So, here’s the situation—I was browsing through this one shop (not to give them free advertising, mind you!) and I noticed they’re offering something that sounds almost too good to be true: you can pay with a Dunkin' card in up to 12 interest-free installments, and they’ll even throw in a 10% discount on your total bill. It strikes me as incredibly suspicious.
Does anyone here have any insight into what the catch might be? Are we talking about hidden fees buried in the fine print, or is there some other kind of psychological trick at play? 😕

Thanks!

Not even an issue. I’ve been paying it this way for like 6 years now. Honestly, the interest is basically peanuts—just a few bucks coming out of my account.

So, if that's the case, where exactly is Diners's profit coming from?

I’m the new guy in The Diners family, so if anyone could drop some tips 'n' tricks, I would be SUPER grateful! Honestly, I just got my card a few days ago, and now I'm kind of freaking out about messing something up. I mean, I get the basics—it's a credit card, you pay back what you agreed to in installments, and if there's interest, it's just whatever Diner's rate is set at, right? But I'm looking for those little details they don't exactly broadcast to you!
THNX! 😁

Hey, could someone please tell me how long the whole card issuance process actually takes? I mean—from the moment you fill out the application and mail in the form until the physical card is sitting right there in your wallet. Just a rough estimate would be great. Thanks!

I filled out my application online through the JPMorgan Chase website, and it took them about ten days or so. From what I heard, they have to run things internally with your employer to verify all the info you put on the form... Just give it a few extra days, more or less. 👍

Hey, I'm starting a new thread here because I just picked up a student Diners Club card. Quick question: what's the minimum amount required to use an installment plan? I heard somewhere that it has to be more than $167, but is that actually true, or is it totally up to the merchant? Also, if my credit limit is, say, $1667, and I buy a laptop for $2000 using 12 monthly installments, does the part that exceeds my limit (that extra $333) get charged all at once next month, or is the whole thing spread out over the 12 months?
Anything else I should watch out for, like interest rates or random fees? Any info helps.🙂

There is absolutely no way, man, because if your limit is 5000 then the total sum of everything you spend simply cannot exceed that number, otherwise you'll just get a little slip of paper telling you insufficient funds I've tried it myself and seen it happen firsthand. It won't even process online either. It really would be nice if it actually worked like that, wouldn't it?🙂

The funniest thing about Diners Club is they’ll start spamming you with texts before you even see the physical card!
I only applied for it as a backup in case my American Express didn't come through. Once that arrives, I'll be canceling this one.

I’ve been listening to all this noise about Diners Club, but honestly? I think it just comes down to self-control. Even that 11% interest rate isn't actually that terrifying if you aren't reckless...
It sounds kind of stupid because when you're young, you feel invincible. Like, if you have the cash upfront, who cares how you pay it back later? But man, you gotta be careful—you only live once... 😁
Anyway, I finally got my PIN for withdrawing cash from a Diners Club ATM today, but that’s exactly the kind of thing I’m never going to do. I got this card to make paying for stuff easier, not to pull out twenty bucks just to watch it hit my bill next month... 😲

When I signed up for my American Express, I set my billing cycle to run from the 1st to the 7th of the month. But they just sent me my statement today on the 23rd, and it says the due date is November 27th.😕 That doesn't sit right with me. What happens if I wait until, say, December 5th to pay them? Am I going to get hit with interest?

P.S. Has anyone actually used that online bill pay option? Does that also charge those extra fees, like the ones you get when you're pulling cash out of an ATM?

They’ll hit you with interest immediately. If you’re even a day late, they start circling. Ten days in, you get a formal notice in the mail, and if you don't pay up, they just tack on an extra fee for the trouble $10

You can actually adjust your billing cycle through the American Express online portal...
It’s safe to assume they charge that 5% fee—similar to an ATM withdrawal... $333-$20 at least, that's my impression.

Yeah, I know you can tweak the payment dates there. I actually did it the day before yesterday. Set my primary window from the 8th to the 14th, and my secondary one from the 1st to the 7th. But looking at when the next statement closes, it says December 19th. 🙄So basically, the bill is still hitting me at the end of the month.😠

Quick question about American Express.

I feel a bit silly starting a new thread now, but I’m hoping someone might actually see this...

So, I have a student credit card that expires this April since it's tied to my standard American Express account. They’ll be sending out the new cards toward the end of March—both the regular one and the student credit card.

As of February 12th, my available credit is at zero, so I can still make purchases, but I was wondering if I could put something on a three-month installment plan? My reasoning is that the third payment would fall in April, right when my new cards arrive.

Does that change anything? I've been trying to call American Express all day, but nobody is picking up the phone. 😠

I reckon you can.
Btw, why aren't you in college yet? If you are, just grab a student credit card as your main one—it isn't tied to anything else, and your parents can set the limit. I’ve got one myself (just started freshman year) and my limit is $1667. The annual fee is only $17 a year.

That isn't actually the case. My limit is $1333, and I bought a laptop for $2667 using an installment plan, and everything went through perfectly fine.

It doesn't matter, really, because your spending limit is tied to your main card anyway, so you're fine. As for Applebee's and their phone line, they changed their numbers. Try calling 4929-555 on a weekday between 8 AM and 8 PM. They're kind of behind the times when it comes to returning calls, so I guess you just have to be a bit more persistent...
