It can go up to $667. Your first installment hits on the next billing cycle. So, if you pick this up tomorrow, you won't see the charge until July 9th.

So, wait—it doesn't hit ten days after the purchase?
I bought something through my American Express before and I'm pretty sure the first installment showed up on my statement about 10 days later...

It all depends on how the account settles. Just wait until it's fully set up before you pull the trigger on the purchase. That way, your first installment won't hit your statement for another month.

The student American Express statement always closes on the 2nd of the month, and then the payment hits about seven days later—so usually by the 9th. If that falls on a Sunday or a holiday, it just rolls over to the next business day.🙂

Alright folks, I’ve got a few things on my mind. Can I actually get rid of my overdraft—even the authorized kind? When I was picking up my card, the lady at Chase told me to just leave it active since I was in a rush, so I did. Honestly, I didn't even want an American Express, but she insisted it would be cheaper and more cost-effective in the long run. If I had more time, I probably would have just cut the damn thing up right there to avoid the headache, but whatever.

Second issue—I'm dealing with a bit of a situation regarding school. I'm supposed to enroll for my senior thesis this fall, which means I won't technically be a full-time student for about a month while the enrollment period settles. Do I need to report this or officially de-register? And what happens if I just put my status on hold—how does that process actually work?

Just shut down all the extra services and keep only the student account if it's free. Or honestly, if you don't even need the account, just close everything down. 😉

I need a checking account for my freelance gigs and a separate one for my regular paycheck—just nothing with an overdraft fee. I haven't even activated my Chase debit card yet; it’s just sitting there in the envelope.

You can't change that option here. This is just the budget version, so don't bother trying to use any of that stuff (whatever you're trying to close).

How long am I gonna be stuck waiting for that overdraft protection to actually kick in on my checking account? I’m planning on heading down to the bank to sign all the paperwork for that student package, but I need to know how long until the funds are actually available if things get tight.

I signed up for an Index Plus student package last week
I have a few questions:
1. I received my agreement for the checking and savings accounts, but I don't see anything explicitly labeled as a "package," which is a bit confusing.
2. I’ll be getting an American Express card (limit $667) for installment purchases. Does anyone know what the maximum number of installments is, or if there's an online list of retailers that accept this card for installment plans?
3. The pricing for the online and mobile banking services is also a bit unclear. The brochure for the digital services says the fee is $3.25, but the student package brochure lists it as 4.98??!!!?
Am I going to be paying $4.75 or just 4.98? 🤷

1. You don't actually sign up for a "package." It’s just a collection of services you keep active—like your checking, savings, high-speed internet, and American accounts.
2. You can stretch purchases out over up to 12 monthly installments depending on where you shop, but your total purchase can't go over $667. That’s the absolute ceiling for how much debt you can take on. You can find the full legal breakdown on the JPMorgan Chase website.
3. Don't sweat the prices in the brochure; those aren't tailored to you. Your specific rate is $1.75, and that’s what gets pulled at the end of every month, provided all your services from the bundle stay active.

When it comes to installment plans, the list they provide on the JPMorgan Chase website is pretty outdated. Honestly, there's bound to be plenty of major retailers out there that don't even offer financing. You really need to double-check at the register before you commit to see if they allow installments and what their terms are—whether it's 3 months or up to 12.

Thanks for the response 😉

Is it possible to make installment purchases using a Visa debit card linked to a checking account? A teller at my local Chase branch mentioned something about it
. Also, I was wondering if any of the cards in a typical student banking package allow for cash advances that can be paid back in installments? For instance, if I withdraw $333, could I pay it back over five months? Or is it strictly limited to installment purchases
? Oh, and one more thing—how many days does it usually take for the cards to arrive 😉?

The student package includes an overdraft limit of up to $333, which you can utilize if needed. Regarding the Visa, you can also set up installment plans for purchases up to $333. As for delivery, it typically takes about 7 to 10 business days for the cards to be processed and sent out.

I have just one thing on my mind. I’m planning on signing up for that specific package, but since I just started college, I’m a little worried they might turn me down because of my student status..
I’m also curious about how the installments work. I'm looking at picking up something worth roughly $600 and spreading it over 10 monthly payments. I guess I was wondering if I need to have a certain amount of cash sitting in my account right away, or would it be okay to just have maybe 10-$6.75 available on my card? This is through JPMorgan Chase, and they offer a limit of up to $667.
