Jeffrey Castillo77 said:It’s something I experience quite frequently, mostly during those hazy moments right at the onset of sleep, just before I’ve fully drifted off into unconsciousness...

Sometimes it feels like I'm dreaming that I'm walking and suddenly lose my footing, which triggers this sudden, jarring twitch, or perhaps it's just a random muscle spasm without any dream involved at all...

Same here... most of the time it feels like I've stumbled into something, and then my whole body just jolts. 🙂

I keep having these dreams where I'm just plummeting, and then I suddenly jerk awake. That sensation of falling mid-sleep is honestly pretty terrifying.

Thomas Ward2 said:Ever get that weird sensation in a dream where you’re just... falling? Like the ground suddenly disappears from under you? And then—BAM—your whole body jerks so hard you snap wide awake. Did you actually feel like you were falling while it was happening?

If anyone knows what's actually going on with this phenomenon, I'd love an explanation!

Thanks

Technically, that's called SLEEP PARALYSIS.
When we're in REM sleep, our bodies are naturally paralyzed—muscles relax and certain spinal connections cut off. It's a totally normal part of the sleep cycle. The glitch happens when things get messy during that phase and you wake up before the paralysis wears off. You're conscious, but stuck. It isn't dangerous, just incredibly unsettling. Usually handled pretty well with certain medications.

Then, when you're coming back down to earth, you dream about falling—something that actually happens quite a bit right as you're drifting off.
During that middle ground, you might find yourself fully aware of everything around you while your physical body feels completely paralyzed—it’s because the astral body hasn't fully reconnected yet. Think of the physical body as "dead" matter without that link; in fact, that break in connection between the two is basically what we call death.

These things are perfectly natural, so there's really no reason to freak out or think something is wrong with you medically—though, I'll admit, it can definitely feel a bit unsettling at times.

PS
Flying and falling can also carry symbolic weight in your dreams, but honestly, you'll have to figure out what that means for yourself—everyone's interpretation is different.

You basically stole my exact words. I'm with you on this.🙂

I swear, I start twitching right as I’m drifting off—you know, that weird little limbo state? I’m still totally aware of everything happening around me, but my brain just refuses to let go of the reins

Most of the time it’s just my right leg jerking (which isn't great since I already walk a bit clumsy and trip over nothing), but lately, it’s moved up to my arm, and now even my hips
The arm thing happens if I’m actually focusing on something I’m doing with it—so it’s definitely not random—but the hip twitch? That hits whenever I’m thinking about... well, *those* kinds of things
There was this one time back in February, during the day under really bright lights, where I stayed awake way longer than usual. I jerked so hard it felt like someone had shoved me onto a mechanical bull at a bar; I practically launched myself off the couch

Man, that just happened out of nowhere and totally spooked me, haha!
It’s definitely not a vibe, but luckily, it doesn't happen to me that often.
