You should also check out Revolut if you want a solid prepaid option. You get a digital Visa Prepaid Card instantly through the app, then just link it to your regular debit card to top it up and go. If you want a physical one, they'll send it for free, though they charge about $6 for shipping. It works everywhere globally. I use mine constantly... killer app and gives you total control over what you're spending

Just wanted to set the record straight on Wells Fargo/Addiko—they also offer a Mastercard that works exactly like what redraven3 was talking about. I’ve been using mine for 5 years and haven't run into a single issue. In the past, there were glitches because they used cards without chips, so they wouldn't work on some of the newer Electronic Funds Transfer terminals (like at McDonald's or Sysco). Ever since Addiko took over, they've issued new chip cards and everything works perfectly... except for the fact that the pink color is pretty ugly. 🙂

So, the screenshot shows what I owe (but subtract $67 since I’ve got a voucher, so the actual total is $318). They also have all these fine print notes about exchange rates. It’s for an Airbnb booking.

Honestly, I'm just too tired to wrap my head around how much they're actually pulling from my account. I can't figure out which currency converts to what, or how many different people are taking a cut along the way... It's a mess. Even the folks at my bank couldn't give me a straight answer, despite me hitting up both a local branch and customer support.

P.S. Will this card even work? The site says it accepts Visa, but who knows...
