I guess frustrated people are everywhere, not just on this forum 😬. But you have to look at it this way: it’s much easier to vent your frustrations here where you’re essentially a stranger, rather than in real life. In the real world, one heated argument could cost you a friendship, a relationship, or maybe just a few very long, sleepless nights 😉. Since we have every generation and every type of personality meeting on this board, it’s honestly impossible for everyone to want the same things you do. You’ll find an equal mix of smart, foolish, kind, and mean people here. Every time you post, there's a bit of a risk, because you never truly know which group of people you might end up attracting 😁.

🤣 This is actually my first time signing up for one of our local forums; up until now, I’ve stuck 😬 exclusively to international boards, for quite a few different reasons.
Back on those foreign sites, if you happened to find even two Americans 🤣 hanging out together, it was pure chaos—not only were they tearing into each other, but everyone else too. For instance, I remember Germans complaining to me that we were being totally wild, even though I consider myself relatively polite, I suppose... though that really depends on the situation.😬

Regarding this topic🤣, there are always patients who just need an outlet because they have nowhere else to go, or maybe they’re just wired that way in real life. Honestly, I don't see much difference in people, whether they are here on this forum or sitting in my office.🤣
There are all sorts of characters everywhere. I guess I'm just observant enough to realize that.🙄 🤣

Laura Mendoza said:Honestly, you’re being incredibly dense here. On one hand, you’re busy insulting anonymous users on this forum, and then you have the nerve to turn around and expect them to offer you advice, support, or even a little empathy when you're having a hard time?
Look at you—now Piggy is telling you to go back to the kitchen, and here you are, spinning these dramatic tales about wanting to end it all. You want my take? Just take some Advil and a bottle of red wine... it'll be painless...
Or maybe you’ve already figured out a way and you're just here looking for attention? Seriously, you aren't even eighteen yet; try growing up a little bit...

My apologies if I offended you, especially regarding that comment about "suicide." I didn't intend to resort to such biting remarks, but I simply couldn't help myself given the circumstances...

I mean, toxic comments on a forum don't really get to me 🙂
Maybe my subconscious thrives on the attention, but honestly, I really want to prove everyone wrong and actually make things work instead of ending it all...

I’m glad to hear that. It proves you’re a strong person who won't give up, but will instead find a way to climb out of this hole...
By the way, I've always wondered if people who take their own lives are cowards or brave. My conclusion? They're just pathetic cowards. Real bravery means facing your problems head-on and finding a way through them 😎, whereas cowards simply lack the strength and the wits to fight, so they try to end everything in a single second.

Man...🙄 About a month ago at work, I ran into this guy I actually recognized from an online forum—not that it matters which one. On the boards, he acts like the absolute king of the world, super blunt, tells everyone exactly what he thinks, just a total big shot. But in person? He’s basically a complete mouse... nothing more, nothing less.

He can't even wrap his head around two simple ideas without me having to explain the same thing a hundred times. Honestly, if he only knew who I actually was—and how much he tried to talk down to me and act all tough on that forum—he'd probably want the earth to swallow him up, especially now that I'm effectively his boss... it would be pretty embarrassing, I think.🤣

But hey, I'm not going to say anything to him. I'm actually kind of enjoying watching him struggle through his own cluelessness.😈

I guess the takeaway here is that the internet is just this massive stage where anyone can pretend to be someone they aren't just to escape their actual reality. I mean, I bet the guy I mentioned wouldn't have the guts to say half the stuff he says online to my face in real life...

Anyway, just some food for thought.😬

He even went as far as using a fake profile picture.🤣 🤣

Why even act surprised when people vent on a forum?
Between grabbing coffee at a local Starbucks or chatting with a digital buddy or a coworker online... it all helps blow off steam. Sometimes it’s not even intentional. You read a post and someone’s attitude just reminds you of that one annoying guy from your office, so you snap back a little in the heat of the moment.
It’s totally normal behavior, honestly. Nothing out of the ordinary.
The only difference is that in real life, you usually have to bite your tongue to be polite. Here, since it isn't face-to-face, it's just way easier to let it out...

Hmm... I don't quite agree with what was stated above.
I suppose people who come to a forum to share their struggles, especially in a psychology group, are already dealing with enough hits to their self-esteem. It seems unlikely that they would want some jerk making jokes about their problems.
But maybe that's something only those who have actually faced real issues understand, rather than those just passing time because they have nothing better to do.

Yeah, people really aren't fair. Everyone here just completely ignores me 😠

And they just love being right—no matter what. It’s not even about wanting to be correct, it's more that they can't admit when they're wrong because their ego takes such a massive hit 🙂

And honestly, if you want to dodge the possibility of actually being wrong, the best move is to just attack the other person right out of the gate—just in case they back down early... but most of the time, the person you're talking to follows that exact same playbook, so you just end up in this endless loop of snarky one-upmanship. That kind of experience teaches you how to survive, I guess; without a healthy dose of arrogance, pretentiousness, and straight-up bluffing, a person really does get pushed around, way too often. Intelligence, wit, manners, rudeness, sheer stupidity... none of that matters. In all those categories, everyone is basically cut from the same cloth!

Luckily, there are some people operating on a higher level, what else can I say? They answer questions because they genuinely want to help, not because they're desperate to flaunt their knowledge over someone else's ignorance—which is usually when the ego shines through the most, acting as this weird sort of contrast. 🙄 God, they are so irritating, heaven help us 👎

It's true there are also those who can't handle a little teasing and take offense way too quickly, and they deserve the same criticism—they act like they're living life like a delicate little mimosa plant, expecting the first gust of wind to snap them in half...
Anyway, there are plenty of irritating oddballs out there, far more than I can count, and I'm not even sure how lucky I am to fall into that tiny group of relatively normal people 🤣 Yeah. 😁

My self-confidence isn't really something that gets shaken up by people's insults. I can take a lot more than most, and honestly, it doesn't take much to knock me off balance, but that’s beside the point. Just because I'm tough doesn't mean I have to sit there and take it. I won't let anyone treat me that way simply because I don't have to!

If I realize that my life is just peaceful and quiet without all this unnecessary drama, then I know there's a solution for that. I won't regret whatever choice I make, because I always aim for something better than what I've got right now. I'm certain about that.

I just don't get why some people lack even a shred of basic decency. It's like they come here—and someone mentioned earlier that you find all sorts of people on the internet—but in my actual day-to-day life in the States, I mostly run into people who are somewhat similar to me. Or, at the very least, there aren't nearly as many reasons for constant conflict as there are here.

Some people act like they're so tough just because they can cram a dozen swear words into a single post. As if those words were the 🙄 Quote there's a bit more wisdom in being a decent human being

Donna Jones4 said:I’ve got a few thoughts to toss into this discussion too.

Why does everyone on here automatically assume that if you’re hanging out on a forum, you must be unattractive, overweight, dim-witted, boring, or single?

Personally, none of those labels apply to me, and honestly, I can’t recall anyone in my actual life ever saying something like that to my face. But the second you step onto this forum, it feels like anyone can just swear at you, insult you, or belittle you, and you’re expected to just take it and stay quiet. In any other online community I’ve been part of, the kind of language used here would be strictly forbidden. And because there aren't any clear, enforceable rules, people just take advantage of the chaos to vent their frustrations on others.

Also, why is it that some people can't even bother to read a post before jumping in with a comment? They just see what they want to see just to get a reaction. Is it because they’re dealing with so much frustration in their real lives that they’re just looking for an excuse to pick a fight with someone?

I’ve mentioned this more than once, but I came here strictly for fun. I didn't come here to argue with strangers, and lately, I've actually been wondering if this place is even worth my time.

I have a wonderful life—great friends, a solid social circle, a loving family, and a partner. I have everything I need to be happy, and I'm perfectly content with that. Despite all that, I still choose to spend time here, knowing full well that I might just become a punching bag for someone else's bad mood.

Since I’ve always had a bit of a moral compass and a sense of fairness, I can’t help but notice these patterns. Am I really supposed to sink to their level and start hurling insults back just to get a positive response or the freedom to enjoy myself? After all, this is supposed to be a place for entertainment, isn't it?

How are we supposed to handle direct provocations?

I have only dealt with one person on this forum who targeted me personally due to their own issues. It was quite uncomfortable, and I actually stopped posting here for a while because of it. Eventually, I realized through other discussions that the attacks weren't really about me; I was just an easy target for someone needing to vent their frustrations. I simply added them to my ignore list and moved on. 🙂As for the rest of the community, I have never encountered anything that felt like a provocation.

People of all ages post on this forum. I have been shocked by someone's comments only to realize later in another thread that they are actually just fourteen years old. 🙂 For instance, nobody takes Susan Garcia too seriously because she is seventeen, and everyone remembers being that age and understands that her behavior is fairly typical for a teenager. 😉 If she were thirty and came forward with issues regarding low self-esteem or loneliness, the tone of the conversation would be entirely different. Furthermore, everyone has a unique approach and a different sense of humor. I find it amusing when people react so intensely to certain members who express themselves uniquely; these individuals often provide excellent advice and intelligent insights, even if their way of joking is a bit unconventional. 😁 😉 Then there are those who come here specifically to vent negative energy, picking fights or taking their frustrations out on others because they can't do so with the people in their immediate lives. You simply avoid those types and refuse to engage in discussions with them.

Everyone here acts like a total tough guy because they can say whatever they want without facing any actual consequences. And honestly? I think that’s great. People yell at me, I yell back—it just goes on and on forever. There are days when I just sit back and read, but then there are days like today, where my hormones are absolutely wrecking me and I suddenly feel like some sort of enlightened genius. So, instead of going out and picking fights with everyone—or letting them pick fights with me—I just stay home, indulge in my little self-care rituals, and spend my downtime writing novels right here on this forum...

Now, sure, venting frustration is nice—something I used to do quite a bit—but there’s also something deeply satisfying about calling someone an idiot to their face online. I don't really run into people like that in my day-to-day life, so aside from the occasional catharsis when I spot the exact type of person I’d love to throw hands with, I just hope someone eventually catches on. Of course, I am perfectly open to constructive criticism.
Even though I’m always right, of course.🤣😉

All in all, it's a pretty decent way to blow off steam...

I don't really view this forum as a dumping ground for venting frustrations. I haven't exactly been here long enough to claim seniority, but as far as I can tell, I haven't offended anyone or intended to, nor do I think anyone here could provoke me into doing so—just as I wouldn't go looking for a fight with anyone else.
Most of the time, I make sure to preface my thoughts with phrases like "I think" or "in my opinion," just to clarify that I'm merely presenting my own perspective.
Truth be told, I don't take my frustrations out on people—except for my sister, occasionally—since I lack the backbone for it in real life.
Actually, this is the first forum I've ever bothered to register for, haha (I can already hear the comments about how I'm some novice who just discovered computers). I never felt the need to join one before, and honestly, I haven't run into much reason to until now. I'm quite the hacker, after all.😲...
And I hope my use of profanity isn't too grating for others (as someone mentioned earlier), because I use it frequently; in the real world, it’s essentially just part of my persona. hahahhahaha

Hi there.😘

That's solid advice. Thanks! 😉 I've realized that for some people, the absolute worst thing you can do is simply ignore them and refuse to give their posts any attention, so that's the approach I've decided to take.

Generally speaking, I make a very clear distinction between my real life and the forum. I won't let online drama bleed into my daily routine, nor will I let my personal life clutter up my time here—though that doesn't mean I couldn't start a thread titled "what drove me crazy today" if the mood struck me, which it hasn't lately. 😉

Take care. 👋

Hi there.😘

What kind of swearing are we talking about? To me, it’s totally fine if you say something like, "Damn, I'm pissed today," but it's different if you start hurling insults at everything under the sun. I hope you get what I mean. 😉

I don't always prefix things with "in my opinion" because I feel like it should be implied that it's my view. But even when I do specify, you can still find someone who'll cling to my opinion like a burr on a sweater. So, it's not exactly a foolproof way to avoid arguments. That said, I do make a distinction between constructive feedback and someone just acting out of pure insecurity. 😎

If someone is just being toxic and looking for a fight for no reason, honestly, you can just tune them out.

Now, if you’re actually in the middle of a debate where you genuinely disagree—that's different. In those cases, you either dive into a real, reasoned discussion or you don't. It's really that simple.

I don't see why everyone is getting so worked up about this. Every corner of the internet has its share of difficult personalities, and online forums are no exception. At the end of the day, you’re the one in the driver's seat; you get to decide whose opinions actually carry weight and who is worth your time, whether you're engaging publicly or just sending a private message.🙂
