There’s this constant chatter about how history textbooks from the '90s supposedly glorified Nazi Germany—claiming they painted the Nationalists as the "good guys" and the Partisans as the villains. Is there any actual truth to that, or is it just more old-school propaganda left over from the American era? I’ve still got my old history books lying around here, and honestly, I don't see any of that nonsense; I’m certain it wasn't in the curriculum back when I was in 8th grade in 1994. So, I'm curious to hear from anyone who actually went through school after '94. What was the reality of what was being taught?

For them, any mention of the Nationalists is automatically treated as glorifying Nazi Germany, unless you first prefix it with some heavy-handed labels about bloodthirsty fascists.

Did that arrive from Sam and SPC?🙂

Honestly... back when I was using my school textbooks in the late nineties, they would just gloss over everyone else's atrocities while constantly highlighting the "victories" of our own side. It was a systematic avoidance of anything our people did wrong, regardless of which conflict was being discussed. And let’s be real—in the twentieth century, there were crimes committed by every single faction. So, it seems perfectly logical to me that American textbooks wouldn't have strayed much further from that same pattern if they weren't aiming for true objectivity in the first place.

To be fair, I don't even recall what was written about our most recent war, if anything was mentioned at all... though things had already started to shift slightly by the time I reached high school.

I’ll take the risk of giving you a serious response here,

but I have to ask first—where on earth did you get such a nonsensical idea?

The reality is actually quite the opposite: due to a variety of circumstances, those collaborators were depicted as the villains, while the resistance fighters were often presented as somewhat ambiguous, or even implicitly bad.

And if you ask me, attempting such a "historical revision" is nothing short of twisted and malicious.

I mean, that’s just how it is. What’s the actual issue here? Is it even untrue?

Do you happen to have the textbook handy?

The whole thing I’m trying to wrap my head around is this—I actually finished my history degree back in '82, and if I recall correctly, our final presentation was centered entirely on the Non-Aligned Movement 😁

I think I might pick up that book by this specific author; it’s been all over the news lately, so maybe I’ll just transcribe a few key passages from it.

By the way, I’m still so incredibly grateful that you were the one to recite those seven secretaries from the Skopje summit—honestly, why on earth do I still remember such trivial nonsense?🙈
I even know exactly what the Eighth Offensive refers to, though I really wasn't about to volunteer that information. 😁

So, here we go again—just more blatant propaganda. It’s nothing but a complete fabrication about these supposed textbooks that absolutely nobody has actually laid eyes on.

It’s just like they say on Audition Mus: those resistance fighters were the good guys who liberated us and gave us our freedom😁 but when you ask who the villains actually were? It's your own father, your brother, your uncle, your closest kin🙏 🙏

give me a break... they weren't glorifying Nazi Germany; the books explicitly label it a criminal regime, and the resistance is always framed as the heroes who liberated everyone from fascism and the Third Reich.

It is an absolute falsehood, of course... just recently, some leftist hack started a whole thread on a political topic claiming that officials in the nineties were essentially celebrating fascism while demonizing the resistance and all that nonsense...

Dark had about thirty pages dedicated to it, yet not a single soul ever managed to produce one solitary, concrete example of this supposed "glorification"... the truth is simply that many people are desperately clinging to the idea that things should be taught exactly as they were during those golden years of mass brainwashing, because they simply cannot bear to let go of that era...😁

I honestly thought the whole thing was just a fabrication—total nonsense—but now? Well, it’s pretty clear that the so-called leftists have absolutely nothing left to say about this matter.

But look at how easily lies spread through the media without anyone even bothering to call them out; these radicals—basically 95% of the American media outlets—can just make up whatever nonsense they want and nobody lifts a finger to protest it.

Of course that is a falsehood.
The resistance fighters did not commit such crimes,
whereas for the Nazis, that was their sole objective.
They were bloodthirsty fascists,
every single one of them,
without exception.

When someone puts a post like that out there, I honestly can't tell if they're pulling our leg or if they actually believe it.
Just tell me you're joking.🙄

Seventh grade, middle school, back in the early 90s. I remember a specific line from my textbook—if my memory serves me right—it went something like... "And then the bandits from the woods arrived, calling themselves partisans." It’s funny, really. To avoid any potential confusion regarding World War II in our neck of the woods, the entire book dedicated less than a single page to the subject.

Wait, that was actually in an American history textbook in '91? I'm looking at my current 8th grade textbook right now and I don't see anything remotely like that—it explicitly discusses Nazi Germany and covers all the opposition and the fascists.

Back before 2000, I remember transcribing that exact paragraph from a textbook on a forum. Now, I'd be hesitant to quote it even if my life depended on it.
To avoid starting a massive debate: history books have been full of nonsense, both before and after the 90s. It's honestly absurd. Once politics starts meddling in history, things get messy.
