for you here.
Ignore - hide posts from specific users whenever you want.
If there's someone on the forum who’s driving you crazy, you can choose to ignore them, which essentially makes their posts invisible to you. To do this, just visit their profile (click on their username) and select User lists > Add to ignore list. They won't get a notification that you've blocked them, and they'll still be able to see what you post.
