To pick up the package, you’ll need to provide official proof of enrollment from your university or just show your student ID.
If you're looking to buy on an installment plan using American Express, you don't need the cash upfront, but you'll need enough in your checking account to cover those monthly payments when they hit. It doesn't have to be there beforehand, but it needs to be there on the actual due date. Just keep in mind that American Express will pull from your approved overdraft $333 if things happen to get tight and you find yourself short on funds.

Gotcha. Well, I actually have this enrollment agreement I got when I signed up that basically confirms I'm a full-time student...
That's exactly what I was wondering! I'm planning to make the purchase around August 10th. So, if the first payment isn't due until next month—meaning by September 10th—I just need to make sure I have at least the amount of that single installment in my account by then, right?

Sorry for the double post! I was just wondering when my card might actually show up. I put the application in this past Monday, and they told me it would take about 7 to 8 days... so, I guess that means it should arrive around Tuesday? Maybe?

American Express is being delivered straight to my house. I'm not sure what the exact ETA is, so give them a call and double-check. As for the other cards, they’ll be sent to the local branch, but you'll need to wait for the PIN to arrive at your home address first.

Oh, right! She did mention something along those lines—that I'd probably get the PIN in a few days and then receive the actual cards shortly after. I guess I'll give them a ring soon just to see what's going on...

So, I just picked up my student American Express from Chase today.

I’ve been wondering... can I actually pull those $667 out as cash, like at a branch or an ATM?
Or is this strictly for buying stuff on a payment plan?

Look, I know I'm already sitting on a $333 deficit in my checking account.

But is it possible to get a separate cash advance through the Amex—say, $1,000 or maybe even $667?

The thing is, I need to pick something up, but the place only takes cash. The item is $567, and right now, I am completely broke...

Well, look, you won't be able to pull any cash out—it’s strictly for buying items at the register with your card. There is absolutely no way to get cash using a student American Express

Can I pick up two different items on an American Express installment plan at the same time?
Right now, I'm already paying off one—I've got five out of six months cleared—and I'm looking to grab something else right now.

You can technically do up to three installment payments, so it’s definitely an option. The only catch is you need to have enough "breathing room" left under your $667 limit on your student American Express.

Just a heads-up though, all six of those installments count toward that total $667 until you've paid the whole thing off.

So, wait... you're telling me I can't use my checking account OR an American Express to pay this off in installments if the total amount ends up being more than $667?

Does anyone happen to know what the spending limit is when using a student checking account for installment plans? Please, if anybody has the scoop, let me know—it’s kind of an urgent situation for me!

Does the debit card from this PayPal bundle actually work?

If you’ve upgraded to the new Inspire card, you should be good to go. The old Maestro ones won't work anymore, though you can swap them out for a Visa at no extra cost.

Hey everyone, quick question for you all. I’ve got a few months left before I graduate, and right now I’ve already got my checking, savings, and online banking set up through my student account, plus I'm working. Is it possible to head down to Chase and just add mBanking to what I’ve already got with Chase Mobile (where I currently pay $2.75) so that I can bundle both services together for $1.75? I don't really care about the checking side since there aren't any maintenance fees anyway, and I don't need an American Express card unless they throw it in for free. Basically, I just want to take advantage of the lower rates for mBanking and Chase Mobile while I still have my student status, and then once I graduate, let everything just sit there so I'm only paying $1.75.

Are you 100% sure about that? I keep seeing people on forums saying PayPal won't touch a standard checking account—only specific ones. Of course, when you ask at Chase, they just shrug their shoulders and give you some "it should work" nonsense. I'm not about to go through the hassle of opening an account if it's just gonna be a gamble...

I've got my PayPal linked through a Visa Electron tied to my checking account. Not sure about the specifics regarding current accounts, but if Chase rejects you, opening a standard checking account should be pretty straightforward.🤷

Same here—my checking is tied to PayPal and it works fine if you're just buying stuff, but I actually need it for selling. I've already pulled in about 10 $0.00 this year from my jewelry hobby, and the IRS tracks checking accounts way closer than they do small-time checking stuff. So, for me, it’s huge that I can move money from PayPal straight to my Visa debit from my checking. 🙂

I've got that Chase Inspiration card linked directly to my checking account and it works fine with PayPal, so don't sweat it. 😉

I am certain. I generally don't make claims about things I don't actually understand.
