Usually, it’s the people with lower IQs who get intoxicated by it, though highly intelligent people are just as susceptible. This isn't necessarily the pathological narcissism caused by childhood trauma; it's often just ego, and it tends to vanish once a person is brought back down to earth. Honestly, I think this thread is off-target. People with very high IQs are definitely different, and they often display the kind of arrogance this little Iža guy just showed. That arrogance often stems from the massive gap between them and everyone else; it leads to intolerance and defensive mechanisms when both groups clash. In many cases, it's the low-IQ individuals who are at fault, feeling threatened and unable to see that these "geniuses" aren't actually smarter than them. Similarly, the "modesty" he mentions likely refers to how people with low IQs will try to lecture you or act superior as they climb the career ladder, even when they know they'll eventually be working under someone much sharper. They seem to think intelligence is something you can acquire through effort, like any other skill. It's like beauty: if you don't have it, you strive for it, and if you happen to fix it with a medical miracle, you feel untouchable. Why so many threads about intelligence? Why are people so obsessed with it? It doesn't actually help you in life, especially not here in America.

Ps Neobanned, I honestly don't get this obsession with Mensa testing. From where I’m sitting, nobody in this circle is cracking scores north of 180—except for me, if I do say so myself—so any test measuring above 167 is just chasing ghosts. It's completely irrelevant to the audience at a local Mensa chapter.

Each question is worth 33 IQ points.
I managed to nail five of them, which puts me at a 165.

Look, narcissism isn't something you can ever really justify, but I get how people might feel totally unheard sometimes, and they end up reacting in ways that others mislabel as being narcissistic when it’s actually just pure frustration.
But if they have a tendency toward it, then yeah, they do...
Though, honestly, that whole mediocre upbringing plays a part too; most of the time you're dealing with people who aren't actually happy with themselves, feeling like they missed out on certain things in life, so they try to overcompensate by acting big and obsessing over one specific trait, like their IQ or whatever.
Just to throw my own two cents into the mix, I always feel like deep down everyone
these types of people basically just look down on everyone else, and when they don't seem to be doing that...
It’s really just a matter of some people being better at playing the part than others...

If I may share my own perspective—I often get the feeling that deep down, most
individuals actually look down on others; when they don't, it feels like...
they're just better at hiding it.
If that were truly the case, the world would be a pretty dark place—not even calling it miserable, just dark. 😁 Personally, I know there are plenty of people who have moved past things like condescension or ego. Sure, you see it everywhere, but I can't agree with the idea that there aren't those who have actually outgrown it.
