I honestly get hit with a wave of depression whenever I hear traditional folk music, regardless of what the lyrics are actually about.

If you’re looking for raw, unadulterated rage in your music, stick to punk.
If you want songs about slaying dragons and epic battles, go with power metal.
As far as I'm concerned, nothing else really matters... 😁

There’s one track where she sings about love and happiness. Yes, actual happiness!

Mind you, there is one song about a lost bunny, but I think I'll skip that one.

Well, good for you.
Those kids are honestly something else. Listening to them instantly puts me in a better mood.

Personally, I’d much rather blast something with a heavy beat or some grand opera than sit through ballads. That stuff is clearly for the heartbroken, the depressed, or people just wallowing in nostalgia...

If you really want to feel something, go listen to some classic soul or blues—perfect for anyone who loves to belt it out. Singing just vents all that stress, you know? It actually helps.

Is blues music actually just forced optimism? Especially if you're looking for an exit strategy. :-)

Here is one that seems a bit melancholy, though I suppose who could truly live without this kind of feeling?

My dear fairy tale

Almost every single time
whenever our eyes happen to meet 😍
you act as if you don't recognize me
as if we were total strangers

And yet, I find myself wanting to call out to you
just as you are drifting off to sleep
to be the very first voice you hear in a dream
telling you that I still love you

My dear fairy tale
you are my dream, you really are my dream
though perhaps it would be easier if you were just someone else to me😍
someone I didn't know, someone I hadn't met

🤷

There was one thing that always felt a bit off to me.
Having lived in Miami for a few years, I remember being at this wedding where they started playing those old-school local anthems, and the crowd just completely froze... nobody was feeling it at all. But the second they switched over to some classic pop hits or those big mainstream radio songs, the whole party finally came to life. I honestly don't quite get how people can find themselves dancing along to those heavy, melancholy ballads about life passing by...

I'm right there with you. Makes no sense.🤷

Maybe they're just masochists who actually enjoy feeling miserable.😍

Honestly, lately I’ve just been vibing exclusively to instrumentals.

I'm talking everything from minimal techno and hardstyle to goa, psytrance, and even some chill ambient or zen tracks.😁

Upbeat music is the only way to go for weddings. A good bluegrass band hits the spot, regardless of what they're singing about!

Thanks for the suggestion on the instrumentals—I’ve definitely been noticing that lately too!

dragons + power metal = the absolute best genre.

Classic Blues and its Southern soul cousins were all about singing through the struggle—tackling themes of hardship, systemic oppression, and racial injustice—but they always managed to inject a sense of hope into the music.

This local trash doesn't offer any optimism; it just drags you down into pure despair. That’s why it’s garbage.
