Is that card issued under a specific name?
What I'm really trying to figure out—and I'm just guessing here—is whether the bank can actually freeze it if you have outstanding debts or if your accounts at some other bank are already locked down.

Alright, I could really use some specific info here.

Has anyone actually taken this card and used it in Australia (like, physically being there on the ground)? I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth grabbing or not...

@ analoggardener13:
Since the card is registered in your name, having a garnishment at one bank basically means you're flagged across all of them where you hold accounts. The Federal Reserve communicates those orders to banks using your Social Security number, and once they get the mandate, the bank has to freeze and withdraw the specific amount owed.

@Steven Alvarez9:
The name itself—Mastercard Prepaid Card—pretty much tells you everything you need to know. It’s issued by Mastercard, so it should be accepted pretty much anywhere globally.
I wish I could tell you I actually took mine down to Australia to test it out, but I don't exactly have the budget for a trip like that right now ;-)))

I was wondering, can you actually withdraw money using this card via PayPal? Like, is it possible to sell stuff through PayPal and then pull those funds onto the card?

So, I’m thinking about heading down to Hypo to grab a Visa Prepaid Card—but wait, what currency would that even be in? My plan is to use it strictly for online shopping. Once the card actually shows up, I'll load some cash onto it, link it to my PayPal, and just go to town on the internet... Is that actually how this works? Am I overthinking it?

Or is it smarter to just open a foreign currency account at Erste and get a Visa Electron to link to PayPal instead?

Actually, could I just use my Go card from Chase to do all of this? I already have one, so it'd save me the massive headache of setting up something new...

Sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong spot... my bad.

Forgive me for stepping out of the main thread, but I’m honestly at a loss as to where else to ask. Does anyone know how to set up my PayPal so I can actually receive funds via email?
For instance, I want a friend to be able to transfer $33 from her account to mine.

I tried giving her my email address so she could send it over, but she's telling me it won't work because I haven't enabled that specific option. How on earth do I go about activating that?

Please help—this is becoming quite urgent.

I'd probably ask in the Venmo thread instead 🤷

How long does it actually take for that VISA Prepaid Card to show up—like, how much time passes before I can actually go grab the cash? I’m a little lost here.

I'm not entirely sure if you can even receive funds that way since it's a Visa Prepaid Gift Card.
Maybe it might be easier to just open a standard checking account at somewhere like JPMorgan Chase instead.

PayPal only settles onto a Visa card, and this one is a Mastercard...

Does anyone know when the transaction statements actually arrive?
I set mine up to be sent via email, thinking they’d show up by the 1st of the month, but nothing.

I’m thinking about picking up a new phone online using this Visa Prepaid Card, but I have some outstanding fines hanging over me. Is there any chance the government could just grab the money straight from this card?

Hi everyone, I have a quick question, and if anyone happens to know the answer, it would be a massive help. I’m still pretty much a novice when it comes to all this card and banking stuff... Basically, I set up a Visa Prepaid Card at Wells Fargo specifically so I could shop on eBay, and so far, it’s been working perfectly. Now, I find myself in a situation where I’m trying to sell something, and someone needs to send me a payment. So, I was wondering: can they actually transfer money directly onto this prepaid card? I assume it's possible, but then there's my second issue. There are two different numbers on the card—one long one above my name and a shorter one below my name. Which one of those is the actual card number I should give to the buyer so they can pay me? :S I really hope I've made sense here. My humble self would be incredibly grateful if someone could point me in the right direction. 😁

Well, you won't find an account number printed on the card itself because, you know, you're actually paying into a bank account that then funnels the funds onto the card—it works a bit differently that way! As for which number to use for the transfer, honestly, your best bet is just to pop into any local branch and ask them. They'll clear that right up for you!

Right now, PayPal only allows withdrawals to Visa cards. Consequently, you won't even be able to process a payout to this particular card. You'll see that clearly once you log in to PayPal.
