Aaron Howard27 said:Hey everyone. Quick question here!
I’ve really struggled with being around people over the last five years—honestly, I try to avoid them as much as possible. If I go out for coffee, it’s just a quick thing, then I’m out. But one thing I’ve noticed lately—and this has been going on for about two and a half years now—is that I feel pretty much asexual. So, I was wondering... do you guys think those two things might be linked? Just a thought...

I honestly suspect that they are linked.

It’s like... I just take a quick glance at downtown, right? And what do I see? A massive swarm of tourists wandering around aimlessly like they don't even have heads attached to their bodies. Just these stinky crowds, decked out in their bargain-bin, cheap-ass clothes with beer bellies sticking out everywhere. Honestly, it drives me absolutely insane...

🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏oh boy, oh boy... my absolute favorite part is when someone walks up to ask a question, but they don't even have a clue what they want or how to phrase it... I swear, I'd just start screaming if I could...

I’m definitely not asexual. I mean, I can still expect things to happen 😂
silverbison62, yeah, I honestly think being an only child plays a huge part—spending your whole childhood alone at home just teaches you how to entertain yourself.
I was low-key terrified when I moved in with my boyfriend—like, how am I gonna deal with this guy 24/7? But hey, it actually turned out fine.
There’s also this other thing that drives me crazy about people—hyperactivity. I just don't get it. I have a few friends who can't wrap their heads around how I can just sit there staring into space for hours. For them, if they aren't doing something every 30 minutes, their entire day is ruined because they're bored 😲

I have this feeling that I've always been this way—though, looking back, maybe it really kicked in once I started college. Or perhaps somewhere toward the end of high school.

Nah, I wouldn't go that far. I grew up sharing a room with my sister the whole time... 😢
So, let me introduce myself. Name's Borna, and I'm just a lite version of a misanthrope. I've got maybe four friends I actually hang out with. I hit the clubs once a month max; the rest of the time, I'm just chilling at home. Bottom line? Being a misanthrope isn't some sickness. It's a lifestyle. People just don't get it.😁

Man, I know that feeling all too well. 🤣
I deal with people like that at work constantly. My go-to move is giving them a look so icy it would make a penguin shiver, followed by a silent, "What the hell do you actually want from me?" 😠"

If I actually started listing every single bit of nonsense these people dump on me, I think I’d probably just implode right then and there—but let me give you a perfect little example of pure idiocy. This guy—just a total moron, really—spent about five minutes acting like he was about to ask me something important. He pulls up a chair, sits down, grins right at me, and then just walks away without ever remembering his question...
Now, I have a question for all of you... what do you think? Did he put the chair back??

Of course it isn’t... man, if we could just have one single day without some idiot breathing down our necks so we could finally get rid of everyone who drives us up the wall...
I work in this super niche specialty shop, right? And every single time, some clueless person wanders in and basically announces, "I have absolutely zero clue what I'm doing, please help me." So, I walk them through it and give them two clear options—because trust me, I tried offering more than two once and it just turned into a total clusterf***—but they still just stand there staring blankly at the shelves like a deer in headlights. They end up wasting my precious time, time they could be using for literally anything else instead of just being a complete drain on my sanity...
Like, seriously, what does a label even mean to you? You literally admitted you don't get it, so just take the one I suggested and beat it!

Honestly, I’d love to just bundle my asexuality together with my upcoming descent into misanthropy🙂. Sex is constantly running through my head, so I actually find myself kind of envying asexual people. For what it's worth, I live with an asexual woman who, unlike me, loves people with the intensity of Mother Teresa. And now they say opposites don't attract.
This is easily my favorite time of year. Work has slowed down to a crawl, so I’m basically alone in my 400-square-foot office. New York City is a ghost town; you can walk down the street without bumping into a single soul. Even finding parking in those free zones is a breeze. It’s heaven.
Just as everyone else starts trickling back from their summer vacations, I’ll be heading off to my own little "island" for a month to play hermit. I'll be out there digging up tomatoes and potatoes, maybe catch some tuna, or just pull a few fish out of the water. I won't have to say "thank you" to Jesus to anyone. Pure bliss. Who says life can't be great?

My childhood was exactly like that too. We're basically the same person. We can't stand each other. Haven't even spoken directly in a year—just checking in through other people to see if the other is still breathing.

Get this—the ATM is totally empty. I’ve had two locals come by ten different times already just to ask when it’ll be refilled, and I have to tell them ten different times that it happens at 2:00 PM sharp!!! They'll probably show up again, too. I guess they don't have much else to do, so it's easier to just pester me...

Anyway, if nothing else happens, I'm wrapping up work in five minutes, heading home for some food, popping my earbuds in, and riding my bike all over the island.

Talk to you guys tomorrow! 😁 😉

Heh, yep, there are more of us out there. I’m definitely one of those people who thrives on solitude—honestly, I’m never bored when I’m hanging out with myself. 😉
Small talk? Not my thing. All that mindless chatter just to be polite (like, "Wow, isn't the weather nice today?" 😉) or group trips, group coffee dates, basically anything involving a crowd (don't get me wrong here 😳).
I’d much rather grab a coffee solo, hang out at home by myself, go on a road trip, or just head out into nature...
It’s true, people can be exhausting. But I do have a handful of people in my life who are absolutely amazing, and I thank God, the universe, or whatever else for putting them in my orbit. 🙏 🙏 (My mom, my parents, and a few lifelong besties)
Then again, there’s a whole other group of people I’m surrounded by just because I have to be (family stuff, work, etc.), and I’m definitely not thanking the universe for that part. 😁 🤣
I really think people who can’t stand being alone are missing the whole point of living, which is actually getting to know and love yourself for who you truly are.
If you spend all your precious time on pointless coffee dates, parties, boring people, and endless small talk... you're gonna have a hard time finding yourself or connecting with your own soul.
And yeah, people might call you a weirdo, because there's always a price to pay for having a "different" philosophy, 😁 but honestly, I don't give a damn. ☕ 😍

I’ve always been this way, I suppose. Even back when I was just a kid, I had this habit of wandering off on my own, which apparently unsettled people; I remember one overly concerned acquaintance actually asked my mother if I was doing alright because she’d spotted me walking through downtown alone, seemingly smiling to myself. It honestly left my mother feeling a bit judged by the whole thing.🙄By the time I was in fifth grade, my parents actually forbade me from going to the movies because I insisted on going solo. Later, when I turned eighteen, a friend tried to gift me a t-shirt that said 'Misanthrope,' and I couldn't even wrap my head around why he thought that fit me. So, I guess this temperament was just hardwired into my DNA from the start, even though I did go through those intense phases of being constantly surrounded by crowds or occasionally crashing at various underground art collectives.

There are still a few of us left out here... I actually forced myself to attend a social gathering the other day, just for the sake of appearances, so people wouldn't think I was some kind of total recluse... But honestly, I find a certain peace in being alone; I love wandering through the city streets early in the morning before the crowds start to swell... Even my workspace is set up such that, during the late hours, my only companions are three monitors and a security guard in the next room over... 🙂🙂🙂 I could probably go days without ever stepping foot outside my apartment....

That was basically my game plan this year too—heading out to the middle of nowhere late August/early September:
1/ dodging everyone in NYC (friends, coworkers, just people in general)
2/ avoiding the crowds at the coast (whether it's family houses or just packed beaches and boardwalks)

If the weather holds up, I couldn't be happier 🙂

So, is it just me, or does everyone here seem to be turning into a total misanthrope? Or maybe you all just don't see yourselves as part of the general public anymore... I don't know.
For example, I really value being picky about who I grab coffee with... and honestly, making that choice is never easy...
