rustywalker42 said:The Washington Post reports that the economy is cooling off, but is anyone actually feeling it? Inflation is supposedly coming down, yet my grocery bill looks like a phone number. They say the job market is softening too—does that mean layoffs are around the corner? It’s always the same story. Big numbers on a screen versus reality in the checkout line. Who wins here? Not us.

http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpag...56C0A962958260

Is anyone actually looking at this? This article from the NYT hits on something everyone seems to be ignoring. We’re talking about the massive shift in global power, specifically how Asia is leveling the playing field. It's not just some minor adjustment; it's a total overhaul of the status quo. Are we really prepared for the economic weight shifting East? For decades, everything revolved around Western markets, but now the momentum is clearly moving elsewhere. You see the numbers, you see the growth—how can anyone claim it's just a temporary spike? It's a structural change. A complete redistribution of influence. Why does it feel like the West is still sleepwalking through this?

Check this out: http://wgordon.web.wesleyan.edu/papers/eeol.htm

The current state of the labor market? It’s a mess. You want to talk about employment trends? Fine. Let’s look at the numbers. Is the workforce actually shifting, or are we just spinning our wheels? Most people think they know what's happening with job availability and wages, but the data tells a different story. Are companies actually hiring, or are they just playing musical chairs with existing roles? It's complicated. The whole landscape is changing faster than anyone expected. What's the real goal here—stability or just survival?

Ever wonder why things move so slow in the corporate world over in Japan? Take a look at this. It’s the same old story of women hitting a massive glass ceiling. You read about the barriers they face—work culture, expectations, the whole nine yards—and you realize it's not just some minor hiccup. It’s a systemic grind. Why is it so hard to break through? Is it the rigid structure or just how things have always been done? Hard to say, but the data doesn't lie. Just another example of how much work still needs to be done.

Do yourself a favor and actually read these links. Give yourself a reality check, go splash some water on your face, and try to wake up.
It’s written "otkud," not "odkud." There's a vowel shift involved. Simple as that.

Got anything actually recent? Everything here except that first one is like ten years old, if not more. And even that first link just talks about some chauvinistic boss—there aren't any actual legal barriers stopping women from being treated as equals.

There's always a spellchecker, isn't there?😍

Or do you honestly think academics know everything about everything? If I gave a damn about linguistics, I would've gone to a prep school for languages and studied philosophy.☕

Whatever you say, man.

Look, it's simple: a regional engineering college has fewer majors, way more students per professor, a smaller budget, and lacks the cutting-edge tech you find at most top-tier Western universities... all that stuff directly impacts the quality of education.

What kind of logic is that?🤣 👎

☕

And this too.

Grades matter. You can't just expect to walk into a university with terrible grades.

It depends.☕

Really?

Check this out:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanotec...education#Asia

Universities in the USA alone have over 70% more clean rooms and specialized equipment than all the other countries on this list combined.

It’s about quality, not quantity. This stuff is something new for Iran, unlike the USA where they've had this going on for maybe a century.

And yeah, those guys in the gangs can be literate. It's not like learning to read is rocket science.

So you exist on paper too, huh?

So, you think academics actually have all the answers? Please. If I really wanted to obsess over linguistics, I would’ve gone to some fancy prep school and majored in philosophy.☕
Absolutely not. I assume people actually know how to write, so it’s a shock when I see who’s actually enrolled in college. High schools really need to tighten up their grading standards.
You tell me.

Look, I’m telling you. You can't even tell the difference between Iraq and Iran, let alone wrap your head around anything else. Seriously, how are you even functioning?

Look, let's be real. Compared to most major universities out West, the engineering school over in a mid-sized US city like Des Moines is struggling. Fewer specializations, way too many students crammed under a single professor, a tighter budget... they aren't exactly rocking the latest high-tech gear either. You do the math. All that adds up, doesn't it? It hits the quality of education hard.
More students per professor? Seriously? Have you actually seen his annual enrollment numbers? And just because he offers fewer majors now, does that make him any less qualified? Not even close. He specialized. That’s how it works. "He doesn't have the latest equipment?" Which equipment exactly? Give me names. Oh, and you conveniently forgot to mention the partnership with GE. But I guess according to you, that's just not worth mentioning, right?
What kind of logic is that?🤣👎
Pure logic.

[No content provided to rewrite]
Grades. You can't seriously expect to get into college with garbage grades. Seriously?
Hello? What kind of college admissions talk is that? I'm talking about degree recognition, not enrolling in school. I'm talking about graduate studies.

What do you mean, "how"? Seriously?☕
And what exactly is that supposed to mean to you?

Seriously?

Take this, for example:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nanotec...education#Asia

US universities alone have over 70% more clean rooms and specialized gear than all the other countries on this list combined.

Care to elaborate on what "the poet" actually meant by that?

Quality matters more than quantity. In Iran, this stuff is still new, unlike in the USA where they've had it for about a century.

What exactly is "new" in Iran?

And yeah, those guys in the band can actually write. It’s not exactly rocket science to learn.

🤣🤣🤣

They are. Absolutely. Obviously. I mean, 99% of the USA is literate.🤣

Look, that's just not true. Their parents already paid for that education through their taxes, so it isn't actually free.

Exactly. And in the USA, you pay like $40,000 a year for college. So, look—which sounds better to you? Dropping that kind of cash every single year, or paying for it through taxes?
If you love the American system so much, why are you complaining about being broke? Go ahead, man, move to the States and go to school there.

They’d probably head out if someone would just foot the bill.😍

I bet. And then they'd realize what happened.

Because right now I don't have the cash, and the field I want to get into is basically just PhD programs funded by the university. So I have to finish a bachelor's and probably a master's too if I want to get in for free.

No money? That same old story again, "I don't have the money." Look, you know how it works in the West: no money, no degree. Simple as that.
So, maybe be thankful you live in this backwater place—as bad as it might be—because at least it lets you go to school for free. If you were studying in the USA, you definitely wouldn't be doing it.

Pathetic.☕

Are you playing dumb or do you just not get it? Here in America, education is free because it’s funded by the taxes your parents pay. I couldn't care less about how things work in the States.

Nah, that's not how it works at all. You've got scholarships, you can work while you're in school, you can take out loans that you don't even have to start paying back until you graduate... and the top students get full rides...
Wow, that's low, even for you.

Are you actually playing dumb, or do you just not get it? In the US, education is free because it's funded by the taxes your parents pay. I couldn't care less about what happens in America.
Are you actually playing dumb, or do you just not get it? In the USA, you pay for your education—what part of that is confusing? You’re already dealing with the same taxes we have here, plus if you actually want a decent degree, you gotta shell out another $40,000 on top of it. Here, you just deal with the taxes. Seriously, what part of this isn't clicking?

Sure thing.☕

Nah, they’d be too busy trying to enjoy the perks of the promised land—the USA.🙄

[No text provided for rewriting.]
No, that's not how it works. You’ve got scholarships.
Who gets what?

Can you actually work while you're in college?

What kind of pay are we talking about here? Five bucks an hour? Seriously?

You can grab a loan and just sit on it without paying a dime until you finish school. And the top students? They get full rides through scholarships. Why wouldn't you?
Oh yeah, I forgot—you just walk into the bank for a loan and they hand it to you. Easy, right?😉

You honestly fascinate me. You managed to read roughly twenty pages of text in two minutes flat. I’m in awe.
How about you try reading it again? And this time, actually read it—don't just skim the headlines.
Look at the stats. Look at the average female salary compared to men: it's sitting at 63% of what a man makes.
It's all right there. Read it. Actually process it.

So, what’s the deal with this whole partnership with General Dynamics? Seriously, why would they even need to bring in world-class experts just to work on the machinery they're cranking out? I mean, let's be real here—top-tier specialists in mechanics, mechanical engineering, computer science, and all that good stuff moved on to much bigger fish to fry a long time ago. They aren't exactly sitting around waiting to design parts for combines, tractors, handguns, or tanks anymore. There's way more important stuff happening in the world than that.

FYI, there are actual requirements for getting into a graduate program. I'm assuming you know that, otherwise, why would you post something so incredibly dense?

Over here, it’s just the taxes. Honestly, which part of that isn't clicking for you?

Look, we aren't talking about people born and raised here in the States. We’re talking about the international students—the ones who pack up their entire lives to come over to the USA to get an education. That's the distinction.

Nah, it’s more like they’d just be sitting back, soaking up all the perks and the good life in the promised land—the USA.🙄

Screw the USA. Honestly, they can't even get basic stuff right—like having decent healthcare or actual, solid labor laws that protect people. But hey, I guess that’s the trade-off, right? They’ve got the absolute best schools and top-tier R&D centers in the world, so that's where all the juice is.

rustywalker42;14089161 said:So, who actually walks away with what?]

It really depends on which college you’re looking at, honestly. It mostly comes down to whether you're going into one of those high-demand fields where there's a massive labor shortage. At most universities, if you can actually grind hard enough to hit that top 10% bracket and manage to stay there, you can usually score a full ride.

Look, if you want to go for it, go for it. If not, whatever. But honestly? I’d much rather grind away for five bucks an hour for a year while I’m hitting the books at a state university than spend my entire life stuck making five bucks an hour. It's about the long game, you know?

No need for an explanation. You’ve already proven exactly how literate you are. Save the "I can be articulate when I want to be" routine for someone who actually buys it. Honestly? It scares me just thinking about what one of your seminars would look like.

What kind of partnership is this with ĐĐ? Seriously, why would they need to hire world-class experts just to build the machines they’re pumping out? All those top-tier specialists in mechanical engineering, computer science, and tech moved on to much bigger things ages ago. They aren't exactly busy designing tractor parts, farm equipment, or tanks anymore. Why bother?
Exactly. Everything you just said? Totally irrelevant. Pure garbage, really. But hey, I guess that’s what keeps food on your table, right?

Just so you know, there are actual requirements for grad school enrollment. I’m assuming you knew that—otherwise, why would you post something so incredibly stupid?

Just so you know, academic achievements don't actually matter at every university—maybe at a handful of them. And guess what? Your GPA isn't even printed on your diploma.

Quality matters. You can't exactly teach the subject if you don't have the right gear.
Like what, for example?

Education? It’s non-negotiable.
Oh, really? And how long exactly are we talking about here? Give me some actual arguments for once.

So, you're telling me you're smarter than the actual experts who did all the research? Really?

Chill out with that ego.

Look, one thing is absolutely certain: I'm smarter than you.
As for these so-called experts? There’s no real science here. These guys just ran some basic statistical survey—they didn't touch fluid mechanics once. Honestly, any literate grandma could have put this together.
My whole point? It’s absolute garbage to judge a university just by counting how many Nobel laureates teach there or how many papers they dump into Nature and science. Seriously? That’s such a load of crap when you consider the massive amount of specialized professional journals out there.

I’m talking about people who finish their degree back in their home country for whatever reason (usually because it's free), rather than here in the USA. They only come here later for grad school or higher degrees.

Hey, if you want to work, work. If not, don't. Better to make five bucks an hour for a year and go to college than to make five bucks an hour for the rest of your life.

Oh sure, just use that paycheck to cover tuition, rent, AND utilities. Go right ahead.

The brave freedom fighters of Afghanistan are out there threatening girls just because they dared to learn how to read and write instead of sitting at home in some ninja squad waiting for their master...

If it weren't so tragic, it would actually be funny...

But they’re just fools living their lives.
I feel for their women..😳..I truly do.
When you realize what is actually happening in today's world, I find myself thanking God for my own life, and for the lives of women born into a civilized society.
By "civilized," I am strictly referring to two things: freedom of thought and freedom of speech—rights that, unfortunately, some people simply cannot grasp.
The Islamic system is identical to slavery... actually, it's worse..
I live in a society where I encounter all sorts of nationalities every single day.
Some of them are so narrow-minded.. it's disgusting.. honestly.. I have some genuine gaps in my understanding here, so I’ll ask the Muslims or anyone more informed than me to clarify this for me..
For instance, one idiot Arab woman told my friend (who is a Muslim woman) why she doesn't cover herself. Right then, another lunatic attacks her, claiming that when she dies, she'll burn in hell and end up in a place resembling our version of damnation..
To be spouting that kind of nonsense in this day and age.. 🙄..
Now, my friend, just to spite her, keeps asking me when we're going out for a pork dinner🤣..which caused this woman to lose her mind, insisting that pigs are "unclean." (They try to use that as an insult against us, failing to realize that for Christians, that isn't an insult at all.. Is that really all they have to say?)
That was my breaking point..
Knowing what I know about her, I first told her politely that nothing is filthier than her child—a product of siblings being born to a brother and sister—but the poor thing isn't to blame; it's just a symptom of the sick mindset of the world it lives in.. then I told her she’s a stinking bitch who, if she insists on living however she wants, shouldn't dictate how others live.
She stood there defending marriages between brothers and sisters, girls and uncles, cousins, and even closer relatives (I lost track... sounds like incest by modern standards🙄).. all while framing it within Islam.. meanwhile, my friend argued that Muslims from Canada don't follow that version of Islam.
I trust my friend.. though it makes no sense to me how one clings to one version of Islam (a disaster) while another follows something else.. Isn't Islam supposed to be one thing?
Who knows the truth here, and who is just pretending?

Homeini, do you have a sister?
Would you let her go to school?

😁 😁 😁 In circumstances like those, it's easiest to just say she doesn't exist!

Plus, this is nothing but Western propaganda—purely Zionist, obviously. Before 9/11, Americans were more than happy to play nice with the Taliban.

Look, I never even brought up Shiites in my post...

Listen, you idiot, he’s literally holding an Iranian flag.😂

Let me set the record straight since you clearly have no clue. The USA pumped more money into the Taliban regime than any single Muslim nation ever did. When those "liberators" showed up, they promised women would finally breathe easy—told them they could ditch the burkas, dress how they wanted, just live free. What happened? Even a few British journalists ended up wearing burkas, and Afghan women are still stuck in them. Take your filthy version of democracy back home to where generals spend years raping their own daughters.

Sure, sure... blame democracy when someone turns out to be a complete freak. Around here, that kind of behavior gets people revolted, but over there, stuff like this is just business as usual—hardly even worth a second thought. It’s nothing new to you guys, I guess...

Democracy isn't really your thing, I'll give you that. You guys are basically stuck in the Middle Ages, kind of like where Europe was 500 years ago when the Church ran everything. It's like you're caught somewhere between the Crusades and the witch trials, obsessing over all these crazy ideas about Islamic Revolutions. You actually remind me a lot of those early Communists fighting over who was the most hardcore "true" believer—whether it was Marshall, Stalin, or Mao. Now, people are spreading all this nonsense about the "true" Iran versus all the "traitors," just like how Stalin used to smear Marshall as some big traitor.
