Goodness, I've been hanging around here since Christmas 2006, and I've already racked up over 4,000 posts.
What do you all get up to when you aren't busy working?
I'm currently between jobs, and while I find it a bit tough to get out much lately, I do try to make an effort to head outdoors now and then.
Honestly, though, I feel like I'm losing interest in almost everything...

Do you struggle with agoraphobia or something?

It’s true, I have certainly noticed how you seem to be everywhere at once across all the different subforums, maintaining such a prolific posting record. Please, do keep up the great work; I truly enjoy following your insights, though I think it might be nice if you stepped out from behind the screen and joined us in person every once in a while.

Why is it such a struggle for you to get outside, briskgull27? I honestly deal with that same feeling more often than I'd like to admit, though I usually just force myself to get moving anyway... and, well, you really have to. Even on the days when there isn't any obligation, I still try to make an effort to head out somewhere and catch up with friends.

Look, if you’ve got a laptop, just hop online while you’re sitting at around fifty percent battery, then don't be stingy with the charger—just let the thing run until it completely dies. Go grab a coffee, take a long walk, or instead of a quick rinse in the shower tonight, actually sit in a tub for a while or go down a rabbit hole testing out every single moisturizer and hair gel you own. Put on some old CDs, sign up for an aerobics class, or go hit up a local library to borrow some foreign language textbooks and work through a few pages every day. Stock up on DVDs and make sure you watch at least one every single night, or honestly, just get a pet if you haven't already... If you can actually pull all that off and survive the boredom, the addiction won't stand a chance.😉
No, seriously, try one of these things when the cravings start hitting hard! I really hope it helps!🙂

Look, I went through the exact same thing for a while. I didn't even want to hang out with my friends because I was so sucked into 😲

Then my parents—since we were moving and spent half a year staying at my grandma's place—cut off my internet access entirely. It was rough at first, but I eventually broke the habit and honestly, I didn't miss it one bit.
Now that I finally have access again, the addiction is slowly (and I mean *slowly*) creeping back, but I'm trying to stay in control.
At the end of the day, it's just like any other addiction; you have to build some mental toughness. 😁

There are some solid points here. Honestly, the best move is to just find a hobby—anything, really, as long as it’s actually useful. Or, if you're feeling desperate, just ask a moderator to ban you for a few days. If nobody bites, try posting twice in the politics section; you'll inevitably annoy someone, and then you can just tell them exactly what you need. Boom, ban achieved.
Taylor Campbell4 started a thread just like this one maybe two or three months ago. I can't remember how it ended up.
By the way, if you want to see how much someone actually uses this forum, just look at their daily post count:
@briskgull27—you've got 60. Isn't that actually a bit overkill?
And if you check out the top 10 or 20 most active users on the site, their average sits right around 30.

I won't go unless it's essential.😁 Personally, if I feel like I'm chronically lacking Vitamin D, I'll make an effort to step outside for some sunlight—maybe walk instead of driving—just to stay healthy enough to keep working. Since I'm living a bit far from my usual circle, I tend to compensate by spending more time on this forum, 😁 though I know that's not ideal. I've become a bit too reliant on these threads. I'm trying to break the habit by focusing on what actually matters—finding the truth in things. Obviously, I wouldn't cancel plans with a close friend just to browse online, but sometimes I find myself scrolling for way too long when I really should be getting things done.

Pro tip: If you’re feeling stuck, just find someone else and try to mimic their moves 😁
Just kidding. Honestly, sometimes you have to step away from what you're doing entirely just to realize what actually matters. You need to force yourself to pause—it’s often when you finally slow down, soak in some outside perspective, and detach from the grind that the right idea actually hits you. 😉
I tend to observe things for a bit—and you should too—before deciding how to act. I try to pay attention to how it feels when I spend way too much time scrolling through forums (usually just leaves me feeling empty) versus when I actually accomplish something useful. At the end of the day, anyone can choose to be productive.

I'm glad you're joking, because most of the people I hang out with are online, though they do jump into some video games every now and then...
