Sure thing...

Next time my wife gets a compliment from someone, I'll just march right up and ask if that's really what they meant. ☕

That sounds like a genius move. Good luck with that!

Got better things to do than waste my energy on this nonsense. 🙄

Do you lie to your girlfriend when you give her a compliment, or is that just how you roll? ☕

So they have to look elsewhere. 😁

There’s some truth to that... 😬

It seems to be clear evidence that most of you hold that exact same view.
Where is all this supposed self-confidence? Why on earth do you require constant validation through compliments, you insecure little creatures?

Look, I’m not an egotist—I don't go chasing compliments because, honestly, I’ve got enough self-assurance to know what I bring to the table without needing a cheering section. I’m pretty skeptical of people who throw praise around like confetti; usually, when someone's being that generous, there’s some kind of ulterior motive lurking underneath. I rarely hand out compliments myself, either—and when I do, it's reserved for my inner circle, the people I actually know and care about. For anyone else, those words just won't come out because it would feel fake—and let's be real, it probably would be. At the end of the day, if your confidence relies on everyone else telling you how great you are, yours is pretty damn fragile.

I mean, honestly, I could just shout at some random guy driving past me on the highway, "Hey, sick shirt!" and then just keep moving without a second thought. If I see something I dig, I’ll say it—no strings attached, no expectations of a response or anything. I don't need a pat on the back just for being real.

I mean, what does any of this actually have to do with love, romance, or sex? It feels more like we're diving deep into psychology here...

Look, that wasn't even what I was getting at. What does complimenting someone's t-shirt or whatever have to do with feeding an ego? Yelling out to a stranger that they have good taste isn't some grand gesture to boost their self-esteem—at least not in my book. It's really just letting them know you share the same vibe. That's it. Nothing more.

I’ve never been much for compliments; I find it hard to take them seriously, and honestly, they just make me feel a bit awkward.

But then again, maybe that’s just my own quirk.

Maybe it's because when I say something nice to someone, I actually mean it.

Through selflessness.🤣 😬

I actually fuel mine because, during my absolute lowest points, it was the one thing that kept my head above water. Though, I suppose one could debate whether that was actually a healthy way to go about it.😬

😂

Great thread—didn't realize we could start topics just to vent at people... Anyway, looks like you had quite the day. 😂

The ego is part of being human—it’s what drives us in certain situations. Nobody is so self-assured that they wouldn't want a compliment every now and then. If a compliment is fake, though, that says more about the liar than the person receiving it.

I'm guessing you're a prime example of someone who doesn't grasp why compliments matter. You clearly get it, otherwise you wouldn't be insulting people. And honestly? It wouldn't hurt to give someone a compliment once in a while—even if it's just to charm them.

Because they’re lacking the brainpower—I mean, when have you ever heard anyone call a literal dirt clod "advanced intelligence"?
